YouTube Studio schedules the live events; OBS sends the video and audio. Scheduling an event in YouTube does not, by itself, tell OBS to load a different media playlist at that time. To run different playlists on one PC, schedule each YouTube event, then separately arrange and verify which media source OBS will play for each broadcast.
How the two scheduling layers work
A YouTube live event and an OBS playlist are separate things. YouTube’s encoder instructions have you provide the Live server URL and stream key to the encoder. For a scheduled event, the documented sequence is to start the encoder, wait for its preview in Live Control Room, and click Go live. OBS provides the feed; YouTube Studio manages the event and its viewer-facing schedule.
Scheduling can give viewers a reminder and a shareable event URL. As YouTube Help puts it, “Scheduling a stream lets you promote your stream.” It does not follow that the scheduled start time changes OBS’s media source. The official material cited here does not document a built-in OBS clock scheduler that selects a different playlist for each YouTube event.
Schedule different playlists on one OBS PC
1. Create a YouTube event for each broadcast
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule each event on the intended channel. Set the event details and schedule, then keep its watch URL for sharing.
- For each event, check that the encoder is set up for the intended channel and event using the YouTube Live server URL and stream key. A stream configuration may be reused for broadcasts at different times on one channel, a use case Google describes in its Live Streaming API documentation. The event schedule and the encoder’s media choice still need to be managed separately.
2. Set up the playlist in OBS
- Open the OBS scene used for the broadcast and add or configure a Media Source or VLC Video Source for the audio and video files. These are the source types named in OBS’s performance guidance for media playback.
- Choose the files and playback behavior needed for that broadcast. If different events need different playlists, prepare the corresponding source or source configuration for each one. Select the intended source manually before the event unless you have separately verified a scheduling or automation method for your operating system and OBS version.
- Check the scene’s audio and video output before going live. A YouTube event being scheduled is not confirmation that OBS has selected the right files or that playback will advance as intended.
3. Start and verify each scheduled broadcast
- At the scheduled time, start OBS with the intended scene and media source, and start the encoder feed.
- In YouTube Live Control Room, wait for the incoming preview and confirm it shows the expected playlist and audio.
- Click Go live in the scheduled-event flow. Confirm the event is live and watch playback long enough to catch a wrong source, missing audio, or an unexpected end of playback.
Choose the setup for your broadcast pattern

Can one PC handle simultaneous OBS broadcasts?
There is no universal capacity figure for a PC running multiple broadcast workloads. OBS says the GPU renders and composites scenes, and advises reducing workload, simplifying scenes, or lowering output settings if encoding is overloaded. Its guide is general guidance, not a guarantee that a particular computer or multi-instance arrangement will work.

Before depending on simultaneous feeds, test the exact scene complexity, resolution, frame rate, encoder settings, operating system, and available upload capacity under the intended load. Watch OBS’s rendering and encoding indicators and verify each YouTube preview. If the feed stutters, drops frames, or fails to reach YouTube reliably, reduce the workload or run fewer concurrent feeds.
What happens when a playlist ends?
A playlist reaching its last item is not documented as a command to stop the encoder or end the YouTube event. Decide what OBS should do when playback ends—such as continue with another source or have an operator stop the broadcast—and test that behavior with the actual source configuration. Do not rely on the YouTube event schedule to manage OBS playback or shutdown.

YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived when encoder content stops. That specific archive condition does not establish what will happen to a longer stream, or mean that a playlist ending necessarily stops the encoder.
Troubleshoot scheduling and playback problems
- The event is scheduled, but the wrong playlist appears: YouTube’s schedule does not select OBS media. Check the active scene and source in OBS, then verify the preview in Live Control Room before clicking Go live.
- No preview appears in Live Control Room: Check that OBS is sending to the intended channel with the correct YouTube Live server URL and stream key, and that the encoder is running.
- The playlist ends but the event remains active: A media file or playlist ending is not documented as an encoder-stop action. Check OBS’s source playback behavior and decide whether to switch sources or stop the encoder yourself.
- The PC struggles during simultaneous broadcasts: OBS identifies scene rendering and compositing as GPU work. Simplify scenes or lower output settings, then test again under the intended concurrent load.
- A broadcast is intended for another channel: Configure a separate stream for that channel as Google’s documentation requires, and check the destination before starting the encoder.
