Battle.net’s authenticator is an optional second verification step built into the official Battle.net mobile app for iOS and Android. After you connect the app to your account, a sign-in can require approval through a push notification or from inside the app, making a stolen password alone less useful to an attacker.
Setup is straightforward, but account security does not end when the authenticator is enabled. Use a unique password, protect the email account tied to Battle.net, treat unexpected approval requests as warnings, and keep Blizzard’s recovery options available in case your phone or authenticator becomes inaccessible.

What the Battle.net authenticator protects
An authenticator adds a second factor to the normal Battle.net sign-in. The first factor is your account credential, normally your email address and password. The second factor is approval from the Battle.net mobile app that you have connected to the account. Blizzard describes the feature as optional two-factor authentication intended to safeguard an account from unauthorized access.

This matters because passwords are routinely exposed through reused credentials, malware, fake login pages, and breached websites. An authenticator cannot repair a compromised computer or identify every phishing message, but it can block a login attempt that uses only a stolen password when the attacker cannot approve the request in your app.

The current feature is part of Blizzard’s Battle.net mobile app rather than a separate hardware device. Blizzard documents support for iOS and Android. The exact screens and wording can change, so follow the current prompts shown in the app instead of relying on an old screenshot or a third-party walkthrough.
What you need before starting
Prepare the following items before you begin. Having them available reduces the chance of getting stuck halfway through the account-linking process.
- The official Battle.net mobile app: Install it from the official iOS App Store or Google Play listing. Avoid download links in advertisements, chat messages, forum posts, or email.
- Your Battle.net sign-in details: You need to sign in to the account in the mobile app. Keep the account email and password available, but do not enter them into a page opened from an unsolicited message.
- Recovery information: Make sure you can access the email address associated with the account and any recovery method already registered. Blizzard’s recovery routes differ depending on what remains accessible.
- A phone you control: The phone should be protected with its own screen lock and kept updated. Do not set up the authenticator on a shared or borrowed device that other people can unlock.
- A clean computer and phone: If you already suspect malware or account theft, deal with that risk before trusting a new approval request. Blizzard advises securing the computer and the Battle.net account as part of compromise recovery.
A phone number is not universally required to create a Battle.net account. Some services use SMS, but Blizzard presents the authenticator as an alternative verification method when SMS delivery is unreliable. Availability and eligibility for phone-related features can vary by region, so do not assume that SMS is required for every authenticator setup or that every recovery option is offered everywhere.
How to attach the authenticator, step by step
- Install the official Battle.net mobile app. Open the iOS or Android storefront on your phone, search for Blizzard’s Battle.net app, and verify the publisher before installing. Do not install an “authenticator” app offered by an unrelated publisher.
- Open the app and sign in. Use the Battle.net account you want to protect. If the app displays a device or account choice, check it carefully before continuing so you do not attach the security feature to the wrong account.
- Follow the app’s prompts to connect the authenticator. Blizzard’s documented path is to sign in to the mobile app and complete the prompts that attach the authenticator to the account. Labels and screen order may change with app updates; use the current on-screen instructions rather than searching for a fixed button name.
- Complete any confirmation the app requests. The app may ask you to confirm that you want to connect the account or to re-enter account information. Complete that confirmation only inside the official app.
- Approve a future sign-in when prompted. Once attached, Battle.net can send a push notification to the app, or ask you to approve from within the app. Follow the approval instruction shown at sign-in and make sure the account and device information match what you initiated.
A successful setup means the app is connected to the intended Battle.net account and can respond to an authentication request. If the connection does not complete, stop rather than repeatedly entering credentials into a page reached through an email or chat link. Open the official app directly and consult the current Blizzard Support article titled “How to attach an Authenticator to your Battle.net account.”

How sign-in approvals work
Push notification approval
When Battle.net requests an additional verification, the app can present a one-tap push notification. Read the request before approving it. If you were not trying to sign in, deny it and treat the unexpected request as a possible warning that someone has your password or is attempting to trick you.
Approval inside the app
Blizzard also describes approving sign-ins from within the Battle.net app. Open the app directly rather than following a link in a message. Complete only the request that corresponds to a sign-in you started.
Never disclose authentication information
Never send a one-time code, approval screenshot, password, or recovery detail to another person. Blizzard employees and legitimate support processes do not need you to disclose a code through a game chat, social-media message, or unsolicited email. An attacker who asks you to “approve a test” or read back a code is trying to turn the second factor into an authorization for their own login.

If an approval appears when you are not signing in, do not tap approve just to clear the notification. Deny it, change your Battle.net password from the official account interface, and inspect the security of the computer and email account you use with Battle.net. If you cannot regain confidence in the account, use Blizzard’s account-recovery and support flows.

Strengthen the account around the authenticator
Use a password that is unique to Battle.net
The authenticator is strongest when the password cannot be reused elsewhere. Choose a long, unique password and store it in a reputable password manager if that suits your setup. Do not share it with friends, guild members, account sellers, “support” contacts, or anyone claiming to need it for a trade or troubleshooting session.
Protect the email account
Battle.net recovery messages and security alerts depend on the email address associated with the account. Secure that mailbox with its own unique password and available multi-factor protection. Review forwarding rules and recent sign-ins if you suspect that someone has accessed it; control of the email account can undermine otherwise good Battle.net security.
Recognize phishing before entering credentials
Phishing pages often imitate Blizzard branding, offer invented gifts or beta invitations, or claim that an account will be suspended unless you sign in immediately. Do not use a login link from an unexpected message. Instead, open the Battle.net app or type the known official address yourself, inspect the domain before entering a password, and treat urgency as a reason to slow down.
Keep the phone and computer maintained
Install operating-system and app updates, use a screen lock on the phone, and avoid installing untrusted software that requests broad permissions. If a computer is infected, an attacker may capture a new password or interfere with a sign-in even after you attach the authenticator. Blizzard’s compromise guidance calls for securing both the Battle.net account and the computer before continuing with support.

