1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteRunning OBS around the clock on an India-based VPS is possible, but the lowest advertised plan is not automatically capable of encoding your scene continuously. OBS on Linux needs a supported display environment and OpenGL 3.3-compatible graphics; the server must also sustain your chosen encoder, resolution, frame rate, network route and transfer use. No published plan details establish that a particular low-cost VPS will do that for every stream. Choose a candidate, configure a conservative test, and verify it under your own workload before leaving it unattended.
Is a low-cost VPS suitable for 24/7 OBS?
It can be, if the VPS has enough sustained CPU capacity, memory, graphics/display support and outbound transfer for the stream you intend to run. OBS cautions that meeting its system requirements does not guarantee a computer can stream or record with OBS Studio (OBS system requirements). Software encoding can make sustained CPU performance more important than the headline monthly price.
An India region can be convenient for administration or audience-related latency, but its location alone does not prove a better route to YouTube ingest. Test the actual region and watch YouTube’s stream health. The provider pages below do not validate continuous OBS performance on their entry plans.
Compare VPS plans on the costs and capabilities that matter
Before ordering, compare the selected plan and region—not just the provider’s starting price. Check CPU behavior under sustained load, RAM, Linux image and graphics/display compatibility, included outbound transfer, overage charges, restart behavior, remote access and monitoring. Account for taxes and billing terms applicable to you.

| Amazon Lightsail | AWS’s Linux/Unix public IPv4 bundles were listed from $5 USD/month on its pricing page accessed 2026-10-03, for a bundle with 0.5 GB RAM, 2 vCPUs, 20 GB SSD and 1 TB transfer on the main price table. AWS says Mumbai-region plans have half the transfer allowance shown. Lightsail pricing | AWS describes Lightsail CPU as burstable and says workloads needing consistently high CPU, including video encoding, are better suited to EC2. Do not treat the smallest bundle as a validated streaming setup. Confirm current pricing and Mumbai allowance. Lightsail bundles and limits |
| DigitalOcean Droplets | DigitalOcean’s pricing page accessed 2026-10-03 lists bundled Droplets starting at $4/month and outbound transfer starting at 500 GiB/month, offers common Linux distributions including Ubuntu, and lists Bangalore. Droplet pricing | The page does not establish that an entry plan can encode a particular scene continuously. Confirm current Bangalore availability, the chosen plan’s quota and overage, then run a real sustained test. |

Estimate YouTube transfer before you choose a plan
YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and not exceeding four seconds. Its H.264 bitrate table gives these representative ingest figures (YouTube Help, accessed 2026):

| Output | Minimum bitrate | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 2 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
These are YouTube ingest recommendations, not proof that a VPS can sustain the bitrate or reach the ingest server reliably. For a rough transfer estimate, a stream at B Mbps sends approximately B × 10.8 GB per 24-hour day before protocol overhead. This is a unit-based estimate, not a provider billing figure: uptime, overhead, the provider’s transfer-accounting convention and overages affect the bill. Check the exact regional quota and how excess use is charged.
Prepare YouTube and the VPS
1. Check channel eligibility and broadcast settings
Confirm that live streaming is available on your YouTube channel and review the current Live Control Room settings before automating. YouTube’s broadcast settings and channel readiness are part of the setup, not something a VPS can solve. OBS’s community setup guidance is dated and UI-sensitive, so use current YouTube controls rather than relying on its old screen labels: OBS community setup guide.

2. Select and record the exact VPS configuration
Choose an India region only if its location suits your needs; record the plan, OS image, transfer quota, overage policy, CPU sharing or burst characteristics, restart policy and remote access method. Select a plan based on sustained encoding, not the minimum advertised price.
3. Confirm Linux display and graphics requirements
Install OBS using a supported source for the chosen Linux distribution, then verify that the machine has an X window system or Wayland and OpenGL 3.3-compatible GPU support, as required by OBS’s published Linux/Unix requirements. A bare SSH shell by itself does not establish that OBS has the display environment it needs. A remote desktop or correctly configured virtual display may be an implementation choice for the selected package and image; the cited OBS requirements do not document a universal headless recipe. Validate the approach on your specific VPS before building on it.

Configure a conservative first YouTube stream
- Set up a YouTube live event. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the broadcast and obtain its server URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, paste it into public logs, or store it in a world-readable script.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select the appropriate YouTube service or configure the server and key provided for the event, then use RTMPS where available. UI labels can vary by OBS version.
- Start modestly. Choose a resolution and frame rate your VPS can encode continuously. For a first H.264 test, 720p30 is a conservative point to evaluate; use CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, and set bitrate with YouTube’s published range as a guide. A recommendation is not a capacity guarantee.
- Use a representative scene. Include the audio and moving video expected in the real stream. A static menu or silent desktop can understate load and conceal problems.
- Run and monitor a sustained test. YouTube recommends a speed test and a preflight using audio and movement similar to the real broadcast, as well as monitoring stream health and messages during the event. Leave your own configuration running long enough to expose CPU contention, frame drops, memory pressure, network instability and transfer consumption; the appropriate duration depends on your workload and is not a universal standard.
- Test recovery before relying on unattended operation. Reboot the instance and confirm OBS starts as intended and YouTube receives the stream again. Only after that test, configure process supervision, start-on-boot and alerting for your OS and OBS package. Do not copy an unverified universal service file or put the key in a file readable by other users.
Copyright, reused content and stream continuity
A successful connection does not establish that your broadcast is allowed to use everything it contains. Before scheduling a continuous stream, make sure you have the necessary rights to the video, music, game footage and other material, and review YouTube’s current policies for live content and monetization. Repeatedly looping or rebroadcasting material is not a substitute for permission; copyright claims, restrictions or channel eligibility issues can interrupt a technically healthy setup. Keep a copy of your source files and check YouTube’s live messages while testing.
Troubleshoot the common failure points
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or change |
|---|---|---|
| OBS will not open or reports display/graphics errors | Missing display session or incompatible graphics/OpenGL support on the chosen image | Verify the Linux display environment and OpenGL 3.3-compatible GPU support. Do not assume SSH alone supplies them; validate any remote or virtual display implementation on that VPS. |
| Encoding overload, skipped frames or unstable output | Insufficient sustained CPU for the encoder, resolution, frame rate or scene complexity | Check OBS statistics and VPS CPU use. Reduce resolution, frame rate or scene complexity, or choose a plan with suitable sustained CPU and retest. |
| Dropped frames or poor YouTube stream health | Unstable route, insufficient outgoing capacity, bitrate mismatch or network contention | Run the recommended speed and preflight tests from the chosen region, check YouTube health messages, and lower bitrate if needed. A provider’s advertised transfer quota does not guarantee route quality. |
| Stream fails to connect | Wrong event/server settings, incorrect or rotated key, or channel not ready for live streaming | Recheck Live Control Room settings, current channel eligibility, and the key. Replace a compromised key and update OBS securely. |
| Stream stops after a reboot or disconnect | OBS is not configured to start again, or reconnect behavior has not been tested | Test restart recovery deliberately, then configure and monitor process supervision appropriate to the selected OS and package. |
| Unexpected transfer bill or quota exhaustion | Continuous bitrate traffic, protocol overhead, regional allowance or provider accounting differs from the estimate | Compare measured transfer with the provider’s regional quota and overage terms; reduce bitrate or select a plan with suitable outbound transfer. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a continuous YouTube stream from uploaded video rather than operating OBS on a server, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer can stay off. It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and uploaded video plays as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot.
