How to Run a 24/7 Yoga Nidra YouTube Stream on an Indian VPS

A practical guide to looping rights-cleared yoga nidra media through FFmpeg on a Linux VPS, sending it to YouTube over RTMPS, and planning around cost, failures and archives.

You can run a prerecorded yoga nidra stream from a Linux VPS by using FFmpeg to loop rights-cleared media and send it to YouTube over RTMPS, then configuring a service manager such as systemd to restart FFmpeg after a failure. A low-cost VPS is only suitable if its sustained CPU allowance, outbound data, region and terms support continuous encoding; price alone does not establish that. Test the stream and watch YouTube’s stream health before relying on it.

What you need before you start

  • A YouTube channel verified for live streaming, with no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time live enablement can take up to 24 hours, so enable it in advance. YouTube’s live-streaming tips cover channel readiness.
  • A Linux VPS whose provider permits sustained video encoding and offers enough outbound transfer for continuous streaming.
  • Local copies of the yoga nidra video and audio, with rights to use every component worldwide, including voice, music, ambience, artwork and footage.
  • FFmpeg with the required input and output support, an RTMPS endpoint and stream key from YouTube Live Control Room, and a way to monitor the process and stream health.

The signal path is media files → FFmpeg loop and encoder → RTMPS over TLS → YouTube Live. A nearly static image still requires a continuous video stream; low motion does not prove that a low-specification virtual machine can encode it reliably.

Choose a VPS by its full operating cost, not its advertised entry price

No specific Indian VPS plan can be recommended here: a current plan-level comparison establishing sustained encoding capacity and all-in cost is unavailable. Check the provider’s current terms and quote before buying.

  • Region: confirm that an India data-centre location is actually available on the plan you intend to use. An India-based channel does not require an India-based server, but location may affect latency and your preference for hosting region.
  • CPU policy: ask whether the plan permits sustained CPU use and whether resources are shared, capped or throttled. Encoding load depends on the media, output settings and encoder; ingest bitrate alone cannot determine the CPU size you need.
  • Data transfer: calculate expected monthly outbound traffic from the chosen bitrate, then compare it with the included quota, overage rate and any traffic restrictions. At 8 Mbps, a continuously transmitted stream sends roughly 86.4 GB per day before protocol overhead; actual usage varies with bitrate and time online.
  • All-in bill: check storage, IPv4 or address charges, taxes, billing currency, renewal pricing, cancellation terms and support. Include any transfer overage, not just the advertised VPS charge.
  • Workload terms: verify that continuous FFmpeg streaming is allowed. A provider may impose acceptable-use or abuse limits even when the instance has sufficient nominal CPU and bandwidth.

For an initial low-motion visual, 720p30 is a reasonable test target, not a promise that any inexpensive VM can sustain it. YouTube lists 8 Mbps as its recommended H.264 bitrate for 720p30. Use the current encoder settings guidance for the stream’s resolution, frame rate and codec; test a lower bitrate only if quality and YouTube’s health indicators remain acceptable.

Prepare media and confirm your YouTube stream settings

Use media you have rights to stream

YouTube’s livestream terms require the necessary worldwide rights to exploit live content, including music rights. Use original or appropriately licensed yoga nidra narration, music, ambience, visuals and artwork, and retain the relevant license records. A license to play a track privately or in a local video does not by itself establish permission for a public livestream.

Enable and configure YouTube Live

  1. Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or select the scheduled live stream. Confirm that the channel is enabled for live streaming before the planned start.
  2. In the stream settings, expose and copy the RTMPS server URL and its associated stream key. Use the values shown for that stream rather than an endpoint copied from an unrelated guide.
  3. Keep the stream key secret, as you would a password. Do not commit it to a public repository or expose it in a public script, screenshot or log. Restrict access to the file or secret store used by the service.
  4. Set the video resolution, frame rate and encoding settings in FFmpeg to match the stream configuration. YouTube supports RTMP/RTMPS ingest and lists H.264, H.265 or AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds) in its encoder guidance.

For H.264 at 720p30, YouTube lists 3 Mbps as the minimum and 8 Mbps as the recommended bitrate. Those are YouTube’s published encoder settings, not a guarantee of acceptable picture quality for every source or an estimate of VPS CPU needs. YouTube advises testing with audio and movement similar to the intended stream and monitoring stream health.

Run FFmpeg continuously from the VPS

Install FFmpeg using the package source supported by your Linux distribution, then test the media and network path interactively before configuring automatic startup. The exact FFmpeg command depends on your input files, codecs, chosen output and FFmpeg build, so there is no safe universal command to paste in place of those decisions.

