You can loop a prerecorded video on YouTube Live from a Windows PC by sending it through an encoder such as OBS. In YouTube Studio, create or select a live stream, copy its server URL and private stream key into the encoder, set the video source to repeat, then start the encoder and the live event. Before you begin, verify that your channel can livestream and test your actual upload connection at the bitrate you plan to use.
Before you start: channel, video rights and connection
- Check live access: YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. Confirm availability in your own YouTube Studio account; platform features can vary.
- Use content you have the rights to stream: YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. Unaddressed matches can lead to interruption or termination, and a license may not be enough unless the rights holder has allowlisted your channel through Content ID.
- Check upload capacity: Your total stream bitrate must fit within available upload bandwidth. YouTube recommends about 20% headroom for the primary stream plus backup; shared networks can reduce the bandwidth available to your PC. Test the connection at the planned settings rather than relying on a generic speed figure for India.
- Plan for power and connectivity: This method depends on your PC and internet connection staying available. The reviewed YouTube guidance does not establish India-specific upload speeds or guarantee uninterrupted local power or network service.
YouTube recommends RTMPS when your encoder supports it. HLS can be useful for codecs RTMP does not support, but it has higher latency; for a typical OBS setup, use a compatible RTMPS connection.
Set up the live event in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio → Create → Go Live.
- In Live Control Room, create a stream or select a scheduled or current stream. Set its title, description, visibility and other metadata for the intended audience.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in the encoder settings. The key is a private credential that directs your feed to the right stream. Do not share it; if it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio before broadcasting again.
Configure OBS on Windows and loop the video
- Install and open OBS Studio, then add your prerecorded video as a source in the scene you want to broadcast. YouTube lists OBS among its encoder options. A software encoder is suitable for a straightforward single-source loop; scenes and multiple sources are useful when you need a more involved production.
- Set the video source to repeat or loop in the current OBS interface. The exact control can vary by OBS version and source type, so confirm the source’s current properties and test that playback returns to the beginning instead of stopping at the end.
- In OBS stream settings, choose YouTube or a compatible custom service, then enter the server URL and stream key from Live Control Room. Prefer RTMPS if available.
- Choose output resolution and bitrate your PC and connection can sustain. Keep the total bitrate within available upload bandwidth and preserve the recommended headroom. YouTube’s guidance does not specify a single India-wide speed requirement; the right setting depends on the actual connection and stream configuration.
- Start streaming from OBS. Wait for the incoming preview in Live Control Room and check that the picture, audio and loop behave correctly. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring stream quality before relying on a broadcast.
- When ready, start the live event in Live Control Room. Monitor the stream while it runs, especially if this is your first test at the selected settings.
Archive limits and monetization expectations
Will YouTube save a long loop?
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If preserving the full video matters, record a local backup as YouTube recommends; do not treat the live archive as the only copy.
Does repeating a video qualify for monetization?
No loop guarantees monetization. YouTube’s July 15, 2025 clarification renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” and says repetitive or mass-produced material remains ineligible; the policy applies to livestreams. Reused-content review is separate from copyright: permission to rebroadcast someone else’s work does not by itself show that a channel adds original commentary, substantial modification or educational or entertainment value. This is a monetization risk, not a blanket ban on every repeated stream.

YouTube’s India-localized earning guidance lists ad-revenue thresholds of 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 qualified long-form watch hours in the past 365 days or 10 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days, subject to other account and program requirements and YouTube’s acceptance. Meeting a threshold does not promise approval or earnings from a loop. YouTube also notes that monetization-feature availability can vary by country or region.
Stop the stream safely
- End the event in Live Control Room.
- Stop the encoder feed in OBS after ending the event.
- If you plan another broadcast, confirm the intended stream and key in Studio before starting again.
Troubleshooting common problems
