You can relay a rights-cleared Tamil podcast archive to YouTube Live from a VPS by creating a stream in YouTube Studio, configuring an encoder with YouTube’s stream URL and key, and keeping a looping playlist and encoder process running on the server. YouTube does not require a VPS or promise one uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast; the VPS, looping, and restart setup are your operational choices. Also plan for YouTube’s archive limit: streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, but a single complete archive is not promised for longer sessions.
Before you start
Check channel eligibility
YouTube’s live-streaming guidance requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. The minimum age to livestream is 16. Check the channel’s live status before building the server workflow: eligibility problems cannot be fixed by changing VPS settings. YouTube: Get started with live streaming
Prepare the archive and clear the rights
Make a playlist of the episodes in the order you want them to play, and decide what viewers should see while they listen: a static image, episode-specific artwork, or other visuals. Confirm you have the necessary rights for the full package, including episode audio, music beds, guest-contributed material, clips, cover art, and looping visuals. Rights to one component do not establish rights to everything in an episode.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can replace the stream with a placeholder and trigger a warning; if the matched content remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also end it. Even licensed material may cause interruption unless the rights holder adds your channel to its Content ID allowlist. If a completed stream is archived, it can also receive Content ID claims afterward. YouTube: Copyright issues with live streams

Create the YouTube stream
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room.
- Create a stream or select the stream you intend to use. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown by YouTube.
- Enter those values in your encoder’s destination or streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to publish to that stream, so do not put it in public scripts, screenshots, or logs.
- Use the URL supplied by Studio rather than assembling an ingestion endpoint yourself. If configuring RTMPS at API level, Google specifies the RTMPS protocol, a valid YouTube ingestion endpoint, port 443, and a hostname for TLS SNI authentication.
YouTube’s encoder setup documents the Studio-to-encoder flow; it does not require a VPS or a particular encoder application. YouTube: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder · Google for Developers: Delivering Live YouTube Content via RTMPS
Set the encoder’s video and audio settings
YouTube’s current encoder guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS with H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video, up to 60 fps; AAC or MP3 audio; and constant bitrate (CBR). YouTube recommends RTMPS to encrypt the connection in transit, and recommends a two-second keyframe interval, with four seconds as the maximum. For stereo audio, its advanced-settings guidance recommends 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps. These are platform specifications and recommendations, not a performance test of your VPS. | Setting | YouTube guidance | How to apply it |
|---|---|---|
| Video codec | H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 | Choose a codec supported by your encoder and its available hardware or software path. |
| Frame rate | Up to 60 fps | A podcast with a static visual may not need a high frame rate; match the content and verify the encoder’s output. |
| Rate control | CBR | Set constant bitrate in the encoder rather than variable bitrate. |
| Keyframes | Two seconds recommended; no more than four seconds | Set the GOP/keyframe interval accordingly. If expressed in frames, calculate from the chosen frame rate. |
| Stereo audio | 44.1 kHz sample rate; 128 Kbps | Use these recommendations for stereo output where supported; ensure the episode audio remains intelligible and unclipped. |
| H.264 video bitrate examples | 720p30: 8 Mbps; 1080p30: 14 Mbps | These are YouTube’s recommended rates for those H.264 profiles, not mandatory minimums for every static podcast stream. |
A static podcast image may make a lower resolution practical, but do not assume a lower bitrate is appropriate without checking YouTube’s current guidance and confirming the live stream is healthy. The cited bitrate figures are recommendations for the stated H.264 resolutions and frame rates, not measurements of this server or guarantees of quality.
Run the playlist and encoder on the VPS
The VPS provides a remote machine to host the encoder; it does not automatically make a stream reliable. A typical unattended design has the encoder read a playlist in sequence or loop it, sends the output to YouTube, and uses a process supervisor to restart a process that exits. FFmpeg and systemd are possible implementation choices, not YouTube requirements. No particular FFmpeg command, VPS size, CPU/RAM allocation, bandwidth margin, provider price, or restart guarantee is established by YouTube’s encoder documentation.

