For a continuous, ordered rotation of recorded Hindi podcast episodes, add them to an OBS VLC Video source as a playlist. Turn off Shuffle Playlist to keep the order and turn on Loop Playlist only if the episodes should repeat after the last file. Schedule the YouTube broadcast separately in YouTube Studio: scheduling the event does not set the order or clock times for files in OBS.
What “schedule a rotation” means in OBS
An OBS VLC playlist plays files one after another; it does not, by itself, assign each episode a start time such as 6 p.m. or 7 p.m. YouTube’s scheduled stream feature sets up the public broadcast event, not the local playback sequence. For exact wall-clock episode changes, you need a separately verified automation method or playback scheduler.
| Approach | What triggers the next episode | Best for | What is established |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ordered VLC playlist in OBS | The current file finishes and the next playlist item plays. | Back-to-back episodes in a continuous stream. | OBS documents playlist order, shuffle, and loop controls in its Media Sources guide. |
| Clock-triggered changes | A specified time or automation event triggers a file or scene change. | Episodes advertised to start at particular times or separated by scheduled segments. | A current plugin release, setup, and reliability are not established here. Verify current plugin documentation and test before relying on it. |
A community discussion asks about automatically playing a media file on a set schedule, but it is not enough to confirm a current plugin’s compatibility or exact setup. See the OBS forum discussion as a pointer, not a production recipe.
Prepare the Hindi podcast files
Choose and order the episodes
- Put the approved episode files in a stable folder and keep a backup.
- Name them with sortable numbers, such as 01-intro.mp4, 02-episode.mp4, so the intended sequence is easy to check.
- OBS lists support for common formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV. Confirm that your files play correctly before scheduling a public event.
- Check that you have the necessary rights for every voice recording, music track, clip, and other included material. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility for the required rights, including music licensing rights, on the content provider.
Check channel eligibility
YouTube’s live streaming guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days. Check eligibility for the channel you will actually use before depending on a scheduled event.

Build and test the OBS playlist
- Install VLC. OBS requires VLC for the VLC Video source. For 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. See OBS’s Media Sources guide.
- Create a scene. In OBS, add a scene for the podcast rotation. Add any artwork, captions, camera, or other overlays you want included. Scenes and sources determine the visual elements sent to the broadcast; OBS explains these in its Sources Guide and Studio Overview Guide.
- Add the playlist source. Add a VLC Video source and load the episode files in their intended order. A standard Media Source is built around a local media item; VLC Video supports a multi-file playlist.
- Set order and repetition. Leave Shuffle Playlist off if episodes must play in sequence. Enable Loop Playlist only if playback should restart from the first episode after the final item.
- Set visibility behavior. Decide whether playback should stop, pause, or continue when the VLC source is hidden by a scene change, then set its visibility behavior accordingly.
- Check audio. Review the VLC source’s audio track setting and watch OBS audio meters while a file plays. Listen to the dialogue yourself; meters cannot establish whether Hindi speech is clear or intelligible.
- Run a private test. Play through transitions and, if looping, the end-to-start transition. Confirm the displayed episode, audio, and overlays before using the scene for a public event.
Schedule the YouTube Live event and connect OBS
- In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go live → Manage → Schedule stream. Reuse a prior stream’s settings or create a new stream. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes scheduled streams and the Live Control Room.
- Set the event details and schedule. A scheduled event can be promoted and viewers may request a reminder; it does not configure the order of the local OBS playlist.
- In OBS, select YouTube if available, or enter the YouTube server URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room. Treat the key as a credential: YouTube describes stream keys as the stream’s “password and address,” so do not show or publish it in screenshots or instructions. See Manage live stream settings.
- Start sending the OBS feed and inspect the Live Control Room preview. Confirm the right scene and episode are showing and that audio is present.
- When ready for the public event, click Go live for the scheduled broadcast in Live Control Room. Starting the encoder sends data; it may not itself start the public event.
- Monitor the watch page, audio, and video during the broadcast. To end cleanly, end the event through Live Control Room before stopping the encoder, following YouTube’s operational guidance.
YouTube advises setting up the encoder at least 2 hours before a live stream and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled event so there is time to preview and resolve issues. These are YouTube’s operational timing recommendations, not a guarantee that an event will start successfully. Check its live streaming tips for current advice.
Common problems and fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| VLC Video is missing from the source choices. | VLC is not installed, or its architecture does not match OBS. | Install VLC; for 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC, then reopen OBS. |
| Episodes play in an unexpected order. | Playlist order differs from the intended sequence, or shuffle is enabled. | Inspect the loaded list and turn off Shuffle Playlist. |
| The rotation stops after the last episode. | Looping is disabled. | Enable Loop Playlist if the intended schedule repeats; otherwise stopping is expected. |
| Playback behaves unexpectedly after changing scenes. | The source’s hidden-state behavior does not match the intended operation. | Set whether the VLC source stops, pauses, or continues while hidden, then test the scene transition. |
| YouTube preview is blank or does not show the intended episode. | OBS may not be sending the expected scene or source, or the encoder has not connected. | Check the OBS scene and source, confirm encoder connection, then inspect the Live Control Room preview before going live. |
| The preview is visible, but the public event has not started. | The scheduled broadcast still requires an operator action. | Use Go live in Live Control Room when the public event should begin. |
| Hindi dialogue is too quiet, missing, or unclear. | Wrong audio track, routing, or source levels may be involved. | Check the VLC audio track setting and OBS meters, then listen to the stream preview with headphones. |
| An episode cannot be scheduled for an exact clock time using the playlist alone. | A playlist advances when files finish; it is not a wall-clock scheduler. | Use a currently documented and tested automation method or playback scheduler if fixed-time changes are essential. |
| You cannot start the event. | The channel may not meet YouTube live-stream eligibility requirements or may have a restriction. | Check channel verification and current Live Control Room eligibility before the planned start. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is to keep uploaded podcast episodes playing as a 24/7 YouTube stream without leaving a home computer on, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload the recording or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed.
