You can run a continuous YouTube live channel from a Windows PC by sending an encoder feed—such as one made with OBS—to YouTube Live Control Room. First make sure the channel is eligible; then configure and test the encoder, confirm that your sustained upload speed has enough headroom, and plan for PC, power, network and archive failures. A 24/7 schedule is an operating goal, not a guarantee that a home PC and connection will never drop.
Check that your YouTube channel can livestream
Before setting up the PC, confirm that live streaming is available on the channel you intend to use. YouTube’s published prerequisites include a verified channel, no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and a creator who is at least 16. Review the channel’s notices and status in YouTube Studio before planning a continuous schedule. See YouTube’s live-streaming prerequisites and its guidance on avoiding live-streaming restrictions.
Technical setup does not grant permission to stream particular material. Copyright matches or strikes and Community Guidelines issues can lead to removal or restrictions. YouTube also says a restricted creator cannot use another channel to get around a restriction. That matters especially for channels built around repeated gameplay, music, or other looped video: repetition by itself does not make material authorized.
What you need for a continuous PC stream
A Windows PC that can sustain your chosen scene
OBS Project lists Windows 10 or Windows 11 and a DirectX 10.1-compatible graphics adapter among its Windows requirements. Those are compatibility requirements, not a promise that a particular PC can stream reliably at a chosen resolution and frame rate. OBS’s documentation, dated 2021-08-25, states: “Having a compatible system does not guarantee that it is capable of streaming or recording using OBS Studio.” Encoding load changes with the encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. Use the OBS system requirements as a floor, then test the actual PC and scene you plan to use.

A stable upload connection
Plan around measured upload capacity at the streaming location, not the advertised download speed. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom above the total stream bitrate. For example, if the total outgoing stream bitrate is B, plan for at least 1.2 × B of available upload capacity under the conditions when you stream. If you send both a primary and a backup feed, include both bitrates in the total. Shared household use and changing network conditions can reduce what is available, so a speed test is a check rather than a guarantee. Where practical, connect the PC by Ethernet and test from the same connection and time period you expect to stream. An Ethernet cable is only useful if the PC and router support a wired connection; it cannot prevent an ISP outage or a power cut. The sources cited here do not establish a universal Indian ISP, backup-data plan, or UPS size for every city and setup.

Storage and a recovery plan
Decide whether the PC will record locally while it streams, how you will check that recordings are usable, and how you will recover after OBS, Windows, the router, or power stops the feed. Local recording consumes disk space; plan file rotation and backups before leaving it unattended. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive backup because automatic archiving is described for streams under 12 hours. A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A planned restart cadence may help meet your archive needs, but the cited guidance does not establish a restart interval that guarantees capture or uninterrupted playback. Set up OBS and connect it to YouTube
- Install OBS Studio from its official project source. Open OBS and use the Auto Configuration Wizard as a starting point. It can help select initial settings, but its result is not proof that the PC can sustain an unattended 24/7 stream.
- Choose what the channel will show. Build the scene around the actual source—such as gameplay, graphics, or a permitted prerecorded loop—and decide how audio will work. Check that the content is authorized and compliant before scheduling it. Test the complete scene rather than an empty OBS canvas.
- Create or manage the broadcast in YouTube Studio. Open Live Control Room and create or select the stream. Choose or create a stream key, then copy the stream URL and key into OBS’s stream settings. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain the stream URL/key workflow. Treat the key like a credential: anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to the stream.
- Set the video and encoder options. Select a resolution and frame rate that the PC can encode continuously and the connection can carry with headroom. YouTube’s encoder reference recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and RTMPS; it says not to exceed a four-second keyframe interval. Use the bitrate guidance for the codec and output format you select rather than copying a number intended for a different resolution or frame rate. - Start the encoder and wait for YouTube’s preview. Check the incoming image and sound in Live Control Room before making the stream public or starting a scheduled broadcast. Confirm that the stream health indicators do not show a problem, and verify that the intended channel and audience settings are correct.
- Run an unlisted test before relying on the setup. Check picture, audio levels, sync, stream health, access from the channel or watch page, and playback on a phone. If you record locally, confirm that the file grows while streaming and plays correctly. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring rather than assuming that a successful start means a reliable long-running feed; see YouTube’s computer livestream tips.
Choose settings by testing the real workload
Resolution, frame rate, and encoder load
There is no single PC specification that guarantees a 24/7 stream. Start with an output your PC can sustain while running the game, capture, overlays, and audio processing used in the real channel. Higher resolutions and frame rates increase encoding and upload demands. Watch OBS and YouTube’s stream health during a representative test, including busy gameplay or the most complex scene, then adjust quality if frames are missed or the connection is unstable.

Bitrate and upload headroom
Choose a bitrate that fits the codec, resolution, and frame rate in YouTube’s encoder reference, then check the total outgoing bitrate against sustained upload capacity. Preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. If using backup ingestion, count the primary and backup feeds together. A connection that passes a short speed test can still fluctuate or become congested during a long stream, so monitor the live test under ordinary household network use as well.
Keyframes and transport
Use CBR and RTMPS as recommended in YouTube’s encoder guidance. Set keyframes every two seconds; do not exceed four seconds. These settings help the encoder feed align with YouTube’s published recommendations, but they do not compensate for insufficient upload bandwidth, overloaded hardware, or an unstable connection.

Plan how the channel recovers from interruptions
A 24/7 PC stream has several possible failure points: OBS can close, Windows can restart, the PC can lose power, the router or ISP can disconnect, and the encoder can keep running while its output is no longer healthy. Decide who or what will notice the interruption and what the next action is. For a self-managed setup, that may mean checking Live Control Room and OBS regularly, restarting the encoder when necessary, and verifying the feed after a network or power recovery. The official sources do not establish a universal UPS size or ISP backup solution for an Indian home; those depend on the PC’s power draw, local outage pattern, network availability, and budget.
Keep archive planning separate from channel continuity. A live feed can be back online while a local recording is missing or a YouTube archive has not been captured. Check local files and backups, and plan around YouTube’s under-12-hour automatic archive behavior rather than assuming one unbroken, day-long broadcast will produce a complete replay.

Check these issues before calling the stream stable
- YouTube does not show an incoming preview: confirm OBS is using the intended stream URL and current key, start the encoder, and check the stream status in Live Control Room.
- The preview buffers or stream health degrades: check sustained upload capacity and network use, preserve the recommended 20% headroom, and reduce bitrate or output demands if the actual connection cannot support them.
- Video stutters or frames are missed: test the full scene and gameplay workload, not just a static screen. Reduce resolution, frame rate, or scene complexity if the PC cannot sustain encoding; OBS compatibility requirements alone do not guarantee performance.
- Audio is absent, duplicated, or out of sync: inspect the audio sources and levels in the OBS scene, then verify the result in the YouTube preview and in the unlisted playback test.
- The replay is missing or incomplete: check whether the broadcast exceeded 12 hours, and inspect the local recording and backup. YouTube says a stream over 12 hours may not be captured in its automatic archive.
- The stream stops after a restart or outage: determine whether Windows, OBS, the router, or power interrupted the feed, then restart and verify the encoder and preview. A recovery procedure needs an actual person or system to detect and respond to the interruption.
- YouTube removes the stream or restricts access: review the account notice and applicable copyright or Community Guidelines issue. Changing keys or trying another channel does not make restricted content permissible or allow a creator to evade a restriction.
