To run an all-day prerecorded-video loop on YouTube Live from a low-power PC, send the video through an encoder to a scheduled YouTube stream, choose a resolution and bitrate your PC and measured upload connection can sustain, and test the complete setup before going live. Keep the stream key private, plan for power and internet interruptions, and make a local recording if you need a dependable replay: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured in full.
Before you set up the loop
- Your YouTube channel must be eligible for live streaming. YouTube says first-time enablement can take up to 24 hours; the channel must be verified and must not have a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube’s current guidance says creators must be at least 16 to livestream. Check the channel well before the planned start.
- Prepare video and audio you have the rights to stream. A live format does not make copyrighted material safe to broadcast. Review YouTube’s streaming tips and applicable copyright rules; do not assume that permission to watch or download a video includes permission to retransmit it.
- Decide whether viewers need a complete replay. YouTube’s archive guidance says a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all, and DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable beyond 12 hours.
Choose settings your PC and connection can sustain
Use the upload speed available to the encoder, not the advertised download speed. YouTube recommends running a speed test and leaving 20% upload headroom. Test at the same location and under conditions similar to the broadcast; other devices sharing the connection can reduce available capacity.
| H.264 output | YouTube-listed minimum bitrate | YouTube-recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 360p30 | 0.4 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
| 480p30 | 0.4 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
| 720p30 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
These are YouTube Help’s H.264 recommendations, not measurements of Indian broadband or guarantees that a particular PC can encode the output. For a modest machine, begin with a lower resolution and frame rate, then test the actual video: motion, overlays, audio processing, and the selected encoder affect system load. YouTube automatically transcodes incoming live streams to multiple output formats, so sending a higher-resolution feed is not the only way viewers can watch.
YouTube’s current RTMP/RTMPS guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, up to 60 fps, and AAC or MP3 audio. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds), RTMPS, and Rec. 709 with 8-bit depth for SDR. Use only a codec your installed encoder and PC support; a codec with lower listed bitrates is not useful if the machine cannot encode it reliably. See YouTube’s encoder settings for the current combinations and guidance.

Set up and test the YouTube stream
- Enable and check live access. In YouTube Studio, confirm live streaming is available for the channel. Allow for the possible first-time activation delay, verify the channel, and check for restrictions before scheduling a long broadcast.
- Create or schedule the live event. In YouTube Studio, create a live stream and choose its visibility and schedule. For a preflight, use a private or unlisted event as appropriate. Copy the server URL and stream key shown for the event.
- Configure your encoder. Paste YouTube’s server URL and stream key into the encoder’s streaming settings. Select a tested resolution, frame rate, video codec, bitrate, CBR, and two-second keyframe interval. Configure audio to use AAC or MP3. The exact labels vary by encoder, so use its streaming or output settings rather than assuming a universal menu path.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password. Do not post it, include it in a screenshot, or share it with anyone who does not need to operate the stream. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before broadcasting.
- Run a realistic trial. Play the same video, overlays, and audio you plan to use. Start the encoder, check the Live Control Room preview and stream health, and watch CPU/GPU use and upload stability during an extended test. A brief successful connection does not show whether a low-power PC can sustain the load for a day.
- Start the event and monitor it. Confirm the preview and audio before making the broadcast public. Keep an eye on YouTube’s stream health and the encoder. YouTube warns that a network disruption can break a stream; avoid major configuration changes during the event unless needed to recover it.
Plan for power, network, and replay
Reduce avoidable connection problems
Ethernet can make the connection between the PC and router more predictable than Wi-Fi, but it cannot fix a problem on the ISP connection. Keep other high-bandwidth uses off the shared network where practical and leave the recommended upload headroom. YouTube does not require Ethernet.
Use backup power for short interruptions, not as a guarantee
A UPS sized for the combined PC and router load may bridge a brief local power interruption. Estimate the actual load and consult the manufacturer’s runtime information; YouTube does not prescribe a UPS size. A UPS cannot keep the stream online through an ISP outage, a YouTube interruption, or a power cut longer than its runtime.

Make your own archive if the replay matters
Enable local recording in your encoder and verify that the recording file is growing before relying on it. YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, and DVR rewind can be limited or unavailable beyond that duration. Ending and restarting in shorter sessions may make archives more manageable, but each restart creates a distinct live event and can interrupt viewers or change the watch page.
Common problems and fixes
- YouTube does not show the stream: Confirm live access is enabled, allow for first-time activation, and check that the encoder has the correct event’s server URL and stream key.
- Stream health reports instability or dropped frames: Compare the configured bitrate with measured upload capacity, restore upload headroom, and reduce the bitrate or output resolution if needed. Check whether other devices are using the connection.
- The PC becomes overloaded: Reduce resolution or frame rate, close unnecessary applications, and test again with the actual loop content. A lower network bitrate does not by itself guarantee lower encoding load; verify CPU/GPU use in the chosen encoder.
- Viewers cannot hear audio or it sounds wrong: Check the source file, encoder audio input and codec, and the Live Control Room preview during a test. Confirm the loop has not reached a silent or unintended section.
- The stream ends after a power or internet interruption: Restore the PC/router connection and check YouTube Studio and the encoder before restarting. A UPS may cover a short local power interruption, but it cannot resolve a wider outage.
- The full-day replay is missing or incomplete: YouTube does not guarantee an archive for streams exceeding 12 hours. Use and verify a local recording if you need the complete video.
Or let it run in the cloud
