Download and watch your own match replay in the League of Legends client while it is available, then use the in-client recording or highlight feature to save the play as a video. Since Patch 26.20, only players who participated in a match can access its replay; other players and third-party apps or sites can no longer download it.
What changed with League replay access?
Riot Games’ Patch 26.20 notes, published October 6, 2026, limit replay access to people who played in the match. The change also removes replay-download access for third-party apps and sites. Riot says the restriction addresses security vulnerabilities exploited to build unauthorized tools.
You can still review your own matches by downloading and watching their replays directly in the League client. This means the reliable route to a highlight is to save it from your own replay while you can access it—not to depend on another player or an outside replay service.
How to save a highlight from your own match
- Open your match replay in the League client. Find the match through the client’s replay access and download it while it is still available. Riot confirms that players can download and watch their own replays in the client, but current exact menu labels and locations are not established.
- Watch the replay and find the moment. Move through the match until you reach the play you want to keep.
- Use the client’s recording or highlight feature. Riot’s published guide describes using the built-in recording tool to save a replay highlight as a video file. The guide dates to 2017, so treat this as the general workflow rather than a guarantee of today’s controls.
- Keep and test the video copy. Save or copy the resulting file to a durable location, then play it to confirm it works before closing the client.
Riot’s replay recording guide documents the historical recording flow. It does not establish the current button names, file format, default save folder, or how long a replay remains available.

Replay file or shareable video: which do you need?
| What you need | Best route | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Review your own match in League | Download and watch your replay in the League client | Riot confirms this remains available for matches you played. |
| Keep or share a specific play as a video | Record the highlight from your own replay using the client’s recording feature | Riot’s guide describes saving highlights as video files; current export details are not confirmed. |
| Download someone else’s replay or use an outside replay downloader | Not available under the Patch 26.20 policy | Only participants can access a match replay, and third-party replay downloads are removed. |
How long do League of Legends replays last?
Riot’s current Patch 26.20 notes do not state the replay retention period. Patch 14.6 notes from 2024 referred to replay storage returning to “~14 days as normal” after a temporary update, but that historical figure does not confirm the current availability window. Download and record a replay promptly rather than planning around a specific number of days.

Riot’s available current policy announcement confirms access eligibility and continued self-review, but does not specify the exact export controls, video format, default destination, or replay expiry duration. Because the recording guide is from 2017, check the current client interface rather than relying on old button names or folder paths.
