Yes, you can run Sentry behind Coolify, but it is not a one-click deployment. Coolify does not currently provide a Sentry template, and Sentry’s full self-hosted Compose project is too complex for Coolify’s normal Compose import path in the reported setup. The practical route is to install Sentry on the server with Sentry’s own install.sh, then configure Coolify’s reverse proxy to expose Sentry’s web service on port 9000 over a real HTTPS domain. Treat this as a large, stateful stack rather than a small application: plan capacity, persistent storage, backups and upgrade procedures before creating the proxy.

What the Coolify deployment actually looks like
Coolify remains useful for the domain, TLS certificate and incoming proxy, while Sentry’s installer owns the Sentry application stack. In other words, you are not converting Sentry into a conventional Coolify application. You install and operate Sentry’s Docker services on the host, and Coolify forwards public traffic to the Sentry web container.

A reported review of Coolify’s service catalog found 339 templates but no Sentry template. The same report counted 839 lines and 64 services in Sentry’s self-hosted Compose definition and noted that YAML anchors in that file were rejected by Coolify’s Compose parser. Those observations come from one third-party setup, so confirm behavior against your Coolify version, but they are a useful warning: importing the official file as if it were a small Compose application is not a dependable plan.
The supported-looking path is to use Sentry’s release-specific installer on the machine, start the resulting stack with Docker Compose, and put Coolify’s proxy in front of port 9000. Keep the Sentry project directory and its data volumes outside any disposable deployment directory so a Coolify redeploy cannot remove the installation.

Capacity and compatibility you need before installing
Sentry’s current self-hosted documentation lists a minimum of four CPU cores, 16 GB of RAM, 16 GB of swap and 20 GB of free disk space. The figures are minimums, not a comfortable production target. Check the version-specific requirements in Sentry’s self-hosted documentation immediately before installation because both the service count and resource profile change between releases.

The test above used Sentry release 26.7.2, Coolify 4.1.2 and Ubuntu 24.04 on a 4-vCPU/16-GB host. It is a useful reality check, not a universal benchmark: event volume, retention, enabled features, database size and concurrent users can all raise consumption. One third-party FAQ recommends 32 GB of RAM for better performance; regard that as a practical recommendation rather than an official minimum.
Prepare the host and Coolify
Choose a dedicated or deliberately oversized server
Do not place Sentry on the same small machine as game servers, databases or other latency-sensitive services. Sentry launches many cooperating services, and memory pressure in one service can make the entire host unstable. If you must share a server, measure baseline usage first and leave enough unallocated RAM for ingestion spikes, compaction and upgrades.
Install and verify Docker prerequisites
Use a supported Debian or Ubuntu release, install Docker Engine and the Docker Compose v2 plugin, and confirm both before touching Sentry:

Decide where persistent data will live
Identify the Sentry self-hosted directory and Docker volume location before installation. Back up the database and uploaded data independently of Coolify’s application metadata. A proxy configuration can be recreated; Sentry’s issue history, organization data and event store cannot.

Reserve a hostname
Create a DNS record such as sentry.example.com pointing to the server before requesting a certificate. Use a real public hostname, not an IP address or a temporary local name. The hostname must remain stable because Sentry generates links and validates browser origins against it.
Install Sentry with the official self-hosted repository
Use the release tag recommended by the current self-hosted documentation rather than blindly tracking the repository’s default branch. Release changes can add services, alter migrations or change resource requirements.
- Clone the
getsentry/self-hostedrepository onto the server and check out the latest release tag supported by the documentation. Keep the checkout in a durable directory such as/opt/sentry, not in a temporary build workspace. - Change into that directory and run
./install.sh. The script pulls the required images, creates or updates the database schema, writes configuration files and prompts you to create an administrator account. - Allow roughly five to ten minutes for a normal first run, with longer times possible on a small disk or a slow image registry connection. Do not interrupt the process during migrations.
- Start the stack with
docker compose up -d --wait. If your Compose version does not support--wait, usedocker compose up -dand then inspect service health manually. - Check the result with
docker compose ps. A service that is repeatedly restarting is not ready to put behind a public proxy; inspect its logs before continuing.
The installer is intentionally responsible for Sentry’s internal topology. Resist the temptation to delete services that look unused: workers, queues, databases, caches and scheduled jobs are part of the product’s operating model, and removing one can produce delayed failures rather than an immediate error.
Make Sentry aware of the public HTTPS origin
Reverse proxies change the origin that a browser sees. A Sentry instance can appear healthy at the container level yet reject login or organization requests when its trusted-origin settings do not include the public hostname.
- Open the generated
sentry.conf.pyin the self-hosted project directory. - Add the complete public HTTPS origin, including the hostname and the
httpsscheme, to the configuration’s CSRF trusted-origins setting. Preserve the file’s existing Python syntax and list format. - Ensure the configured URL prefix and the hostname you will enter in Coolify use the same scheme and host. Do not mix an HTTP origin in Sentry with an HTTPS-only proxy.
- Restart the affected services with
docker compose up -dafter saving the configuration, then watch the web and worker logs for configuration or migration errors.
The need for this change has been reported for a proxied setup, but it is not established that every reverse-proxy topology requires the same edit. If your release documents a different setting name or format, follow that release’s instructions instead of copying an older example.