Consider passkeys as an additional measure
Blizzard’s security guidance also mentions passkeys. A passkey can complement the authenticator, but availability and setup depend on the account and device. Enable it only through the current official account settings or Blizzard Support instructions, and do not assume that a passkey replaces every other recovery method.
Recovery when the phone or authenticator is unavailable
Recovery depends on what you still control. Blizzard’s support catalog includes separate guidance for attaching an authenticator, removing one, and handling a lost or inaccessible authenticator. The company also describes Battle.net Phone Notifications as a possible way to remove a lost authenticator, unlock an account, recover an account name, or reset a password. Eligibility, supported regions, and the screens offered can change, so use the current Blizzard Support flow for your specific case.
| Your situation | Documented direction | What to do next |
|---|---|---|
| You are still signed in and can use the connected phone | The authenticator is available in the Battle.net mobile app. | Keep the app installed and the phone protected. If you are replacing the phone, use Blizzard’s current transfer, removal, or reattachment guidance before wiping the old device. |
| You can access the registered phone number but lost the authenticator device | Battle.net Phone Notifications may support removal of a lost authenticator, account unlocking, account-name recovery, or password reset. | Check whether the phone-notification option is available for your account and region, then follow the official recovery prompts. Do not assume SMS-based recovery is offered everywhere. |
| You lost the phone and cannot use the registered number | Blizzard lists support for lost or inaccessible authenticators and account recovery. | Start with the current Blizzard Support recovery article. Have the account email and other ownership information ready, and follow the method Blizzard offers rather than trying random third-party “unlock” services. |
| You believe someone changed the password or security settings | Blizzard advises recovering the account and securing the computer before proceeding with support. | Use the official account-recovery route, secure the computer and email account, then review and re-establish the authenticator and other available protections. |
Do not remove an authenticator casually. Removing it reduces the account’s second-factor protection until a replacement is attached. If you must remove it because the device is lost or replaced, complete the recovery or replacement process promptly and verify that the new device can approve a sign-in.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf you suspect your Battle.net account was compromised
- Stop responding to suspicious messages. Do not click more links or provide passwords, codes, screenshots, or personal information to the person contacting you.
- Secure the computer and phone. Run the security checks available for your operating system, remove untrusted software, install pending updates, and change passwords from a device you trust.
- Secure the email account. Change its password, enable available multi-factor protection, and check for unfamiliar forwarding rules or recovery changes.
- Use Blizzard’s official account-recovery process. If you can still sign in, change the Battle.net password and review security settings. If you cannot, use the recovery path and the support article for an inaccessible authenticator.
- Reattach or restore the authenticator only after recovery. Confirm that the account is yours and that the phone is trustworthy before approving new requests.
An authenticator does not prove that every message claiming to be from Blizzard is genuine. It protects a sign-in approval; it does not protect you from voluntarily handing credentials to a phishing site or approving an attacker’s request.
Best Value
- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.

Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Common problems and safe responses
The app will not complete setup
Confirm that you installed the official Battle.net app, that you are signing in to the intended account, and that the phone has a working connection. Restart the app and follow the current prompts again. If the issue persists, use Blizzard Support’s attachment article rather than instructions that rely on obsolete screen names.
No push notification appears
Open the Battle.net app directly and check whether an approval is waiting there. Verify that notifications are enabled for the app and that the phone is connected. Do not approve an unrelated prompt simply because it is the only one visible. If approvals remain unavailable, use the official support route; do not disable security permanently as a workaround.
You changed or reset the phone
Before erasing an old phone, make sure you understand Blizzard’s current removal or reattachment procedure. If the old device is already gone, use the lost-or-inaccessible-authenticator recovery flow. The exact steps and eligibility may vary by account and region.

Do not share a password or one-time code and do not approve a sign-in they initiated. Close the conversation and reach Blizzard through its official support site or app entry point. A real support interaction should not require you to surrender control of the second factor.
You assume a phone number is mandatory
Blizzard says a phone number is optional when creating a Battle.net account, while certain services use SMS. The authenticator itself is documented as an app-based verification option, and SMS availability can differ by region. Check the requirement shown for your account instead of relying on a blanket rule.
A maintenance checklist
- Confirm the Battle.net mobile app remains installed on a phone you control.
- Keep the phone’s screen lock, operating system, and app current.
- Use a unique Battle.net password and a separate unique email password.
- Review unexpected approval requests as possible compromise indicators.
- Ignore unsolicited links, “account verification” demands, and requests for codes.
- Keep access to the account email and any registered recovery method.
- Before replacing a phone, follow Blizzard’s current authenticator-removal or reattachment guidance.
- If the device is lost, use Blizzard’s lost-authenticator or account-recovery flow promptly.
- Consider a passkey through official account settings when it is offered for your account.
- After suspected theft, secure the computer and email account before resetting Battle.net security.
The practical result is a layered defense: a unique password limits credential reuse, the authenticator blocks many password-only logins, and phishing awareness prevents you from authorizing an attacker yourself. The official Battle.net app and Blizzard Support remain the safest sources for the current setup and recovery screens.
