In YouTube Studio, open Create > Go Live, then choose Manage > Schedule stream. Create a new event or reuse settings, configure your encoder with the stream URL and key YouTube provides, start the encoder, check the preview, and click Go live. Scheduling creates an upcoming event; it does not guarantee uninterrupted broadcasting or a complete replay. YouTube says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.
Schedule the livestream in YouTube Studio
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live.
- Create the event. Open Manage > Schedule stream. Choose Reuse settings for a repeat event or Create new for a new setup.
- Set up the event. Add the title and other metadata, choose visibility, and review the stream options available for the event before saving. A scheduled stream can appear to viewers as upcoming; they can share its watch URL and request a notification.
- Copy the encoder details. In Live Control Room, find the stream URL and stream key and enter them in your encoder. The key authorizes the encoder to send video to your channel, so treat it like a password. If someone else gets it, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions and stream key guidance.
- Choose the ingestion protocol. YouTube documents RTMPS as RTMP sent over TLS/SSL. If you need encrypted ingestion, copy and use the RTMPS URL in Live Control Room; the URL shown by default may be an ordinary RTMP address. Confirm that your encoder supports the protocol you select. See YouTube’s RTMPS instructions.
- Start and verify the broadcast. Start the encoder, wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room, and check the video and audio. When ready, select Go live. When the event is finished, end it using the Live Control Room control and stop the encoder from sending content. YouTube’s steps are in its encoder setup instructions and streaming tips.
What changes when the goal is 24/7?
Scheduling is not continuous operation
A scheduled event gives viewers an upcoming page and gives you a planned start. It does not make a stream run indefinitely. A 24/7 broadcast also needs a source that keeps sending video, monitoring for problems, and a plan to recover if the encoder or connection stops.
Do not rely on YouTube for a complete 24/7 replay
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived. If a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. A single 24/7 broadcast therefore should not be treated as a guaranteed complete YouTube replay. Make a local recording if you need an archive, and check that the recording is growing and playable. Know the concurrency limits
YouTube Help states a maximum of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key, with both limits applying at the same time. These are limits on simultaneous streams, not on how long one stream can run. See YouTube’s live streaming limits.

Prepare and monitor the stream
YouTube’s streaming tips recommend preparing ahead: set up at least two hours before an event and start the encoder at least 15 minutes before it. Those are preparation recommendations, not a promise that a 24/7 stream will stay uninterrupted.
- Preview the feed before going live; check both picture and sound.
- Monitor video and audio quality throughout the broadcast, not only at launch.
- Test backup-encoder failover before relying on it.
- Check that the local archive file is intact and continues to grow.
- Check access from the channel page, the watch page, and a mobile device.
These checks follow YouTube’s encoder streaming tips and preparation guidance. YouTube’s guidance says professional-grade hardware encoders are recommended for higher-production-value events. Software encoding is also an option; choose hardware when the production setup calls for a separate, professional-grade encoding device, not because hardware alone guarantees reliability.
