Yes—you can run two YouTube livestreams at once with different playlists by creating two separate live events and sending each its own encoder feed, stream URL, and stream key. One practical setup uses two OBS output workflows, each with an OBS VLC Video source playing its own playlist. YouTube documents limits of 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key, with both limits applying at the same time.
What you need before setting up both streams
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled and verification complete. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours; streamers must be at least 16 and the account must not have a disqualifying recent restriction. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Two distinct playlists of video files, plus enough computer capacity and upload bandwidth to handle two outgoing feeds.
- OBS Studio with VLC installed. OBS’s VLC Video source supports media playlists, looping, and optional shuffle. See OBS’s VLC Video Source guide.
- Two separate YouTube live events, each configured for the feed it will receive.
For an ordinary channel, YouTube’s documented concurrent limits are 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. These are platform limits, not a guarantee that a particular computer, connection, or channel configuration can sustain that many feeds at a chosen quality. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
Create two separate YouTube live events
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create → Go live to open the Live Control Room.
- Create or schedule the first event. Set its title, visibility, and other event details, then choose the stream configuration intended for playlist one.
- Create or schedule a second event with its own title and details, configured for playlist two.
- For each event, note the stream URL and stream key shown in Studio. Keep the two event-to-feed mappings clear; the first encoder output must use the first event’s credentials, and the second must use the second event’s credentials.
YouTube distinguishes the viewer-facing live event from the incoming stream feed and its settings. Its API guidance describes separate simultaneous broadcasts with distinct liveStream resources when the content or stream settings differ. Binding one incoming feed to multiple broadcasts instead duplicates that same feed; it does not create two different playlists. See YouTube’s Live Streaming API getting-started guide.
Build a separate OBS playlist output for each event
Set up playlist one
- In OBS, create a scene for the first stream and add a VLC Video Source.
- Add the media files for playlist one in the desired order. Turn on playlist looping if the files should repeat; enable shuffle only if you want a randomized order.
- Configure an encoder output for the first YouTube event with that event’s stream URL and stream key.
Set up playlist two
- Create an independent scene or output workflow for the second stream and add another VLC Video source.
- Load playlist two and set its loop or shuffle behavior separately.
- Configure the second encoder output with the second event’s URL and stream key. Double-check the destination before starting so playlist two is not sent to event one.
The precise way to run two independent encoder outputs depends on your OBS installation and chosen output method. It may require separate OBS instances, an output plug-in, or another encoder arrangement. Confirm that your chosen setup can produce two genuinely separate feeds; do not assume that duplicating one output will assign different playlists automatically.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Test both feeds before going live
- Start the first output and check its Live Control Room preview. Verify the picture, audio, playlist order, and event destination.
- Repeat with the second output, checking its preview independently.
- If you want to check the configuration without a public broadcast, set the events to unlisted for the test.
- Once both previews are correct, start the events and monitor stream health, video, and audio for each feed.
YouTube recommends testing the stream, checking the preview and accessibility, and monitoring audio and video quality. Two encoded feeds increase the computer’s work and outgoing bandwidth compared with one feed. The capacity you need depends on the selected output settings and hardware, so test with the settings you intend to use. YouTube notes that local encoding is CPU-intensive and describes cloud encoding as an alternative for reducing local processing load.
Choose an approach that can produce two different feeds
| Approach | Useful when | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|
| Local software encoder | You need distinct scenes or file playlists and have sufficient computer capacity. | Flexible, but the computer must decode media, encode both outputs, and upload both feeds. OBS’s VLC Video source handles file playlists. |
| Hardware encoder | You already use production video equipment or need a dedicated encoder workflow. | YouTube lists standalone hardware encoders as an option; check that the chosen equipment can produce two independent feeds. |
| Cloud encoding | Local hardware is constrained or a remote workflow is preferable. | YouTube describes sending a feed to a service that distributes it; this may require a subscription and setup. Confirm the service accepts two distinct source playlists, rather than mirroring one feed. |
Compare options on their ability to create genuinely different feeds, supported resolution and bitrate, local or service capacity, upload bandwidth, operational complexity, and cost. YouTube’s overview of live-streaming workflows discusses local and cloud encoding considerations.

Common problems and fixes
Both events show the same playlist
Likely cause: one incoming feed was bound to both broadcasts, or both outputs point to the same source or encoder configuration. Give each event its own incoming feed and verify each output’s source, URL, and key separately.
The second feed will not start
Check YouTube’s active-stream limits, confirm the second event is configured, and make sure the encoder is using that event’s stream URL and key. Also verify that the selected OBS output method actually supports a second independent output.

Video stutters or the computer struggles
Two feeds add encoding and upload load. Test both at the intended settings, monitor system and stream health, and reduce output demands if your hardware or connection cannot sustain them. A cloud workflow may reduce local processing requirements, but confirm it supports two separate playlists.
The VLC Video source is missing
Install VLC, then reopen OBS and check the source list again. OBS requires VLC for this source to appear.