  1. Inspect your media: use FFmpeg’s probing tools to confirm video dimensions, frame rate, audio stream and codecs. Check that the files play through their full duration and that the audio does not clip or contain unexpected silence.
  2. Choose a loop strategy: configure FFmpeg to repeat the prepared video or playlist without an unintended gap. Confirm how the selected looping method handles end-of-file and audio/video duration differences. If looping separate audio and video inputs, test synchronization across multiple loops.
  3. Configure the encoder: choose a YouTube-compatible video and audio codec, set a constant bitrate suitable for the selected resolution and frame rate, and set a two-second keyframe interval (never more than four seconds). For a static or softly animated 720p30 H.264 test, use YouTube’s published values as a starting point, then assess the actual output.
  4. Send to the endpoint: provide the exact RTMPS URL and stream key from Live Control Room through a protected configuration method. Ensure the URL uses rtmps, not rtmp, when YouTube supplies RTMPS.
  5. Run a live test: start FFmpeg, confirm that YouTube receives the feed, then check audio, image, synchronization and stream-health warnings. Test with representative audio and movement; do not treat a successful process start as proof the broadcast is healthy.

Google’s RTMPS ingestion guidance describes RTMPS as RTMP tunneled through SSL/TLS and specifies port 443. Its implementation guidance also requires correct server hostname/SNI authentication. The RTMPS URL supplied by YouTube should be authoritative for the stream.

Use a service manager for unattended operation

On a systemd-based Linux distribution, a service unit can start FFmpeg at boot and restart it after a process failure. This is a deployment pattern, not a YouTube requirement. Use a dedicated, least-privilege service account; restrict permissions on any file containing the stream key; and send logs to journald or another managed logging system with retention or rotation.

A policy such as Restart=always can restart a crashed process, but it does not ensure YouTube is reachable, the media is valid, the key is current, the provider has not throttled the VM, or recovery from every fault. Add an external check or alert that can distinguish “FFmpeg process exists” from “YouTube is receiving a healthy stream.” Review logs and test recovery deliberately before depending on unattended operation.

Decide between one continuous broadcast and shorter sessions

A single broadcast is simpler for uninterrupted looping, but YouTube does not guarantee an archive for very long streams. Its archive guidance says a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube’s DVR guidance also notes that rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours.

Approach Operational trade-off Archive and rewind implication
One continuous 24/7 broadcast One ongoing encoder session is straightforward to loop, but a long-running process and connection need monitoring and recovery. Beyond 12 hours, YouTube may not capture the stream at all; DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable.
Scheduled sessions shorter than 12 hours Requires a schedule and planned restarts or session changes, but creates natural points to inspect the feed. Streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, though an archive should still be checked rather than assumed.

If keeping a replay or rewind is important, use shorter sessions and retain a local recording where appropriate. Check YouTube’s current archive and DVR behavior before designing the schedule around a particular outcome.

Troubleshoot common failures

YouTube does not receive the stream

  • Check the URL and scheme: compare the RTMPS endpoint character for character with Live Control Room; confirm the URL uses rtmps when provided.
  • Check port and TLS: RTMPS uses port 443. Confirm outbound traffic is not blocked by the VM firewall or provider and that FFmpeg supports RTMPS.
  • Check hostname and SNI: resolve certificate or hostname errors against Google’s RTMPS requirements before changing encoding settings.
  • Check the key: copy the stream key associated with the selected broadcast, and replace it if it was reset or exposed.

The stream connects but has warnings, poor quality or missing audio

  • Compare codec, frame rate, resolution, bitrate and keyframe interval with YouTube’s current encoder guidance.
  • Check YouTube’s stream-health messages and server logs while the feed is live; validate the actual audio and motion rather than assuming a mostly static meditation image is an adequate test.
  • Inspect source files for unsupported or unexpected codecs, mismatched durations, silent tracks, clipping or synchronization drift.
  • If quality or stability fails, test a lower resolution or bitrate and check VPS CPU, throttling and outbound transfer. Do not infer that changing bitrate will fix a hostname, key or TLS error.

FFmpeg stops, restarts repeatedly or the feed goes offline

  • Review the service logs for input-file paths, permission errors, disk exhaustion, encoder errors and connection failures.
  • Verify the service account can read the media and secret files but has no unnecessary privileges.
  • Check available storage, provider throttling and transfer limits; a process restart policy cannot restore a VM that has run out of space or been suspended.
  • Use an alert based on YouTube receiving a healthy stream, not only on whether systemd reports the service as active.

Or let it run in the cloud
