To rerun a gaming tournament match on YouTube Live every day, schedule a separate YouTube broadcast for each date and use an encoder or playout system to send the recording at showtime. YouTube Studio’s documented scheduling flow does not provide a daily recurrence switch: scheduling creates the event, but it does not play the video. For occasional reruns, create each event in Studio and start the feed manually; for recurring event creation, developers can use YouTube’s Live Streaming API, alongside a separate playback system.
Before you schedule: check channel access and rebroadcast rights
- Your channel must be verified, at least 16 years old for livestreaming, and free of a live-streaming restriction within the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours. These are YouTube Help requirements checked October 3, 2026: Get started with live streaming.
- Confirm that you have permission to retransmit the match repeatedly. Rights may apply separately to game footage, the tournament production, player feeds, commentary, graphics, and music. YouTube’s ability to accept a stream or archive it does not grant reuse rights; permission for a particular tournament cannot be assumed.
- Decide whether each day should have its own watch-page URL and refreshed title, description, privacy, category, and thumbnail. A scheduled broadcast is a distinct event, even when you reuse encoder settings.
Schedule each daily rerun manually in YouTube Studio
- Create the event. In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live > Manage > Schedule Stream. Choose Create new for a new broadcast or Reuse settings to carry forward prior event settings. Set the title, description, privacy, category, thumbnail, and scheduled start time for that date. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- Configure an encoder or playout system. Choose YouTube in the encoder if it is available. Otherwise, enter YouTube’s stream URL and stream key in the encoder’s stream settings. Set the video source to the match recording or to the output of a playout system that can play it. The scheduled event supplies the timing and watch page; it does not retrieve or play your recording.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: it allows an encoder to send a feed to your channel. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder. Reusing event settings may also reuse the prior key; check which key the encoder is configured to use. YouTube explains the key and related settings in Manage live stream settings.
- Check the recording and feed before the event. Play the file from beginning to end, confirm its audio, and verify that the encoder sends a stable feed. YouTube recommends setting up at least two hours ahead, starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled event, checking the Live Control Room preview and watch page, and monitoring the live audio and video. - Start the broadcast. Start the encoder, wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room, then click Go live. Monitor playback during the match. When it is over, stop sending content and end the stream.
- Repeat for the next date. Schedule another broadcast and review its date-specific details. You can reuse encoder configuration, but the next broadcast still needs its own correct event timing and feed.
YouTube says encoder streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. If you rely on that automatic archive behavior, keep the stream under 12 hours. The limit and steps above are from YouTube Help, checked October 3, 2026: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Automate recurring event creation with the Live Streaming API
The API can create and manage separate broadcast events, but it is not a video-file playback scheduler. Google’s documentation describes recurring events as separate broadcasts bound to a reusable stream: each event needs its own scheduled start and details, while a stream resource can be reused. An encoder or playout process must still start and send the intended recording at the right time.
- Create a broadcast for the date. Use the API to create a broadcast with its scheduled start, title and privacy status. Broadcast creation requires channel authorization and live-stream permissions, and the API documents limits and errors for the operation. Consult LiveBroadcasts: insert for required fields.
- Bind it to a stream. Associate the broadcast with the stream resource carrying your encoder’s feed. The broadcast is the event and watch page; the stream is the inbound audio/video feed. Google explains the distinction and recurring-event model in Understanding Broadcasts and Streams and the broadcasts-and-streams implementation guide.
- Start playback and monitor it. Separately trigger your encoder or playout system to send the match recording. Confirm the feed reaches the event and establish how an operator or monitoring system will handle a failed start or interruption.
Automating event creation does not, by itself, verify a third-party playout product or guarantee unattended playback. The tools and process used to play the file, monitor the feed, and recover from failures must be chosen and checked separately. Choose the workflow that fits your operation

Choose based on how much operator time you can provide, whether the recording can play reliably, whether each day needs a separate watch page, and how you will monitor and recover the feed. Get rights clearance before building a repeat schedule.
Troubleshoot common scheduling and playback problems
- The event exists, but the recording does not play: the schedule creates the broadcast, not playback. Configure an encoder or playout process with the recording as its source and start it at the event time.
- No preview appears in Live Control Room: check that the encoder is running, is sending to the stream URL associated with the event, and is using the correct stream key. If you reused settings, verify the key rather than assuming it changed.
- The broadcast is scheduled but does not go live: after starting the encoder and seeing the preview, click Go live in Live Control Room. A scheduled start time alone is not the same as sending a feed and starting the broadcast.
- The first event cannot be enabled in time: check channel verification and live-stream eligibility early. Initial activation may take up to 24 hours.
- The archive is missing or incomplete: check the stream’s duration. YouTube documents automatic archiving for encoder streams under 12 hours, not a guarantee for longer streams.
- The stream key may have been exposed: reset it in YouTube Studio and replace it in the encoder before sending another feed.
