Its three values show your position in the world.
How to see your coordinates in Java Edition
- Start or resume a Java Edition world.
- Press F3 to open the debug screen.
- Find the XYZ entry and read the three values shown there.
Minecraft’s official guide to exploring describes using the Java debug screen to view coordinates. The screen includes plenty of diagnostic text, but you only need the XYZ entry to find your position.

What X, Y, and Z tell you
X, Y, and Z are the three coordinates that describe your position in the world. Keep a location’s values if you want to return to it, find a friend in multiplayer, or reorient yourself after leaving an underground area, as Minecraft’s guide explains.
If F3 does not show coordinates
- Check your edition. This F3 method is for Java Edition. Bedrock Edition uses a different route: pause the game, open Settings, then enable Show Coordinates in the world options, according to the official guide.
- Check your function-key behavior. If F3 does not open the debug screen, check how your keyboard handles function keys and review the controls for your Minecraft release. The official instructions do not establish one alternate key combination that works universally.
- Look for XYZ, not just a simplified display. The debug screen contains many lines of information. A Minecraft Feedback post captures the common frustration of seeing “a lot of text” when pressing F3; the relevant entry for your position is XYZ. The post is user-submitted feedback, not official instructions.
Debug-screen options and version differences
The usual way to open Java’s debug screen remains F3. In its Snapshot 25w31a release notes, Mojang says, “The debug screen is accessible by pressing F3, as before,” and describes a Debug Options screen opened with F3 + F5 for configuring debug information. Those details are specific to that snapshot; if you are using another release and the menu or shortcut differs, check the documentation or controls for that version.
