In Minecraft Java Edition, the classic shortcut is F3+G: hold F3 and tap G to toggle chunk borders around your player. In newer releases, you can also configure chunk-border rendering in Debug Options; the shortcut to open that screen can vary by version, so check your installed game’s controls if F3+G does not work.
Toggle chunk borders with F3+G
- While playing Minecraft Java Edition, hold F3 and tap G.
- Look for the visible boundaries around your player. Press F3+G again to hide them.
F3+G is the established Java Edition shortcut, documented since snapshot 16w20a. Minecraft Wiki: Chunk

Configure chunk borders in Debug Options
Newer Java releases provide a Debug Options screen where chunk-border rendering can be configured. In the Java Edition 1.21.9 release notes, Minecraft documents F3+F6 to open this screen and says the selected state is saved between launches. The screen can configure debug items to be disabled, shown while the debug screen is open, or always visible. Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.9 release notes
The earlier snapshot 25w31a notes documented F3+F5 for Debug Options. That difference is why you should use the shortcut documented for your installed release rather than assume the same key combination applies to every version. Minecraft Java Edition snapshot 25w31a notes

If F3+G does not work
- Check your version’s controls. Open Controls/keybinds and look for the chunk-border or debug action. Bindings and Debug Options shortcuts may differ by release or setup.
- Try the Fn key if needed. On keyboards where F3 is a hardware function key, use the keyboard’s function-key mode or Fn combination as appropriate.
- Check debug-information settings. Official snapshot 25w31a notes mention a fix involving reducedDebugInfo and F3+G, but do not provide a complete multiplayer-administrator troubleshooting procedure. Minecraft Java Edition snapshot 25w31a notes
- For later releases, verify rather than guess. The official Java Edition 26.1 notes describe other debug-screen and renderer changes but do not specify the current chunk-border hotkey. Minecraft Java Edition 26.1 release notes
What chunk borders show
Chunk borders are visible boundaries around the chunks near your player, provided as a debugging aid. The F3 debug screen and the instructions here apply to Java Edition, not Bedrock Edition. Minecraft Wiki: Debug screen
