Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →To run a 24/7 YouTube music stream with VLC and OBS, use OBS Studio to play and encode your music, then send the feed to YouTube with the stream URL and stream key. Add a local playlist as an OBS VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. VLC handles playback; OBS sends the stream to YouTube. Before starting, confirm your channel can livestream and that you have permission to broadcast every track and visual.
Before you set up the stream
Check YouTube live-stream eligibility
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before your planned launch. See YouTube’s eligibility requirements and encoder setup instructions.
Clear the music and visuals for live broadcast
Use tracks and artwork you have permission to broadcast publicly on YouTube. Buying a song or being able to play it privately does not establish livestream rights. If you use licensed third-party music, confirm that the license covers a live broadcast and ask the rights holder about allowlisting your channel through Content ID. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content and may replace the image, interrupt the stream, or terminate it; even licensed material can be interrupted if the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel. A “copyright free” label alone is not proof that a track is safe; the license terms control. Read YouTube’s copyright guidance.
Prepare files and a visual scene
Keep the audio files and any artwork or video background accessible on the computer that will run OBS. Plan a scene that presents the visual you want viewers to see, such as static artwork or a video background. You are responsible for having the necessary rights to those visuals too.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Set up a looping music source in OBS
For a playlist of multiple files
- Install VLC. OBS’s VLC Video source depends on VLC; if you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
- Open OBS, create or select a scene, and add a VLC Video source.
- Add the local audio or video files in the order you want them to play.
- Inspect the source properties and make sure Loop Playlist is enabled. OBS documents this option as on by default, but check it rather than relying on the default.
- Choose whether to enable Shuffle Playlist. Leave it off if track order matters; use it if you prefer a randomized rotation.
OBS’s visibility behavior matters: the source can stop when it is not visible and restart when visible. Avoid hiding it if that setting would stop playback in your scene. See the OBS media-source documentation.
For one file instead of a playlist
Add OBS’s built-in Media Source, select one supported local file, and enable its Loop property, which is off by default. OBS lists MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV among its audio formats, and MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM among its video formats. A single file is simpler to configure; a VLC playlist lets you sequence multiple files.

Connect OBS to YouTube
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live to open the Live Control Room.
- Select or create the stream and copy its server URL and stream key.
- In OBS’s streaming settings, enter the YouTube server URL and stream key. Keep the key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Start streaming from OBS. Confirm that the feed appears in the Live Control Room preview and check the stream-health status.
- For a scheduled broadcast, wait for YouTube’s preview and then select Go live in the Live Control Room.
VLC’s playlist source only plays media inside OBS; it does not connect to YouTube by itself. YouTube’s documented workflow uses an encoder connected with the server URL and stream key.
Choose encoder settings and test the feed
Use settings suited to your connection and video
YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS guidance recommends H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted delivery. For stereo audio, its advanced guidance lists 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps. These are configuration recommendations, not a guarantee that your computer or network can sustain the stream.

Bitrate depends on codec, resolution, and frame rate. On YouTube’s current settings page accessed in 2026, the recommendation for H.264 at 1080p30 is 14 Mbps, with a 5 Mbps minimum. Do not treat those figures as universal: use the current YouTube table for your chosen resolution, frame rate, and codec. See YouTube’s encoder settings.
Test before going live and monitor while streaming
- Test with representative audio and video before the broadcast, preferably in a private or otherwise controlled setup.
- Listen for gaps, clipping, unwanted desktop audio, and abrupt playlist transitions.
- Check that the intended visual is present and that the YouTube preview and stream health look normal.
- Monitor stream health and review messages during the broadcast. YouTube recommends testing with audio and motion similar to the planned stream.
What “24/7” means with a local computer
A looping playlist sets the intended playback behavior; it does not guarantee uninterrupted service. OBS, the media files, computer power, and network connection all remain part of a local setup. A shutdown, software failure, missing file, or lost connection can interrupt the broadcast. This is a practical consequence of running the encoder locally, not a quantified uptime claim. Monitor the feed and have a plan to restart OBS and reconnect if it drops.

Do not assume a continuous stream lasting 24 hours or longer will have a complete automatic replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; it does not promise a complete automatic archive for a longer broadcast. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
