These steps are for modded Minecraft: Java Edition profiles, not Bedrock add-ons.
Choose the sharing method

The recipient needs a compatible launcher or tool to import and play the pack. The exact steps below apply to the named platforms, not every third-party launcher.
Send a CurseForge modpack privately
- Open the Minecraft tab in the CurseForge Client and select the profile you want to send.
- Open the profile menu and choose Share Profile.
- Choose what to include. For a modpack without worlds, CurseForge recommends selecting config and mods. Include worlds or other files only if you intend to share them.
- Save the generated ZIP and send it to the recipient, or—if logged in—generate a profile code and send that instead. See CurseForge’s sharing and import instructions.
- The recipient chooses Import in CurseForge, then selects the ZIP or enters the code.
CurseForge says profile codes are valid for seven days. If the code has expired, create a new one. If importing a ZIP gives an “Invalid file” error, check that it is a ZIP exported as a CurseForge modpack or custom profile—not an individual mod or world—and that it follows CurseForge’s expected export structure. Compressing arbitrary folders into a ZIP does not necessarily create an importable pack.
Send a Modrinth pack privately
- In the Modrinth App, open the instance’s Mods tab and select Export modpack to create an
.mrpackfile. - If export is unavailable, check whether the instance needs to be unpaired; the app may require this before export.
- Send the file through a file host or another transfer method. Modrinth lists Google Drive, OneDrive and Dropbox as file-host examples.
- The recipient imports the file with a compatible launcher or tool.
Modrinth’s sharing guidance covers direct file sharing and public distribution. For friends receiving the file directly, updates are manual: they do not get project features such as easier version changes.

When to publish the pack instead
If you want strangers to discover the pack or want recipients to manage versions more easily, create a public project on CurseForge or Modrinth rather than sending an archive privately. Follow the chosen platform’s rules and permission requirements. Modrinth says submitted projects are reviewed before they become publicly accessible; check its live modpack guide for current submission requirements and review timing. Public hosting is a different workflow from exporting a file to send to a friend.

An .mrpack contains pack metadata and a list of files with destination paths relative to the Minecraft instance directory. The format matters to launcher developers implementing imports: Modrinth warns them to prevent paths from escaping that directory. Ordinary recipients do not need to edit the archive; use a compatible import tool. See the Modrinth format documentation.
