You can reuse a previous YouTube live stream’s metadata, settings, and stream key instead of rebuilding the setup each time. But a 24/7 stream has an important limitation: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured in its archive, and DVR may be limited or unavailable. Keep a local recording if you need a dependable full copy, and confirm the music rights before you go live.
How to save and reuse your YouTube live stream setup
YouTube’s Live Control Room lets you create or schedule an encoder stream, then reuse a previous stream’s settings for a future session. Reuse copies the stream’s metadata, settings, and stream key; you can edit the new stream after creating it. YouTube also copies the previous stream’s auto-start and auto-stop selections, so check those before each broadcast.
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live to open the Live Control Room.
- In the Manage tab, create or schedule a stream. Scheduling creates an upcoming stream page that you can share and can allow viewers to set reminders.
- To carry over an existing setup, select Reuse settings on a previous stream. Review the copied title, description, privacy and other settings, plus the auto-start and auto-stop selections. Edit anything that should differ for this session.
- For a new encoder stream, copy YouTube’s Live server URL and stream key into the encoder’s streaming settings. Start the encoder, then check the preview in the Live Control Room. For a scheduled stream, complete the go-live step there when you are ready.
You can also create a custom stream key for reuse. Treat any stream key as a password: it authorizes an encoder to send video to your stream. Do not show it in screenshots, public notes, or publicly accessible automation settings. If it is exposed, reset it in the Live Control Room and replace the saved key in your encoder.

Will YouTube save a 24-hour livestream?
Do not rely on YouTube’s automatic archive to preserve a complete 24-hour broadcast. YouTube’s archive guidance says automatic archives apply to streams under 12 hours; streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends keeping a local backup. If a complete copy matters, record locally and check that the recording file is growing while the stream runs.

Can viewers rewind a 24/7 YouTube live stream?
Do not promise that viewers can rewind the full history of a very long stream. YouTube says DVR capabilities may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. If a particular earlier segment must remain available, preserve it separately rather than assuming the live player will retain it.
Confirm music rights before streaming Indian songs
A technically working stream is not necessarily authorized to broadcast the music. YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions state: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” YouTube also places responsibility for applicable laws and regulatory requirements on the provider in the territory where the stream is available.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can replace the stream with a placeholder and prompt you to stop using the content; if it remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. Even if you have a license, the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist or the stream can still be interrupted. Confirm the relevant rights and any required allowlisting with the rights holders before going live. A subscription or purchase for personal listening does not, by itself, establish broadcast rights.
The applicable licenses depend on the specific music, rights holders, and territories. YouTube’s general guidance does not identify which Indian licenses cover a particular catalog or establish that a track is cleared worldwide. Get catalog-specific guidance from the relevant rights holders or a qualified professional.

Pre-stream and ongoing checks
YouTube recommends setting up an encoder at least two hours before an event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the planned start. These are preparation recommendations, not a guarantee of uninterrupted 24/7 operation.
- Check the Live Control Room preview before completing the go-live step.
- Confirm the intended stream and reused settings are selected.
- Verify the local recording file is growing.
- Monitor audio and video quality while the stream is running.
- Keep the stream key private and update your encoder if you reset it.
YouTube’s published setup guidance does not establish a particular encoder, computer specification, network speed, power backup, playlist automation method, or continuous-stream recovery plan. Choose and validate those elements for your own setup rather than treating the recommended lead times as proof of 24/7 reliability.