Configure Coolify as the reverse proxy
Coolify’s labels and screens vary by version, so use the equivalent proxy or service settings in your installation rather than relying on a specific menu name. The important values are the upstream address, public domain and TLS policy.
- Create a proxied service or resource in the Coolify project that will own the hostname. Do not import Sentry’s complete Compose file into Coolify’s normal Compose editor.
- Set the upstream destination to the Sentry web service on port
9000, which is the default web port for the self-hosted installation. If Sentry is isolated in a separate Docker network, use the reachable container or host address that your Coolify proxy can resolve. - Assign the DNS name you prepared earlier as the public domain.
- Enable HTTPS and request a certificate through Coolify’s proxy. Redirect HTTP to HTTPS once the certificate is issued.
- Save and deploy the proxy configuration without stopping the Sentry stack. Coolify should terminate TLS and forward requests to port 9000.
Do not publish internal ports for the database, cache, queue or worker services. Only the web endpoint needs to be reachable from the internet, and administrative access to the host should remain restricted by your firewall and SSH policy.
Verify the deployment before inviting users
Check the host
- Run
docker compose psfrom the Sentry directory and confirm that the expected services remain up. - Use
docker statsduring startup and after the first quiet period to see whether memory or swap is exhausted. - Check disk usage for both the Sentry directory and Docker’s data root. Image pulls and migrations can consume space suddenly.
Check the public URL
- Open the HTTPS hostname in a private browser window and confirm that the Sentry login page loads without certificate warnings.
- Sign in with the administrator account created by the installer.
- Create a test organization and project, then send a test event from an SDK. Confirm that the event appears and that its timestamp and project association are correct.
- Inspect browser developer tools and Sentry logs if login loops, form submissions fail or static assets return mixed-content errors.
Check proxy headers and URLs
If redirects point to an internal container name, the proxy is not forwarding the original host or scheme correctly, or Sentry’s URL configuration does not match the public domain. Correct the proxy’s forwarded-host and forwarded-proto behavior using the settings exposed by your Coolify version, then restart only the affected service and test again.
Troubleshooting common Coolify and Sentry failures
Coolify rejects the Compose file
This is the expected failure mode when the parser cannot handle the large Sentry definition or its YAML anchors. Do not remove anchors or randomly delete services to make the file parse. Install through Sentry’s host-side install.sh workflow and use Coolify only for the proxy, or choose a separate orchestration method that supports the complete release file.

The installer stops during image pulls
Check Docker authentication, outbound network access, DNS resolution and free disk space. Re-run the installer from the same release checkout after fixing the underlying issue. Avoid changing release tags mid-installation because partially pulled images and migrations may no longer match.

Containers restart or the host swaps heavily
Read the service logs with docker compose logs --tail=200 <service-name>, then correlate the restart with docker stats and host memory pressure. A 16-GB machine can be tight even at idle in the reported test. Increase RAM before tuning individual containers; arbitrary memory limits can cause data loss or stalled ingestion if applied without understanding each service.
The login page loads but authentication fails
Confirm that the exact HTTPS hostname is present in the CSRF trusted-origins configuration and that the proxy forwards the public host and scheme. Clear stale cookies for the hostname, restart the relevant Sentry services and retry in a private window. If the problem persists, compare the configuration syntax with the documentation for your checked-out release rather than copying settings from an older guide.

Coolify reports a healthy proxy but the browser shows a gateway error
Verify that port 9000 is listening on the address reachable from the proxy and that host firewall rules permit that path. Check the Sentry web container logs and the proxy’s upstream error log. A running container is not proof that the web process is accepting connections; wait for migrations and health checks to finish.
Events are accepted but do not appear
Check worker, queue and database services, not only the web container. Inspect logs for migration failures, queue backlogs and disk exhaustion. Send a small test event after each correction so you can distinguish delayed processing from a bad DSN or project configuration.

Back up data before upgrades
Back up the Sentry database, uploaded files and any release-specific data stores before changing the release tag. Record the current tag, Docker image versions and configuration files. Test that a backup can be restored on a separate host; a copied directory that has never been restored is not a verified backup.

Upgrade one release at a time
Read the upgrade notes for the target release, check its resource requirements and run the installer or migration procedure from that release’s checkout. Start with docker compose up -d, monitor migrations and confirm that the web UI and event ingestion work before removing old images.
Monitor the whole stack
Track RAM, swap, CPU, disk growth, container restarts, queue latency and database health. Sentry’s usefulness depends on timely processing; an apparently available login page can hide a growing ingestion backlog. Set alerts before the filesystem reaches capacity or swap becomes constant.
Restrict administration
Expose only the HTTPS web endpoint through Coolify. Keep Docker, SSH and database administration private, enforce strong administrator credentials, and apply host security updates without changing the Sentry release checkout unexpectedly.
When this architecture is the wrong fit
Choose another deployment approach if your server cannot provide the documented minimum resources with headroom, if you need Coolify to manage every container lifecycle event, or if you cannot maintain backups and release upgrades yourself. The workaround is practical for an operator comfortable with Docker and host administration, but it is not a lightweight “deploy and forget” application. A managed Sentry offering or a separate dedicated host may reduce operational risk when event volume or uptime requirements exceed what one Coolify server can safely provide.
