You can schedule the YouTube event in Studio, but the schedule does not restart your PC’s playlist or encoder. Those are separate tasks: YouTube creates the event and watch page; your local encoder and operating system must start playback and reconnect after a reboot. Configure and test that recovery on the actual PC before relying on it.
What YouTube scheduling does—and what it does not
A scheduled event gives viewers a watch page they can share and lets them set reminders. When the broadcast is due, an encoder still has to send the video and audio to YouTube; scheduling alone does not start a feed. YouTube’s published setup does not promise to relaunch local playlist playback, restart an encoder after a PC reboot, or resume a playlist at its previous position. YouTube’s scheduled-stream instructions describe the event workflow, not PC startup automation.
Plan for two independent pieces: the event in YouTube Studio, and the playlist-plus-encoder process on the PC. Exactly how to launch a playlist, sign in automatically, or restart an encoder depends on the encoder and operating system you use; there is no universal YouTube setting for this.
Schedule the YouTube event
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube says live streaming requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Review the current YouTube live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Open the scheduling workflow. In YouTube Studio, choose Create > Go Live, then Manage > Schedule stream. Reuse settings from a previous event or create a new stream.
- Set the event details. Choose the title, privacy, and scheduled date and time. Once created, share the event URL so viewers can visit the watch page and set reminders. See YouTube’s instructions for scheduling a live stream for the current interface.
- Allow setup time. YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before the event and starting it at least 15 minutes ahead. Use that lead time to confirm the feed reaches Live Control Room and check its preview.
Connect the encoder with a stream key
In Live Control Room, get the stream URL and stream key, then enter them in the encoder you plan to run on the PC. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Treat the key as a credential: do not share it publicly or include it in screenshots or scripts others can access. If you reset or replace a key, update the encoder with the replacement. An encoder still using the old key will not connect with the new credential. Before the event, start the encoder and check that Live Control Room receives the expected video and audio. YouTube advises checking the preview before clicking Start Streaming; follow the on-screen controls for the event and encoder workflow you are using.
Set up and test recovery after a reboot
YouTube’s instructions cover the scheduled event and encoder connection, not how to configure your particular PC to relaunch software or restore playlist position. Use the startup and recovery options documented for your encoder and operating system. Do not assume that the playlist will open automatically, start at the desired item, or resume where it stopped.

- Configure local startup. Set up the playlist and encoder to launch after reboot using the controls available in your chosen software and operating system. Confirm any required sign-in, media-file access, and network connection are available to the process.
- Reboot the PC before the broadcast. Test on the machine and network you will actually use; a successful manual start does not prove automatic recovery works.
- Verify each link in the chain. Check separately that the PC reaches the state your setup requires, the playlist opens at the intended point, the encoder reconnects and sends video/audio, and the scheduled event shows a preview and can be taken live.
- Test encoder failover separately. If you have a backup encoder configured, YouTube recommends stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet cable and confirming the player rolls over to the backup. This checks encoder failover; it does not prove that a reboot restores playlist playback.
- Monitor the live feed. Watch stream health and confirm any local archive is growing as expected. Keep an eye on the preview and audio/video after reconnecting rather than assuming the stream is healthy because the encoder process is open.

What to check when recovery fails
- The event page exists, but viewers see no live feed: scheduling creates the watch page, not the encoder feed. Start the encoder and confirm the event receives its signal in Live Control Room.
- The encoder will not connect after a key change: update its saved stream key and URL from Live Control Room. A reset key invalidates the old credential.
- The PC reboots but the playlist does not start: check the local startup configuration and whether the playlist’s files and required application are available to the account or process that starts at boot. YouTube does not configure this behavior for you.
- The encoder starts but the wrong video or playlist position appears: correct the local playlist or playback startup behavior, then repeat the reboot test. YouTube’s scheduled event does not guarantee playback-position recovery.
- The stream is connected but has no expected audio or video: inspect the encoder’s selected sources and confirm the preview in Live Control Room before taking the event live.
- The primary feed drops: verify the configured backup encoder with YouTube’s failover test. A successful failover test is not a substitute for testing full PC reboot recovery.
Archive duration to account for
YouTube says encoder-based streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. That is an archive behavior, not a recovery mechanism: it does not restart the PC, encoder, or playlist after a reboot. See YouTube’s encoder streaming guide for the current guidance.

Will a scheduled YouTube event automatically go live after my PC reboots?
No. The event and the local playlist-and-encoder startup are separate. The PC setup must reconnect and send the feed.

Does YouTube guarantee that a playlist resumes at the same position after restart?
No such guarantee appears in YouTube’s published scheduled-stream workflow. Test the behavior of your chosen playlist and encoder setup locally.
