Before linking a mobile game to Facebook, Google, Apple/Game Center, or another provider, secure the game account and the email and provider accounts tied to it. Then confirm you have the right game profile, check the game’s rules for linking and recovery, and use only its official linking flow. The exact steps and consequences vary by publisher; linking is not automatically reversible and does not guarantee against account loss.
Secure the accounts that linking depends on
Start with the email address used for the game or its recovery. HoYoverse recommends using an email you access regularly and enabling two-factor authentication (2FA); Supercell notes that a Supercell ID is only as secure as its registration email. If you cannot sign in to that inbox or its recovery methods, resolve that first.
Use a unique password for each account, including the email, game, and social or platform account. Enable available 2FA on those accounts and make sure you can reach their recovery options. HoYoverse recommends considering a password manager for complex passwords; Activision offers authenticator-app or SMS 2FA for its own account. These publisher-specific measures reduce exposure from reused or weak credentials, but do not guarantee an account cannot be compromised.
Do not share passwords or sign-in details with people or sites promising free currency or items. HoYoverse warns against unofficial top-up channels, Activision warns about suspicious free-item offers, and SEGA warns against unofficial game versions.

Check the profile and provider before linking
Confirm that the game is open to the profile whose progress you want to keep. Check which email, Apple or Google account, platform account, and social account are signed in on the device; it is easy to link the wrong identity if several accounts are available.
Before proceeding, consult the game’s official support pages for supported providers, cross-platform access, account merging, unlinking, and recovery. Do not assume two profiles can be merged or that a link can be undone. Riot, for example, says played Riot accounts cannot be merged and describes account-upgrade steps for some Game Center and Google sign-in users; that policy should not be generalized to other games.

Provider choice is a trade-off between recoverability and platform reach: consider whether you can keep access to the associated account and its recovery route, and which devices can use that sign-in. In HoYoverse’s documented examples, Game Center-linked access is iOS-only, while Google third-party login is available on Android or through its Account Center. Availability and rules can change, so check the current instructions for your particular game.
Use the official linking flow
- Open the game’s account settings or the publisher’s official account center. Avoid unsolicited messages or links that claim to link, verify, or recover your account.
- Read the game’s current instructions and confirm the displayed game profile and provider account are the ones you intend to connect.
- Complete the publisher’s prompts. Enter credentials or verification details only in the official game or publisher flow.
- Return to the game and check that it still opens the expected profile and that the linked provider appears in account settings, if the game displays it.
Keep IDs and codes private
Treat player IDs, account IDs, transfer or link codes, recovery codes, and verification codes as credentials. SEGA warns that its Sonic Forces transfer link code can let another person access the account: “Never share your Link Code with anyone else.” SEGA also says its account ID is sensitive. Supercell Support states: “Only give verification codes to Support during conversations you have initiated via the in-game Help and Support section.” The context matters: share sensitive information only through the game’s official support channel and only when requested during an interaction you started.

If something goes wrong
- Stop following incoming links or messages about the account.
- From the official settings for the relevant email, social, or platform account, change its password to a unique one and review its recovery methods and available 2FA.
- Contact the game publisher through its official support route. Follow its game-specific ownership verification and recovery process; Activision, for example, provides a dedicated hacked-account recovery route.
- Keep the game’s account ID available for official support if requested, but do not post it publicly or send it to an unsolicited contact.
SEGA recommends retaining the account ID to help with support recovery. The recovery steps and proof of ownership a publisher may request differ by game, so locate the official support page before you need it.
