The simplest way to pay less for digital PS4 and PS5 games is to combine three habits: add games to the official PlayStation wishlist, enable wishlist notifications, and verify the live price and end date on the PlayStation Store Deals page before buying. An independent tracker can add historical-price and regional context, but the Store in your account’s region is the final authority.
Sale prices, promotion dates, catalog availability, and notification delivery can vary by country and change without notice. Treat alerts as reminders rather than guarantees, and check the checkout price yourself.

The low-effort routine
Set up the system once, then spend a few minutes reviewing it whenever you are ready to buy:
- Wishlist the game: open its Store page and select the heart-shaped wishlist control.
- Enable wishlist updates: turn on the relevant setting on PS5 and in the PlayStation App.
- Check the live Deals page: confirm the current price, edition and offer end date in your Store region.
- Use a tracker only when useful: consult an independent service for price history, regional coverage or another alert channel, then verify the live Store listing.
- Compare waiting with PS Plus access: if the title is added to the Extra or Premium catalog, decide whether catalog access fits how you actually play.
This approach does not require predicting the next sale or subscribing to a paid alert service. It simply puts games on your radar and gives you a repeatable final check before spending.

1. Add games to the official PlayStation wishlist
Use the heart on the game’s Store page
Open the game’s product page in the PlayStation Store and select the heart icon. Sony’s PlayStation Blog guide says the wishlist is available on a PS5 console, in the official PlayStation App for iOS and Android, and in a PC web browser. Add a game as soon as you become interested in it, even if you have no intention of buying it immediately; the list is most useful when it contains your future purchases rather than only games already on sale.
The German PlayStation Blog describes this function as adding games through the heart symbol and receiving automatic price alerts for promotions or price reductions. That statement is attributed to Ulrich Wimmeroth, freelance editor, and was published on April 20, 2026. The feature is presented as an automatic notification system, but the article does not promise a particular delivery time.
Keep the list usable on PS5
On PS5, wishlist entries can be sorted by release date, price, name or date added. Sorting by price is useful when you are ready to spend a fixed amount; sorting by date added brings older forgotten targets back into view; and sorting by release date helps you separate new releases from older games that may have had several promotions already.
A long list is not a problem if you use it deliberately. Remove games you no longer want, and keep separate mental groups for games you would buy at any discount, games that need a deep discount, and games you are merely curious about. The Store does not need to know those categories for the alerts to work, but your own threshold makes the notification easier to act on.
What wishlist updates can cover
Sony says wishlist updates can flag discounts or price reductions. The same feature can notify you when a wishlisted game joins the PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium catalog. That makes the wishlist useful for two different decisions: buy the game at the current Store price, or wait to see whether catalog access becomes available.

2. Turn on the alerts you will actually see
PS5 settings path
On the console, go to Settings → Notifications → Wishlist Updates and enable the wishlist-update popups. This is the setting path documented by Sony for PS5. If you have never changed notification preferences, check this menu before assuming the wishlist is not working.
Sony’s guide also notes that PS5 popups for games, videos and broadcasts are off by default. A disabled general popup preference can therefore make a wishlist change easy to miss even when the game is correctly saved. Review the notification options rather than repeatedly removing and re-adding the same title.

PlayStation App settings path
In the official mobile app, open Settings → Push Notifications → Accounts and Offers, then turn on Wishlist Updates. The app supports both iOS and Android. Your phone’s operating-system notification permission is a separate layer: if the app is allowed to send alerts but the phone blocks its notifications, the Store setting alone cannot make a banner appear.
What an alert does and does not promise
The documented behavior is automatic notification of a wishlist discount, price reduction or qualifying catalog addition. No source specifies that every alert arrives instantly, at a particular hour, or before a promotion has already ended. Use the alert as a prompt to open the Store, where you can verify the current offer and its end date.
3. Check the live PlayStation Store Deals page
Why the Deals page is the final check
The official PlayStation Store Deals page lists current sales and promotions. It reflects the Store region associated with your account, so open the page while signed into the account you will use for the purchase. A notification can point you toward a discount, but the Deals page and the game’s product page show the price that applies to that account at that moment.
Before selecting Buy, check four details:
- Region: confirm that the Store country or currency matches the account that will play or own the game.
- Edition: compare the standard, deluxe, ultimate or bundle listing you actually intend to purchase.
- Price: read the current amount shown on the live Store page, not an old notification or cached tracker entry.
- End date: note when the offer expires; a sale can end before you return to it.