- Choose how to process media. Stream-copying avoids re-encoding when the source files already match the output settings and the playlist is compatible. Re-encoding gives you control over output resolution, codec, frame rate, and bitrate, but uses VPS CPU or supported hardware-encoding capacity. Size the server for the method you choose and check observed load during a test.
- Build and validate the playlist. Confirm file paths, ordering, and transitions; make sure the chosen player can advance through the whole playlist and return to the beginning. Verify whether your visual stays static or changes between episodes, and that audio does not unexpectedly go silent between files.
- Keep credentials private. Store the stream key in a protected configuration or secret store rather than embedding it in a public command example or repository. Restrict access to the server and configuration.
- Supervise the process. Configure a service manager or equivalent to start the encoder after a restart and restart it if it exits. A restart policy only handles process failure; it does not itself prove that the VPS has recovered, the network is available, or YouTube is receiving a healthy stream.
- Monitor logs and stream health. Check encoder output for missing files, decode errors, dropped frames, and connection failures. Watch YouTube’s stream-health status, particularly after changing media or settings.
YouTube recommends testing with audio and moving video similar to the intended stream, then monitoring stream health during operation. A test catches more than a configuration check: it can reveal an incompatible file, silent audio, an incorrect key, or a bitrate the VPS cannot sustain.
Test before leaving it unattended
- Start a private or otherwise appropriate test broadcast from the VPS using the intended playlist and encoder settings.
- Confirm YouTube receives the stream and reports healthy status in Live Control Room.
- Listen for clean audio and check the visual output, episode transitions, and playlist loop behavior.
- Observe server load and logs through at least one representative section of the archive. If re-encoding, verify the VPS can maintain the chosen output under sustained load.
- Test the recovery path deliberately in a controlled test: confirm the supervisor restarts an exited process and that the encoder can reconnect. Do not assume this guarantees recovery from every YouTube-side or network interruption.
Plan for YouTube’s 12-hour archive boundary
YouTube says, “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” The guidance does not promise automatic archiving of one complete stream that runs longer than 12 hours. If keeping a YouTube replay matters, schedule separate sessions shorter than 12 hours and verify the resulting archives in Studio. A session boundary means the live broadcast is not one continuous session; viewers may experience an interruption when the next session starts. YouTube: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder

Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive video | Wrong stream URL or key, an encoder that has not started sending, or a connection issue | Compare the encoder destination with the current values in Live Control Room; check process logs and network connectivity. Rotate the stream key if it may have been exposed. |
| Stream health is poor or frames drop | Output settings or sustained server/network capacity do not match the workload | Inspect encoder logs, CPU or hardware-encoder load, and network stability. Check that the configured bitrate and codec match the intended output and YouTube’s current guidance. |
| Audio is silent, distorted, or cuts between episodes | Source-file audio differences, unsupported settings, or playlist transitions | Test the individual files and transitions, verify stereo sample-rate and bitrate settings, and monitor a representative section before unattended operation. |
| The playlist stops or does not loop | Playlist/player configuration, missing file paths, or an exited encoder process | Validate every path and the loop behavior locally or in a short test, then inspect the process supervisor and encoder logs. |
| Broadcast is interrupted for a copyright match | Third-party audio or visuals have been detected, or the channel is not allowlisted for licensed material | Review the matched material and rights for the entire episode package; contact the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting where applicable. Do not treat a license as proof that automated interruption cannot occur. |
| No single replay contains the full continuous broadcast | The stream ran longer than YouTube’s stated automatic-archive window | Use separately scheduled sessions under 12 hours if automatic replay availability is important, and account for the session break. |
Choose between a VPS and a hosted option
A VPS gives you direct control of the playlist, encoder, and stream settings, but you also own server configuration, monitoring, and recovery design. A hosted prerecorded-streaming service can reduce server administration, but compare current playlist controls, stream settings, outage recovery, cost, archive behavior, and rights responsibilities before switching. YouTube lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for continuous streaming of prerecorded video; its listing is not a verification of a particular feature set, price, uptime, or commercial relationship.
