Copy the server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio, add them in RadioBOSS, then start the broadcast and confirm the preview in YouTube’s Live Control Room. For an audio-first station, RadioBOSS also asks you to provide a background image or video.
Before you start
- You need RadioBOSS and access to the YouTube channel you intend to stream from.
- YouTube Live must be enabled for the channel. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours; that is YouTube’s stated possible delay, not a typical measured wait. YouTube’s encoder setup guide
- Prepare a background image or video file you have the rights to use in the stream. RadioBOSS’s reviewed RTMP instructions require a visual but do not specify exact dimensions or formats. RadioBOSS RTMP streaming manual
The documented direct setup does not require OBS, a virtual audio cable, or a separate intermediary. Those may be useful for separate production needs, such as mixing external microphones or creating a more elaborate scene, but they are not part of the documented direct route.
Get the YouTube server URL and stream key
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create → Go Live.
- Create a stream or select the stream whose settings you want to use.
- Copy the RTMP server URL and stream key displayed for that stream. Keep the key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to that stream.
If live streaming is not yet available on the channel, complete YouTube’s activation process before your planned broadcast. YouTube says first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours. YouTube’s encoder setup guide
Configure RadioBOSS’s RTMP custom encoder
- In RadioBOSS, open Settings → Options → Broadcast → Custom Encoders.
- Add a custom encoder and give it a recognizable name, such as
YT-Live. - Choose RTMP as the encoder type.
- Enter the YouTube RTMP server URL and stream key in the corresponding fields.
- Choose the background image or video for the broadcast. Use media that your station is allowed to stream.
- If RadioBOSS prompts you to install the RTMP plugin, follow the prompt.
- Save the RTMP settings and the custom-encoder dialog.
The RadioBOSS manual describes RTMP for services including YouTube. Its setup uses the server URL and key provided by the streaming service. RadioBOSS RTMP streaming manual

Add the custom encoder to Broadcast
- In RadioBOSS’s Broadcast area, add a streaming encoder.
- Set the encoder’s Server field to
[rtmp]. - In the Encoder field, select the custom encoder you just created.
- Save the broadcast encoder settings.
When you are ready to broadcast, make sure the Broadcast encoder is enabled or started so RadioBOSS sends the station feed.
Check the preview and go live
- Start the RadioBOSS broadcast output.
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and wait for the incoming preview.
- For a scheduled stream, click Go live after the preview appears. Starting the encoder feed and making a scheduled event live are distinct steps in YouTube’s workflow.
- Monitor the feed in Live Control Room while the station is on air.
- When finished, end the stream in Live Control Room and stop the RadioBOSS encoder.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. This is an archive threshold, not a guarantee about the availability of every stream or recording. YouTube’s encoder setup guide

Troubleshoot a RadioBOSS YouTube stream
YouTube does not show a preview
- Confirm the server URL and stream key came from the YouTube stream you mean to use.
- Check that the custom encoder is selected in the Broadcast encoder and that its Server field is
[rtmp]. - If RadioBOSS requested the RTMP plugin, verify that it was installed.
- Confirm the encoder is enabled and that RadioBOSS is sending its output.
These checks correspond to the documented configuration fields; the RadioBOSS manual does not enumerate YouTube-specific error messages. RadioBOSS RTMP streaming manual
You cannot start a live stream in YouTube
If live streaming has just been enabled for the channel, YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours. Check the channel’s live-stream availability in YouTube Studio and allow for that activation window. YouTube’s encoder setup guide

You followed a RadioBOSS Cloud guide instead