These dates are not a promise of a permanent annual schedule. Sony can change a promotion, and a game can be excluded even while a broader sale is running. The current Store listing is more reliable than a calendar prediction.
4. Add an independent tracker when you need more context
What a tracker can add
PlatPrices describes independent PS4 and PS5 price tracking with sale history, PlayStation Plus deal information, wishlist alerts and coverage across more than 40 regions. That extra context is useful when you want to know whether today’s discount looks unusual, when a game has previously been cheaper, or how an offer differs between supported regions.
A tracker is optional. The official wishlist already covers the basic “tell me when this changes” use case, and the Deals page is the authoritative place to buy. Consider a third-party service when historical context changes your decision, when you monitor several regional storefronts, or when you want a separate watchlist interface.
Understand the freshness limitation
PlatPrices states that it is independent of Sony or PlayStation and warns that automatically collected prices may be out of date. A historical chart or alert can therefore be useful evidence without being a current quote. Open the live Store page after following any tracker alert and confirm the price, currency, edition and end date there.
A safe tracker workflow
- Save the same game in the official PlayStation wishlist first.
- Use the tracker to review prior sale prices, supported regions or PlayStation Plus information.
- When an alert arrives, open the corresponding Store listing in your own account region.
- Compare the displayed edition and price with the tracker record.
- Buy only after the live Store page confirms that the offer is still active and suitable for your account.
Do not treat a tracker’s lowest historical price as a target Sony must repeat. It is a record of an earlier listing, not a guaranteed future promotion.

5. Decide whether to buy on sale or wait for PlayStation Plus
When buying during a sale is the clearer choice
Buying during a sale gives you ownership of the digital license associated with the account, subject to the Store’s terms, rather than access tied to a subscription catalog. It can make sense when you expect to play the game after a subscription ends, want to keep it in your library, or have a specific discount that fits your budget.
When waiting for catalog access may make sense
Sony says wishlist updates can notify you when a game enters the PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium catalog. Waiting is reasonable when you are happy to play during the period in which your subscription remains active, the title is actually listed for your region and tier, and you have several catalog games you expect to use.
There is no universal subscription saving. The value depends on your region’s terms, the current catalog, how long you would subscribe and how many included games you would play. A catalog addition is not the same as permanent ownership, so decide whether temporary access meets your plan before skipping a sale.

- How soon will you play? Buy when a sale meets your threshold and you want to start now; wait when the game is a low-priority backlog item.
- Do you need access after a subscription ends? If yes, ownership may matter more than catalog access.
- Is the game confirmed in your catalog? Check the current Extra or Premium listing for your Store region and tier; do not rely on a rumor or an old tracker entry.
- Will you use other catalog games? Count the games you genuinely expect to play, not the theoretical size of the catalog.

No single option is universally best. The official tools are sufficient for most players who need a reminder and a current price. The independent option earns its place when historical or multi-region information changes your decision.

One-time setup
- Open the Store page for each game you are considering and select the heart icon.
- On PS5, open Settings → Notifications → Wishlist Updates and enable popups.
- In the PlayStation App, open Settings → Push Notifications → Accounts and Offers → Wishlist Updates and enable push notifications.
- If you use a tracker, add only the games you would realistically buy; a smaller list produces fewer irrelevant alerts.
When an alert arrives
- Open the game’s live Store page rather than buying directly from the notification.
- Confirm your account region, edition, price and offer end date.
- Check whether the same title is currently listed in your Extra or Premium catalog before paying.
- Buy if the verified offer meets your personal threshold; otherwise leave the game wishlisted.
A monthly review
Once a month, sort the PS5 wishlist by date added or price and remove games that no longer interest you. Open the Deals page during a promotion you care about, but do not assume every wishlist item is included. If you use an independent tracker, review its historical data only for games you are still willing to play; old charts are not a reason to buy a game you no longer want.

Read the listing carefully before checkout
Digital game pages can show several products for one title. A lower price may refer to a different edition, a cross-generation entitlement, downloadable content or a bundle rather than the complete game you expected. Read the product name and included content on the live page.
Regional differences also affect more than currency. A promotion available in one Store country may be absent, have different dates or show a different catalog status elsewhere. If you maintain accounts in multiple regions, check the account that will own the purchase and avoid assuming that a price seen in another region can be applied to your normal account.

Troubleshooting missing or confusing alerts
The game is wishlisted but no notification appears
- On PS5, revisit Settings → Notifications → Wishlist Updates and confirm popups are enabled.
- In the PlayStation App, revisit Settings → Push Notifications → Accounts and Offers → Wishlist Updates.
- Check the phone’s operating-system notification permission for the PlayStation App.
- Open the wishlist and confirm that the correct product page, rather than a similarly named edition or add-on, is saved.
- Check the Store manually; an alert system is not documented as instant or guaranteed for every promotion.
The tracker price does not match the Store
Prefer the live Store price. Automatic collection can lag behind a sale change, and the tracker may represent another region, edition or currency. Compare the product name, region and timestamp context before deciding that either listing is wrong.
A game appears in a PlayStation Plus catalog
Confirm that the title is available in your country and in the Extra or Premium tier you hold. Then decide whether temporary subscription access fits your expected play better than buying the discounted copy. Catalog availability can change, so do not treat access as permanent ownership.
What this method can and cannot guarantee
This system improves timing and reduces the chance of paying the first price you see, but it cannot guarantee a particular discount, a repeat of a past low price, an alert before an offer ends or identical promotions in every region. Sony’s official wishlist and Deals page provide the current account-specific path; an independent tracker provides additional context with a stated freshness caveat. Keeping those roles separate is what makes the routine reliable: alerts tell you to look, and the live Store listing tells you what is actually available.
