How to Schedule Recurring YouTube Livestreams from Prerecorded Videos

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Scheduling a YouTube livestream creates an upcoming event; it does not make a prerecorded video play automatically. To broadcast a video at that event, you must also send it to YouTube through an encoder or use a cloud service that handles playback. For recurring, unattended playback, the service or encoder must support the repeat schedule you need.

What you need to schedule a prerecorded YouTube livestream

  • A YouTube channel eligible to livestream. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
  • An upcoming live event in YouTube Studio, with a title, start time, privacy setting, and other event details.
  • A live feed carrying the prerecorded video. With a self-managed encoder, that means a computer or other encoder source that sends video and audio to YouTube. A scheduled event alone does not supply that feed.

YouTube’s standard encoder connection uses the stream URL and stream key provided for the event. An encoder or cloud service must be configured to send the prerecorded content to that destination.

How to schedule a prerecorded video as a YouTube livestream

  1. Confirm livestream access. Verify the channel and check that it meets YouTube’s channel requirements before building the event.
  2. Create the event. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live → Manage, then choose to schedule a stream. You can also reuse settings from a previous stream. The event page is where you set its title, description, visibility, and scheduled start time.
  3. Configure the prerecorded feed. In your encoder or streaming service, select the prerecorded video or playlist you want to play. For a conventional encoder, enter the stream URL and stream key shown by YouTube in the encoder’s stream settings. Keep the key private: anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your event.
  4. Choose event details and share the page. Set the event’s privacy and start time, then publish or share its upcoming page if you want viewers to find it in advance. YouTube says scheduled streams can appear in subscriber feeds, where viewers can select Notify me.
  5. Test the complete transmission. Start the encoder or service, check YouTube’s preview for picture and sound, and confirm the event is receiving the intended feed. YouTube advises setting up the encoder at least two hours ahead and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled event. Monitor the stream’s audio and video rather than assuming that a successful connection means playback is correct.
  6. Start and monitor the event. Follow the start behavior for your encoder and YouTube event type. Confirm that the live event is visible as intended and that the video continues playing.

How to repeat the event without rebuilding it

YouTube lets you reuse settings from a previous stream, copying its metadata, settings, and stream key while allowing you to edit the new stream. This can reduce setup work, but it is not the same as scheduling automatic prerecorded playback. For each new event, check the title, description, privacy, start time, stream key, and encoder configuration. Whether playback repeats unattended depends on the encoder or service you choose; YouTube’s general scheduling workflow does not promise a recurring playout schedule.

Choose a playback method for recurring streams

Self-managed encoder

Use an encoder when you want to control playback from your own computer or other encoder setup. It must remain able to send the feed for the duration of the broadcast, and you need to verify that it can repeat the video and follow your desired event schedule. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends RTMPS as a secure ingestion protocol and provides settings for encoder quality; use its current guidance when configuring a compatible encoder: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

Cloud playback service

A cloud service can host playback rather than relying on a computer at home. YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre as an option for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos. That listing establishes topical relevance, not the service’s current plans, supported formats, or ability to handle a particular recurring event pattern; confirm those details with the provider before choosing it.

StreamNeo

StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; it loops the content from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, playlists and 24/7 looping, and automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. Videos stream as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, with no re-encode and one flat price per slot. The first day is free with no card, with one free day per account. See StreamNeo for current details.

Copyright, reused content, and live-stream responsibility

Using prerecorded footage does not remove your responsibility for the rights to the video, music, and other material in the stream. Before scheduling, make sure you have the necessary permissions and that the content complies with YouTube’s policies. Repeating a video as a livestream also does not guarantee that the channel or content will qualify for monetization; check YouTube’s current monetization and reused-content rules for your circumstances. Do not treat a successful encoder connection as approval of the content.

Troubleshooting a scheduled prerecorded stream

  • The event page exists, but nothing plays: Scheduling creates the event, not the video feed. Start and configure the encoder or cloud service to send the prerecorded content.
  • YouTube does not receive the encoder: Check that the encoder uses the stream URL and key for the correct event, that the key was entered accurately, and that the encoder is sending rather than merely configured.
  • The preview has no sound or the wrong video: Check the encoder’s selected source and audio input, then preview the complete feed before the event begins.
  • The next event does not repeat automatically: Reusing YouTube settings copies event settings; it does not schedule video playback. Configure the encoder or service’s repeat and schedule functions, and verify that they support your intended pattern.
  • The feed stops during the broadcast: Check the encoder or service connection and monitor YouTube’s stream status. A local encoder depends on its computer and connection remaining available; a cloud service’s recovery behavior depends on that service.
  • The stream is blocked or restricted: Check channel livestream eligibility and review the rights and policy status of the video and audio. Changing the event schedule will not resolve a content restriction.
