Schedule the event in YouTube Studio, prepare a compatible FFmpeg playlist, then send its feed to the event’s stream URL and key. Starting FFmpeg does not publish the scheduled event by itself: preview the incoming feed in YouTube Live Control Room and click Go live there.
Before you schedule: check channel eligibility
YouTube says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days; its current help page also sets a minimum age of 16 for livestreaming. Confirm live streaming is enabled on the account before preparing the event. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
Schedule the YouTube event
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live → Manage → Schedule stream.
- Choose whether to reuse prior settings or create a new stream.
- Set the event title, description, audience, privacy and scheduled start time, then save.
- Use the scheduled watch page to promote the event and share its URL. Scheduling makes the page available for viewers to set reminders; it does not start the encoder or begin playback.

Prepare and test the FFmpeg playlist
Use the concat demuxer only with compatible files
FFmpeg’s concat demuxer reads a text script containing one file directive per media file and processes the entries in order. For reliable concatenation, the files need the same streams, codecs and time base. Paths and escaping depend on your operating system and FFmpeg build, so do not assume one script will work unchanged everywhere.

Incorrect duration metadata can cause timestamp problems, gaps or artifacts. Before the event, inspect the files and play the entire sequence locally, including the transition from the final file back to the first if the playlist is meant to repeat indefinitely. Check the installed FFmpeg version’s documentation and test the looping behavior rather than relying on an untested command. If files have different stream layouts or codecs, preprocessing or a different playlist controller may be needed.

Decide how Indian-language text reaches viewers
First identify whether each video contains an Indian-language audio track, a separate caption or subtitle track, or text burned into the picture. These are different delivery paths; do not assume that scheduling or sending an FFmpeg feed automatically provides captions or correct script rendering.
- Burned-in text: travels as part of the picture and viewers normally cannot turn it off. Inspect the actual video for glyph shaping, diacritics, line breaks, legibility and timing.
- Caption track: can be toggled where supported, but test the exact language, encoding, timing and playback path on the event. The retrieved YouTube guidance does not establish that every Indian language is available for automatic live captions.
- Audio: listen to the actual stream preview and check intelligibility, levels and transitions between files.
YouTube documents one live-caption method using embedded EIA 608/CEA 708 captions. It says that method supports up to four language tracks in the standard, while YouTube currently supports one track for that method. This does not establish support for a particular Indian language or rule out other caption routes. See YouTube’s live caption requirements.

Connect FFmpeg to the scheduled event
- Open the scheduled event in YouTube Live Control Room and find the encoder server URL and stream key.
- Configure FFmpeg to send a format and protocol accepted for that stream key. The exact command depends on the source files, installed FFmpeg build, operating system and output settings; test the complete path before broadcast.
- Keep the stream key private. It is a credential that tells the encoder where to send the feed and lets YouTube accept it. Do not expose it in a public script, repository, screenshot or log excerpt. If exposed, reset it in Live Control Room. See Manage live stream settings.
- Start FFmpeg to send the feed. Wait for the event preview in Live Control Room, check the picture and audio, then click Go live to publish the scheduled event.
Preflight the connection and event
- Measure upload capacity. YouTube recommends reserving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the total stream bitrate. Account for other people and devices using the connection, as well as any additional stream, and test under conditions similar to the event. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
- Allow setup time. YouTube recommends setting up encoders at least two hours ahead and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled event. Use the lead time to confirm that the preview appears and the feed is stable.
- Check the viewer-facing event. Verify access from the channel and watch pages, then monitor stream health in Live Control Room.
- Test the full playlist. Confirm every file transition, the intended Indian-language audio or text, and any loop from the last file to the first before relying on unattended playback.
Choose latency for the event, not by default
YouTube defines latency as the delay between capture and playback. Lower latency may increase buffering, so use it when interaction makes delay important and test stability for the audience’s network conditions. For a prerecorded playlist with little or no live interaction, stability may matter more than reducing delay. The setting is described in YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.
What to expect from the archive
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a continuous playlist running longer than that will be archived in full under this rule; plan recording and preservation separately if you need a complete copy. See YouTube’s encoder streaming guidance.

Troubleshoot common failures
