There is no single India-wide rupee saving: it depends on how much power your local streaming setup draws and the marginal electricity rate on your bill. For a setup that draws an average of 100 W continuously, switching it off for 30 days avoids about 72 kWh. At an illustrative ₹3.55 per kWh, that is ₹255.60 in energy charges—not a typical-PC estimate or a complete bill calculation.
First, distinguish scheduled uploads from scheduled live streams
Scheduling an ordinary YouTube video makes that video public at a selected date, time and time zone. A playlist of published videos does not, by itself, create a continuous live channel. A scheduled live event can be promoted in advance, but it still needs an encoder sending a live feed when it begins.
If your audience can watch published videos rather than requiring a live channel, the local encoder can be off after you upload the files. If you need a continuous live presence, compare a locally running encoder with a hosted option: hosting may move the encoder’s electricity use off your premises, but adds service costs and other trade-offs.

Monthly energy (kWh) = average wall draw (W) × 24 × 30 ÷ 1,000 = average wall draw × 0.72.
Thus, each 1 W of average continuous draw uses 0.72 kWh in 30 days. To estimate the energy-charge saving, multiply the avoided kWh by the marginal rate that applies to your bill. For any schedule shorter than 24 hours a day, use:

Measure the load that will actually stop
Measure average power at the wall while streaming under representative conditions. A power-supply label states rated capacity, not the computer’s actual draw. A plug-in electricity usage monitor can help measure the input. Include a monitor, UPS, router, capture equipment or other devices only if those devices will also be switched off as part of the workflow change. Home internet plan charges generally do not vanish just because the local encoder is off, so do not count them as electricity savings.
Why your Indian electricity rate matters
India does not have one residential electricity rate. The Ministry of Power says state commissions determine retail tariffs, and applicable subsidies can affect what households pay. Check your current DISCOM schedule and your bill’s marginal charge rather than treating the illustration above as your rate.

Slabs and time of day can also matter. The official Lakshadweep domestic schedule for FY 2026–27 uses slab-based energy charges. A Ministry of Power explainer published in 2023 described designated solar-hour tariffs as 10–20% below normal and peak-hour tariffs as 10–20% above normal; actual hours and rates depend on local implementation and factors such as smart-meter status. Those ranges are not a guarantee of the rate on a particular household’s current bill.
As Minister R. K. Singh said in a Ministry of Power / Press Information Bureau release on 23 June 2023: “With awareness and effective utilization of ToD tariff mechanism, consumers can reduce their electricity bills.”

Choose a workflow that fits the channel, not just the bill
Compare what each option does for your audience as well as what it costs. YouTube advises creators to consider the monetary cost of producing a live stream alongside its viewership and revenue. A continuously live channel may provide value that scheduled uploads do not reproduce; conversely, if viewers can watch on demand, keeping a local encoder running may not be necessary.
