With OBS, your computer, the video files and a reliable internet connection must stay available; a cloud service is an alternative if you do not want a computer running at home. Before going live, confirm your channel is eligible, clear the rights to every video and audio track, test the preview, and plan for YouTube’s 12-hour archive limit.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel that is verified, at least 16 years old for the person streaming, and not restricted from livestreaming in the previous 90 days. YouTube says first-time livestream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your planned launch. See YouTube’s livestreaming setup guidance and encoder streaming guidance.
- One or more recordings you have the right to broadcast, including the footage and any music, ambient audio or other sound.
- Either a computer that can run OBS continuously, or a cloud service designed to play prerecorded video as a livestream.
- A plan for checking the live preview, monitoring the broadcast and keeping a separate recording if you need a reliable replay.
This is prerecorded footage delivered as a livestream, not a live camera session. You can show Tamil study sessions, desk shots, writing, breaks or other material in the order you choose, but the format does not remove YouTube’s rules for live content or monetization.
Prepare your recordings and playlist
Check footage and audio rights
Use only footage and audio that you own or have permission to broadcast on YouTube. YouTube’s terms place responsibility for the necessary rights on the creator, including music licensing rights. A song that is allowed for personal listening, or a clip that is available online, is not automatically cleared for a continuous public livestream.
Decide whether the stream will include music, room sound or silence. Check the entire recording, including background audio and transitions, rather than only the opening. Keep records of licenses or permissions in case a rights holder questions the stream.

Arrange the videos for continuous playback
Put the recordings in the intended order and decide what viewers will see when the playlist reaches its end. OBS can replay one file with its Media Source loop setting, or you can use its VLC Video source for a playlist. OBS notes that VLC must be installed for the VLC source; playlist looping is on by default. See the OBS Media Sources guide.
Check that each file plays correctly in full, that its sound level is usable, and that the transition from the final item back to the first will not leave an unintended blank or abrupt audio change.

Create the YouTube livestream
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room.
- Create a new livestream or schedule one. Set its title, audience and other details in YouTube Studio, then check the visibility and scheduled start time before publishing.
- Choose the encoder connection details shown for the stream. YouTube provides a stream URL and stream key for the encoder; OBS needs these to send video to the correct livestream. You can reuse stream settings where YouTube offers that option. Consult YouTube’s encoder streaming instructions for the current interface.
- Keep the stream key private. Treat it like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not show it in a screen recording, public post or screenshot.
Loop prerecorded video in OBS
- Install and open OBS Studio on the computer that will host the broadcast.
- In the scene where the study footage should appear, add a Media Source and select the local recording file.
- Enable Loop in the Media Source properties if you want that file to restart when playback ends. For a sequence of files, add a VLC Video source, select the playlist files and check the playlist behavior; VLC must be installed for this source.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Select YouTube as the service and enter the stream key and server details provided by YouTube. If OBS presents a server field, use the stream URL from the Live Control Room.
- Check the video and audio in the OBS preview. Start the encoder only when you are ready for YouTube’s Live Control Room to receive the feed, then confirm the preview there before starting or publishing the livestream.
The precise controls and labels can change between OBS and YouTube releases. If the current YouTube Studio screen differs, follow the connection details shown in that Live Control Room rather than reusing an old key or server address from an unrelated stream.
Choose where the stream runs

A local setup avoids paying for a cloud service if you already have a suitable computer, but it ties the stream to that machine, its power and its connection. Cloud hosting avoids keeping a computer at home on for playback. For either approach, verify the provider’s current terms and features before relying on it.

Test the feed and monitor the broadcast
- Use YouTube’s test-stream and preview workflow before your public launch. Confirm the correct recording appears on the watch page and on a mobile device. YouTube’s stream monitoring guidance explains how to check stream health.
- Listen for audio problems and watch for a frozen image, black screen or unintended gap at the end of a file. Check the playlist’s restart behavior rather than assuming the loop is working.
- During a local OBS stream, make sure the computer stays powered and connected. Verify that the local archive recording, if enabled, is growing and that you have disk space for the planned duration.
- Keep a local copy of the original recordings and, when a dependable replay matters, a separate local archive. Do not rely on a single uninterrupted YouTube broadcast for a complete replay.
Plan around YouTube’s archive limit
YouTube says livestreams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. A 24/7 broadcast therefore may not produce one complete replay. If a usable archive matters, schedule shorter sessions and record locally; verify YouTube’s current archiving guidance before choosing a schedule.

Copyright, policy and monetization
Live copyright checks can interrupt the stream
YouTube scans livestreams for third-party content. If it identifies a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you; if the material remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the broadcast. Even if you have licensed third-party content, the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Read YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance and resolve permissions before going live.
A livestream is not automatically eligible for monetization
YouTube applies its monetization policies to livestreams, including its rules on reused content and content it calls “inauthentic.” Whether a channel’s recordings qualify depends on the content and YouTube’s channel review; repeating a playlist does not guarantee monetization. Check YouTube’s channel monetization policies and avoid promising viewers or collaborators a revenue outcome.

Troubleshooting common problems
- You cannot start a livestream: Check that the channel is verified, the person streaming meets YouTube’s age requirement, and the channel has no live-stream restriction from the previous 90 days. If livestreaming was just enabled, activation may take up to 24 hours.
- YouTube receives no video: Confirm OBS is sending to the correct YouTube stream URL and key, and that the encoder is started for the intended stream in Live Control Room. If in doubt, create or select the correct event and copy its current connection details.
- The file stops instead of repeating: Open the Media Source properties and confirm Loop is enabled. For a playlist source, confirm VLC is installed and review the playlist’s loop setting.
- The stream goes offline when you leave: A local OBS stream depends on the host computer and connection staying available. Prevent sleep or shutdown and keep the network connected, or use a cloud-hosted playback option.
- The stream is replaced, interrupted or terminated: Review YouTube’s copyright notice and identify the matched material. Remove or replace uncleared content; if you have a license, check whether the rights owner must allowlist your channel in Content ID.
- The livestream has no complete replay: A broadcast longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Break the schedule into shorter sessions and make a local recording if you need a dependable archive.
Costs and practical trade-offs
For local OBS streaming, you may already own a suitable computer; no current official minimum computer specification or connection speed that will suit every recording and setup has been published. Account for power and internet costs if the machine must run continuously. A cloud service can remove the need to host playback on your own computer, but its price and reliability depend on the provider and plan; check current terms rather than assuming they match another service.
