The encoder can be software on a computer or dedicated hardware. YouTube supports 24/7 encoder streams, but a stream that stays online is not necessarily a stream you are legally allowed to run—or one YouTube will leave uninterrupted.
Before you stream: clear the recordings and compositions
Do not assume that a worship recording is cleared because it is online, labeled free, credited in the description, or has already appeared in another video. For each track, identify the owner of the sound recording (the master) and the rights holders for the underlying composition, including relevant writers, publishers, and other royalty participants. YouTube’s live terms make the person providing the stream responsible for obtaining the necessary rights and complying with applicable laws and licensing requirements in the stream territory.
Build a track-by-track rights record
Ask the relevant rights holders for written permission that covers the actual use you intend: continuous YouTube live streaming, the visual presentation, the territories where the stream will be available, the permission period, and whether the stream may be archived or replayed. Which permissions are needed, and who can grant them, depend on the particular recordings, compositions, agreements, and territories. Keep the paperwork and a track list together; a general permission for one recording does not establish clearance for every song in a playlist.
Ask about Content ID allowlisting
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A stream may receive a warning, show a placeholder image, or be interrupted or terminated. YouTube cautions that even a licensed stream can be interrupted if the channel has not been added to the rights holder’s Content ID allowlist. Ask each relevant owner whether allowlisting is needed, get confirmation in writing, and test before depending on the stream for a continuous broadcast. An allowlist request is not a substitute for obtaining permission.

Do not treat Creator Music or “free music” as blanket clearance
YouTube says Creator Music does not support licensing for live content; it is not a route to license a 24/7 worship stream. A credit line also does not grant rights. YouTube points creators toward options such as original or public-domain material, permission from the copyright owner, the YouTube Audio Library, and third-party sources whose terms are checked. For any catalog, read the actual license for live use, territories, and archives rather than assuming it covers this format.
Set up a continuous stream with an encoder
Use this workflow for a computer-based software encoder or a dedicated hardware encoder. The labels and layout in YouTube Studio may change, but the essentials are the same: create the live stream, copy its server URL and stream key into the encoder, check the incoming preview and stream health, and start the encoder feed.

- Enable live streaming if needed. If this is the channel’s first stream, enable live streaming in YouTube Studio. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so do this well before the intended launch.
- Prepare the playlist. Put only the recordings you have cleared into the loop. Decide what image or other visual will appear while the audio plays, and check that the visual itself is cleared for the stream and any planned archive. Test the whole sequence, including transitions and playback at the end of the list.
- Create the stream in Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Copy the stream URL (server URL) and stream key shown for that stream into the matching fields in your encoder.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your stream. Do not publish it or include it in a public screenshot. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder with the new key.
- Set the encoder and send a test feed. Use H.264 video with constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and AAC or MP3 audio. For a first test, use 720p at 30 fps or 1080p at 30 fps and the matching bitrate guidance below. Start the encoder and wait for YouTube’s preview before starting the public stream.
- Check stream health before going live. Confirm that the intended picture and audio reach the preview, that the playlist advances, and that Live Control Room shows no unresolved stream-health warning. Test using the actual recordings and visual rather than a placeholder clip.
- Start the live broadcast and monitor it. Begin the stream in Live Control Room when the preview is ready. During the broadcast, watch for stream-health warnings, playback failures, rights warnings, and loss of encoder or internet connectivity. Have someone responsible for responding to problems if the stream is meant to run unattended.
Choose a resolution and upload capacity you can sustain
YouTube’s published H.264 recommendations include these two starting points. They are platform recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular connection or visual will work well.

Use CBR and a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds. AAC or MP3 are listed audio codecs. Test the actual audio level and picture in Live Control Room. A low-motion worship visual may be less demanding than fast-changing footage, but do not assume it will be acceptable without checking the real feed.

Measure upload, not download
Use the available upload capacity at the place where the encoder will run, not the advertised download speed. YouTube recommends leaving about 20% spare upload capacity beyond the stream bitrate. For a 5 Mbps video stream, that means roughly 6 Mbps of available upload capacity for that stream alone, before other network traffic; this is arithmetic from YouTube’s headroom recommendation, not a separate YouTube threshold. Test at the encoder location and repeat at busy times. If the connection fluctuates or stream health degrades, lower the bitrate or resolution and test again.
Software encoder or dedicated hardware?

YouTube says a laptop can stream and that expensive equipment is not required. Whichever route you choose, test a backup encoder’s failover if you plan to use one, and check any local archive files rather than assuming they were captured correctly.

Plan for interruptions and archives
Recovery and operator coverage
A continuous broadcast still depends on a working encoder, stable upload, valid stream key, and YouTube accepting the feed. Decide who will restart the encoder, investigate connection loss, or respond to a copyright interruption. If uninterrupted operation matters, rehearse failure recovery before relying on the stream. YouTube’s streaming guidance recommends testing backup-encoder failover and checking local archive files.
Do not promise a single 24-hour archive
YouTube’s encoder instructions say streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not establish that one 24-hour session will be archived as a single replay. If you need an archive, plan shorter sessions and verify the current behavior in Studio; separately confirm that your rights cover the archived or replayed material.

Monetization is a separate decision from copyright clearance
Having permission to use music does not guarantee that a channel or stream will qualify for monetization. YouTube’s channel monetization policies identify reused content without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value as a concern. Its inauthentic-content policy also addresses repetitive or mass-produced content. A loop of recordings can therefore raise a monetization question independently of whether the underlying music rights are cleared.
