To schedule a YouTube live stream, open YouTube Studio → Create → Go Live → Manage → Schedule Stream on a computer, or use Create → Live → Schedule for later in the YouTube app. Scheduling creates an upcoming event viewers can visit and may let them choose Notify me; it does not start the broadcast for you.
Before you schedule
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days for live streaming. You can stream by mobile, webcam, encoder, or console; the production method you choose affects setup, not the act of scheduling. YouTube’s live-streaming overview describes the available methods and general eligibility.
- Mobile: stream from the YouTube app. Mobile has additional eligibility requirements listed below.
- Webcam: use a computer with a webcam for a straightforward camera-and-microphone setup.
- Encoder: use streaming software or hardware when you need overlays or multiple audio and video devices.
You do not need a webcam, encoder, or other production equipment just to schedule an event. Select equipment based on how you plan to produce the broadcast.
Schedule a stream from a computer
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create → Go Live to open Live Control Room.
- Open Manage and select Schedule Stream.
- Choose Reuse settings to carry over settings from an earlier stream, or choose Create new.
- Enter the stream details, set the schedule, and complete the setup. You can edit settings while scheduling.
YouTube’s encoder scheduling instructions explain the computer workflow and how to connect an encoder. Scheduling prepares the event page; you still need to start the broadcast when it is time.

Schedule a stream from a phone or tablet
- In the YouTube app, tap Create → Live.
- Edit the stream details, choose Schedule for later, select a date, and complete the setup.
- When you are ready to start, return to Create → Live, tap the calendar, select the scheduled stream, then tap Go live.
Mobile live streaming requires at least 50 subscribers, channel verification, no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days, and live streaming turned on. YouTube says a first mobile live stream may take up to 24 hours to become available after activation. These mobile-specific requirements do not apply universally to webcam or encoder streams. What happens after scheduling
Your event has a shareable page. You can share its URL to promote it; YouTube says a scheduled stream may appear in subscribers’ feeds as upcoming, where viewers can select Notify me to receive a notification when it is about to begin. Appearance in feeds is not guaranteed for every subscriber. See YouTube’s guidance on scheduled streams.

Prepare an encoder stream before the event
For a stream sent through an encoder, YouTube recommends preparing the encoder at least two hours before the event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start. The event is not live merely because it is scheduled or because the encoder is running.
- Connect the encoder with the event’s stream URL and stream key, then start the encoder.
- Wait for the incoming preview in Live Control Room and check the video and audio.
- Confirm the event is accessible from the channel and watch pages, including on mobile devices.
- If you use failover, test that the backup takes over.
- When the preview and setup are ready, select Go live in Live Control Room.

Troubleshooting scheduling and launch problems
- You cannot start a mobile live stream: check the mobile-specific subscriber, verification, restriction, and activation requirements above. A first mobile live stream can take up to 24 hours to become available after activation.
- The event is scheduled, but viewers see no live broadcast: scheduling creates the event, not the broadcast. Start the encoder or select the scheduled event in the mobile app and tap Go live when ready.
- The encoder preview does not appear: confirm the encoder is running and connected with the stream URL and stream key for the scheduled event; allow time for the preview to arrive before selecting Go live.
- Viewers cannot find the event in their feed: feed appearance is not guaranteed. Share the event page URL directly so viewers can open it and request a reminder where available.
