Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →To keep your own educational animations live on YouTube around the clock, send them through YouTube Studio’s encoder workflow: enable live streaming, create or schedule a broadcast, copy its stream URL and key into an encoder, then check the preview and start the feed. Plan around YouTube’s archive limit: broadcasts over 12 hours may not be captured, so use shorter segments and local recordings if preserving replays matters. A continuous stream also needs a tested way to recover from interruptions and an accurate “made for kids” audience setting.
Before you start: eligibility, content, and rights
Enable live streaming in advance
Your channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your planned launch. YouTube says the person livestreaming must be at least 16 and describes additional safeguards for younger participants. Check YouTube’s current encoder setup guidance for the applicable account requirements.
Decide whether the animations are made for kids
If the animations are directed to children, set the audience accurately in YouTube Studio. YouTube identifies child-oriented characters, activities, games, songs, and stories as factors that may indicate content is made for kids; the actual designation depends on the content and intended audience. See YouTube’s audience-setting guidance and its factors for determining whether content is made for kids. YouTube warns that an incorrect setting may have consequences and notes that its guidance is not legal advice.
Clear every element for live use and replay
Make sure you have the rights needed for the animation, music, voice performances, fonts, and other incorporated assets—not only to broadcast them, but also to keep any resulting archive in the territories where it will be available. YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to hold necessary rights for live and archived content and to follow applicable laws and Community Guidelines. A licence that covers a video upload does not necessarily establish permission for a livestream or its archive.

Choose an encoder and prepare the feed
YouTube accepts encoder software running on a computer as well as standalone hardware encoders. The platform documentation establishes these broad options, not that a particular computer, encoder model, or configuration will operate unattended for days. Choose equipment you can test and monitor, and check the manufacturer’s sustained-operation and compatibility documentation before relying on dedicated hardware.
| Option | What it means | What to verify for 24/7 use |
|---|---|---|
| Software encoder | An encoder application sends the feed from a computer. | That the computer and encoder can run continuously, recover from faults, and record locally if needed. YouTube does not publish a universal reliability comparison for software setups. |
| Standalone hardware encoder | Dedicated hardware sends the feed without using a general-purpose computer for encoding. | That the specific model supports your planned format and sustained operation, plus any local recording and recovery features you require. YouTube’s general guidance does not establish reliability for individual models. |
Use conservative, supported encoder settings
YouTube recommends RTMPS and constant bitrate encoding. Its encoder guidance specifies a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. It lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video encoding support for RTMP/RTMPS, with AAC or MP3 audio. Choose resolution and bitrate according to your stable upload capacity and the encoder’s supported settings; test the actual animation, motion, and audio rather than assuming a setting will work because it is listed. The recommended values and format details are in YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guide.

Create the YouTube stream and connect the encoder
- Open YouTube Studio: Select Create → Go Live. Create a stream or schedule one in Live Control Room. Set its title, visibility, and audience designation accurately.
- Copy the connection details: In the stream settings, copy the stream URL and stream key shown by YouTube. Enter them in the encoder’s server and stream-key fields. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your broadcast. Do not publish it or include it in a public screenshot.
- Start the encoder and check the preview: Send the feed, then confirm that Live Control Room receives it and that the preview has the expected picture and sound. YouTube says a watch page is created once the encoder starts sending content.
- Go live: For a scheduled event, check the preview and use Live Control Room to start the broadcast. Confirm the public watch page behaves as intended before leaving the system running.
For the current screen-by-screen workflow, see YouTube’s instructions for creating a live stream with an encoder.
Design the schedule around YouTube’s archive limit
A nonstop viewer experience and a dependable replay archive are separate goals. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams over 12 hours may not be captured at all. If an archive matters, do not plan on one uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast as your only recording. YouTube’s archive guidance also recommends keeping a local backup.

Use shorter broadcasts when replays matter
Schedule or restart broadcasts before they reach 12 hours, and retain local recordings. The segment boundary requires planning: test how the next broadcast begins, including the watch page and any gap viewers might encounter. The available YouTube guidance does not establish a universal restart tool or guarantee a seamless, gap-free handoff. Do not promise unattended continuity until the specific encoder and any automation have been tested.
Decide how much continuity you need
- One long broadcast: It avoids planned segment transitions, but a stream over 12 hours may not be captured as a YouTube archive. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable after 12 hours; consult YouTube’s DVR guidance.
- Shorter broadcasts plus local recordings: This better supports replay preservation, but adds scheduling, recording, and handoff work. Test each transition before depending on it.
Test and monitor before leaving the stream unattended
Before launch, run a private or unlisted test using the same kind of animation, movement, and audio you expect in production. YouTube recommends setting up encoders at least two hours ahead and starting them at least 15 minutes before a scheduled event. Its live-streaming tips also recommend checking stream health and testing backup-encoder failover if you have one.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
- Verify that the preview and watch page show the intended video and sound.
- Check the encoder and YouTube stream-health indicators for problems before going public.
- If recording locally, confirm that the recording file is growing and can be played back.
- If you have a backup encoder, deliberately test the failover rather than assuming it will work.
- For long-running broadcasts, arrange an operator or a tested automation path that can respond to a stalled feed, lost connection, or encoder failure.
A stream key, scheduled event, or encoder setting alone does not ensure continuous operation. YouTube’s general documentation does not certify any setup to run unattended 24/7; the recovery plan must be verified with the actual hardware or software you use.

When a stream is set as made for kids, YouTube restricts data collection and disables a range of features. These include live chat, comments, notifications, personalized ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, memberships, merchandise and ticketing, cards and end screens, and some playback and saving features. YouTube says it does not serve personalized ads on kids’ content, though contextual ads may appear. Live ads are not guaranteed in every slot, and monetization remains subject to YouTube Partner Program eligibility and applicable policies. Review YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance and YouTube’s earning-money requirements.

Also consider whether a looped broadcast is substantively original rather than mass-produced or repetitive. In July 2025, TeamYouTube said its inauthentic-content clarification includes mass-produced or repetitive content and reiterated that the Partner Program requires original and authentic content. That post is an explanation, not a substitute for the operative rules; check YouTube’s current monetization policies before building a channel around repeated broadcasts.
Common problems and practical fixes
- You cannot start a live stream: Check that the channel is verified, has no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and has completed first-time activation. Activation may take up to 24 hours.
- YouTube receives no encoder feed: Recheck the stream URL and key in both YouTube Studio and the encoder. Confirm the encoder is actually sending, and regenerate or re-enter the key if it may have been exposed or mistyped.
- The preview or stream health shows problems: Check the upload connection and encoder settings, then reduce demands such as resolution or bitrate if the connection cannot sustain the feed. Test again with the same kind of motion and sound planned for the broadcast.
- The replay is missing after a long broadcast: A stream over 12 hours may not be captured. Use shorter segments and local recordings for future broadcasts; a missing archive cannot be made certain after the fact.
- The stream stops while nobody is monitoring: Review the encoder, computer or hardware, and network logs; test a backup or recovery path before the next unattended run. Do not assume YouTube will automatically restart your encoder.
- Chat, comments, or ad features are absent: If the content is made for kids, these restrictions may be expected. Check the audience designation and the applicable feature and monetization guidance rather than changing the setting inaccurately.
