For an AAC audio file rather than a live station feed, use OBS’s Media Source. Test the specific feed in OBS first: compatibility depends on the station’s URL and transport.
Choose the right OBS source
Live station feed
For a network radio feed, try VLC Video, which uses VLC libraries for extended media playback and supports playlists. Add the station’s published stream URL or playlist and check whether OBS can play it. OBS does not guarantee that every live AAC endpoint or transport will work. The station endpoint is also specific to the broadcaster.
If VLC Video is unavailable, install VLC with the same architecture as OBS; OBS notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. See the OBS Media Sources documentation.
AAC file
If you have an AAC recording saved on your computer, add it with Media Source. OBS lists .aac among its supported audio-file types. That support applies to files; it does not establish that every live radio URL will play.

Set up the scene and verify the audio

In OBS, create or select a scene. Add the input: choose VLC Video for a live feed, or Media Source for an AAC file.

For a live feed, enter the station’s stream URL or playlist in the VLC source and start playback. If you are using an AAC file, select that file in Media Source.

Add a suitable visual to the scene, such as a station image, logo, or program graphic. A typical YouTube encoder broadcast needs video as well as audio; this visual-source step follows OBS’s scene/source workflow and YouTube’s video encoder requirements.

Check that the intended source is active and that the audio meter moves while the feed plays. OBS recommends checking its meters during setup. If you add an audio device as a scene source, make sure that same device is not also selected globally under Settings → Audio, which can cause echo. Connect OBS to the YouTube event

In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the live event and copy the event’s stream URL and stream key into OBS’s streaming settings. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.

Treat the stream key as a credential: YouTube says it is like a password and address. Do not share it publicly. If it is compromised, reset it in Live Control Room and update OBS using the new key. See Manage live stream settings.

Use YouTube’s current encoder guidance as your target. YouTube lists RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, and CBR bitrate encoding, and recommends RTMPS. For stereo audio, its listed sample rate is 44.1 kHz and listed audio bitrate is 128 Kbps. Set video resolution and bitrate according to your visual content, available upload capacity, and YouTube’s current requirements; consult YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for the applicable video guidance.

Start streaming in OBS. Wait for the event preview in YouTube Live Control Room and check both the picture and sound before clicking Go live. Run a short test before a scheduled broadcast.

Check rights and YouTube rules before broadcasting
Having access to a station’s stream does not by itself establish that you have permission to rebroadcast it. Confirm that you have the necessary rights or authorization for the station audio and any music, jingles, images, or other material in the broadcast. YouTube’s applicable copyright and monetization rules can affect a live stream; review the current rules for your channel and content before going live. The OBS and encoder setup instructions do not verify your rights or guarantee that a particular broadcast will remain available.

Troubleshoot common problems

No audio meter activity: Confirm the right source is active, the station URL or file is correct, and playback works inside the selected source. If the live endpoint will not play, the URL or transport may not be compatible with this setup; OBS’s documented AAC support for Media Source covers files, not every network feed.

Echo or duplicated audio: If the same device is added as a scene source and selected under Settings → Audio, remove one capture path or change the global device selection.

No YouTube preview: Check that OBS has the event’s correct stream URL and key, then allow time for the preview to appear before selecting Go live.

Stream key may have been exposed: Reset it in YouTube Live Control Room and replace the saved key in OBS.
