Restream says a scheduled playlist can play automatically even when your laptop is unplugged. First make sure your YouTube channel is eligible to livestream; first-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
Before you build the playlist
- Enable YouTube livestreaming in advance. YouTube requires a verified channel with no livestreaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time enablement may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until the day of your broadcast. YouTube’s livestreaming eligibility guidance explains the requirements.
- Prepare the video files and sequence. Decide the order in which they should play and have any title, description, event time, or cover image ready. Restream’s older event guide describes those event details, but file-size and duration limits depend on subscription level; verify the current limits shown in your account before uploading a large playlist. Restream’s prerecorded-video guide dates from 2022, so do not rely on its historical plan limits as current.
- Choose the right workflow. Restream’s playlist feature hosts an ordered set of prerecorded videos. An encoder-based YouTube stream is a separate workflow for sending a live feed from encoder software.
Create and schedule a Restream playlist
- From the Restream home screen, select Pre-recorded livestream, then Playlist. If you have made a playlist before, Restream’s current guide says you can select it from the home screen.
- Choose videos already in your Restream library or upload new files. Check your account’s current upload constraints before preparing or uploading a long sequence; the available limits can vary by plan.
- Arrange the videos in the order you want them to play. Review the sequence carefully: the playlist combines the selected files into one broadcast.
- Select Add Video to include more files or create a countdown. Restream also offers playlist customization such as designs, captions, and QR codes; add these only if they fit the event.
- Preview the playlist, then schedule it for the intended time using the controls shown in Restream. Its help article says scheduled playlists can broadcast automatically, including while your laptop is unplugged.
- Check the event state and the corresponding YouTube event or watch page to confirm the destination and presentation are as intended. Do not assume the service has created or published every YouTube event detail automatically; confirm what your account shows.
These controls and the automatic-playback description are from Restream’s playlist guide, published July 25, 2026. Follow the labels and event status in your own account if the interface differs.
How this differs from a YouTube encoder stream
| Workflow | What you do | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Restream playlist | Choose or upload videos in Restream, order and optionally customize them, then preview or schedule. | A hosted prerecorded sequence; Restream says a scheduled playlist can run automatically. |
| YouTube encoder stream | Configure an encoder for a YouTube stream, start sending the feed, inspect the preview in Live Control Room, and use the YouTube controls for that encoder event. | A separate workflow suited to a feed sent from encoder software, rather than the hosted playlist described above. |
YouTube’s encoder instructions describe starting the encoder, checking the preview in Live Control Room, and clicking Go live for an encoder-based scheduled broadcast. Do not treat that manual sequence as a universal requirement for a Restream-hosted playlist; follow Restream’s playlist status and controls instead.
A YouTube stream key is a credential that tells an encoder where to send its feed and lets YouTube accept it. It matters for the encoder workflow, but the Restream playlist instructions do not establish that you should paste a stream key into the playlist flow. Only enter a stream key where the current instructions for the workflow you are using require it, and keep it private. See YouTube’s stream settings guidance.

Troubleshooting before the scheduled start
You cannot start livestreaming on YouTube
Check that the channel is verified and has not had a livestreaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. If this is your first time enabling livestreams, activation may take up to 24 hours; enable it early rather than waiting for the scheduled event.
A video will not upload or the playlist cannot be scheduled
Restream’s guide says file-size limits depend on subscription level, and current file constraints should be checked in your account. Confirm the file and plan constraints shown there before retrying; the 2022 guide’s old free-plan limits should not be treated as current.

The expected YouTube event or page is not ready
Check the event state in Restream and inspect the corresponding YouTube event or watch page. The playlist instructions do not establish that every event is automatically created or published, so verify the destination and event details rather than assuming they are complete.
You are waiting for YouTube’s encoder preview or Go live button
Those steps belong to the encoder-based workflow documented by YouTube. For a hosted Restream playlist, use the playlist preview, schedule, and status controls Restream provides; do not apply encoder steps unless you have chosen to send an encoder feed.

Keep the playlist rights-cleared
Scheduling a video does not grant permission to use its music, footage, or other material. Before broadcasting, confirm you have the rights or appropriate permission for every item, including background music and game footage where relevant, and review YouTube’s policies for your channel and content. Use this copyright safety checklist as a practical preflight. For YouTube’s channel livestream eligibility conditions, see its official guidance.
