You can stream prerecorded gameplay or gaming ambience to YouTube around the clock by sending it through an encoder such as OBS, using the stream URL and key for a YouTube Live event. Before going public, confirm that you have the necessary rights, test playback in Live Control Room and on the watch page, and decide how you will monitor interruptions. YouTube documents automatic archiving only for streams shorter than 12 hours, and neither an uninterrupted 24/7 loop nor monetization is guaranteed.
Before you start: eligibility, rights and a realistic plan
Check that your channel can go live
YouTube’s encoder setup guidance requires a verified channel. Its live-stream eligibility guidance also says the channel must have no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. Check eligibility before preparing a long session; if the channel is restricted, an encoder cannot bypass that restriction. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
Clear the game and every audio element
Permission to play a game does not necessarily include permission to broadcast or monetize its footage. Check the specific publisher’s commercial-use policy, and confirm that the game footage, soundtrack, separate music, ambience, overlays and any third-party material may be included in your stream. YouTube’s livestream terms make the creator responsible for having the necessary rights, including music rights. Keep copies of permissions and policy pages that apply to your use. Do not treat gameplay or a loop as automatically monetizable
YouTube says monetization of game content depends on the publisher’s commercial-use rights, and simply showing gameplay for an extended period may not be accepted. Its channel monetization rules assess reused content separately from inauthentic content, and the review applies to the channel as a whole. A loop of the same footage with little added contribution can raise concerns about repetitive or mass-produced material; there is no guaranteed outcome for an individual channel. YouTube’s July 15, 2025 policy notice clarified that repetitive or mass-produced material falls under its “inauthentic content” policy. Make your own selection, editing, context or other creative contribution clear, but do not assume that doing so guarantees monetization. See YouTube’s channel monetization policies.

Prepare the prerecorded footage
Use a file you are entitled to stream
Choose original gameplay footage or footage for which you have permission. Check the finished file from beginning to end for unintended gaps, abrupt endings, muted or clipped audio, unwanted overlays and material you do not have rights to use. If you plan to repeat it, consider whether the resulting stream offers meaningful creative value rather than presenting someone else’s work or an undifferentiated loop as your own.
Plan for the kind of stream you want viewers to see
Decide whether the live event should be public, unlisted or private while you test, and whether you need a replay afterward. A continuous broadcast and a replay archive are separate operational needs: YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived, but does not establish automatic archiving for a 24/7 stream. If a replay matters, plan separate sessions under 12 hours and verify the current result in YouTube Studio rather than relying on a long session to produce an archive.
Set up the YouTube event and encoder

Create or schedule the event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a live stream. Review its visibility and live settings, including latency, DVR and auto-start or auto-stop as appropriate. The exact options available can depend on the event and current YouTube interface; use YouTube’s live-stream settings guide.

Copy the event’s stream URL and key. In Live Control Room, obtain the stream URL and stream key shown for the event, then enter them in your encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a credential: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to send video to your event. Reset it if it is exposed or compromised.

Configure an encoder. OBS is one encoder identified in YouTube’s setup guidance. Configure it to send the prerecorded video and its intended audio to the event using the supplied URL and key. YouTube’s guidance does not prescribe a universal looping configuration for OBS, so verify that your chosen playback and encoder setup actually continues the file as intended before relying on it.

Choose an ingestion protocol only when you need to. RTMP(S) and HLS have different requirements. YouTube documents HLS for cases that need a capability such as HDR or a codec unsupported by RTMP; HLS has specific segment requirements and higher latency than RTMP. If you select HLS, follow the documented encoder and segment requirements rather than assuming default settings are compatible. See YouTube’s HLS setup instructions.
Hardware and connection expectations
YouTube says expensive equipment is not required, but an encoder setup does need a computer capable of running the chosen encoder and a connection that can send the feed. The cited YouTube guidance does not establish a defensible minimum computer specification for this use. Check YouTube’s live streaming tips, then test your own setup; do not assume a particular computer or home connection will sustain an uninterrupted all-day stream.
Test first, then start the public stream

Run a private or unlisted test. Start the encoder and wait for the event to receive the feed. Check the Live Control Room preview for the expected picture and sound.

Check real playback. Open the watch page on a separate browser or device, and check it on a mobile device too. Confirm that video and audio stay in sync, the image is visible, and the stream is playing rather than only appearing in the encoder preview.

Verify your recording or archive plan. If you are making a local recording, confirm it is being saved where expected. If you need a YouTube replay, use a session shorter than 12 hours and check the result in Studio; do not infer archive availability for a longer broadcast.

Start publicly and monitor it. When the test is satisfactory, set the event’s visibility as intended and start the public stream. Keep an eye on the encoder and the watch page. YouTube’s guidance does not promise uninterrupted looping, automatic recovery or round-the-clock uptime for a particular computer, connection or encoder configuration.
Choose between one long stream and shorter sessions

YouTube does not prescribe a universally best schedule. Choose based on whether you need an archive, how much monitoring and restarting you can manage, how you will respond to interruptions, and whether each session has distinct value.
Troubleshoot common problems

The encoder cannot connect: confirm you copied the stream URL and key for the correct event and entered them in the encoder’s streaming settings. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder with the replacement.

The encoder is sending, but the preview or watch page is blank: check the selected video source and playback in the encoder, then check the event preview and public or test watch page separately. An encoder preview alone does not confirm that viewers can see the event.

Video plays but audio is missing or wrong: check the file’s audio, the encoder’s selected audio source and the watch-page playback. Review the full recording before going public so a muted track or unintended audio is not repeated for hours.

The stream stops or drops: check the encoder and connection, then verify the event’s status in Live Control Room before restarting. YouTube’s cited guidance does not guarantee automatic recovery for a particular setup; plan how you will notice a stop and resume the event.

The stream is not archived: check its duration and the current event status in YouTube Studio. Automatic archiving is documented for streams shorter than 12 hours; do not assume a longer 24/7 broadcast will have a replay.

A rights or monetization concern appears: review the game publisher’s commercial-use terms and every audio and visual element in the stream. Address claims or restrictions through YouTube’s current process, and remember that channel monetization review considers the channel, not just one stream.
