If you shared a password, verification code, or other secret, treat it as exposed: change it from a clean, trusted device, secure your computer, and use Blizzard’s account-recovery process if you see suspicious activity or cannot log in.
What to do first if you shared account details
- Use a clean, trusted device to change your Battle.net password. If you gave the seller your password, email address, verification code, or another secret, assume that information may be exposed. Do not use a computer you suspect is infected to change passwords.
- Change any reused password elsewhere. If the Battle.net password was also used for your email or other sites, change it on each of those accounts. Blizzard advises using a different password for every account because reused credentials can put other accounts at risk. See Blizzard’s account-hacked guidance.
- Secure the computer before trusting it again. Blizzard advises players who suspect a hack to secure their computer so they are not compromised again after regaining access. Scan for malware, keyloggers, and viruses, and keep the operating system and security software current. Do not download a supposed recovery tool or addon offered by the seller. Blizzard’s Battle.net account security guidance covers these precautions.
- Add or check the Battle.net Authenticator. Blizzard describes its authenticator as its best account-security feature and says two-step verification makes unauthorized access extremely difficult. Add it or confirm it is enabled through the official Battle.net account and app channels.
When to contact Blizzard Support
Submit an account recovery ticket through Blizzard Support’s Account Hacked flow if you cannot log in, your account details have changed, or you see transactions or activity you did not make. Blizzard says Customer Support reviews the case and restores access. A password change alone is not a substitute for reporting a suspected compromise, and restoration of every item or reversal of every action is not guaranteed.
If you shared payment information or believe a card may have been exposed, contact the payment provider through its official channel. Blizzard warns that gold sellers may steal customers’ credit cards as well as Battle.net accounts; the provider can advise you about securing the payment method and reviewing charges.
How to tell whether missing gold means a hack
Gold missing from all your characters can indicate that the account was compromised. Before assuming that, check what happened to the gold. Blizzard lists ordinary explanations for gold missing from one character, including an Auction House or vendor purchase, mail, a guild-bank deposit, a WoW Token purchase, or an addon display issue. If you find unfamiliar activity, account changes, or losses you cannot explain, report them through the recovery process rather than relying on the missing-gold clue alone.
