Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →To send an FFmpeg RTMP stream to AWS, create an RTMP Push input in AWS Elemental MediaLive, publish from FFmpeg to the endpoint and stream path MediaLive generates, attach that input to a MediaLive channel, and start the source before starting the channel. MediaPackage is a possible destination for the processed output—not the RTMP ingest endpoint.
Choose RTMP Push or RTMP Pull
Use RTMP Push when FFmpeg will publish the stream to MediaLive. MediaLive supplies the input endpoint; FFmpeg sends to it. Choose RTMP Pull when MediaLive should retrieve the stream from an existing external RTMP server. AWS documents both input types in its MediaLive input protocol documentation.
Create and configure the MediaLive input
Create an RTMP Push input
In the MediaLive console, create an RTMP Push input, then configure its network and input-class settings. The detailed AWS procedure cited here covers a VPC RTMP Push input: it requires VPC networking, a MediaLive role, an input class, an application name, and an application instance (also called a stream or stream key). In that VPC example, MediaLive creates endpoint addresses using port 1935.
Those VPC endpoints are private subnet addresses, not public endpoints. The FFmpeg machine must be able to reach the configured VPC network; do not assume an encoder outside that network can connect to a private endpoint. Follow the applicable AWS procedure for your chosen network mode and use the endpoint MediaLive actually generates. See AWS’s RTMP input creation procedure.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check the input class and generated endpoints
For the documented VPC setup, a standard-class input has two endpoints, and the upstream sender must publish to both. A single-class input uses the first endpoint. Use the count and addresses displayed for your input rather than substituting a generic server URL.
Attach the input to a channel and set the output
Create or configure a MediaLive channel and attach the RTMP input to it. Set the channel’s processing and choose a downstream output appropriate to the delivery you need. MediaLive documents output to an RTMP server as one option and output to a MediaPackage channel as another; the workflow wizard also shows MediaPackage delivery onward to CloudFront. These are downstream choices after ingest and channel processing, not prerequisites for every RTMP input. See AWS’s pages on output containers, protocols, and downstream systems and the workflow wizard.

Configure FFmpeg to publish to the generated endpoint
In FFmpeg, configure the output URL using the endpoint, application name, and stream instance or key MediaLive generated for the input. The exact URL must match that input’s displayed endpoint and path. For a standard-class VPC input, publish to both generated endpoints as AWS specifies.
AWS’s cited documentation describes the MediaLive RTMP workflow and its generated endpoints, but does not provide an FFmpeg command. Therefore, there is no command here presented as tested or guaranteed: build the FFmpeg output target from the exact endpoint and path for your input, and verify connectivity from the sender’s network before starting production.

Use supported input codecs and protocol
For RTMP inputs, AWS lists H.264 (AVC) video and AAC audio. AWS states that RTMPS input is unsupported. Configure the FFmpeg output for those supported codecs and RTMP rather than assuming an RTMPS URL will work. Check AWS’s supported codecs by input type and supported input protocols documentation for current details.
Start the source before the MediaLive channel
- Start FFmpeg so it begins publishing to the generated RTMP endpoint or endpoints.
- Confirm the sender is reaching the configured input, including both destinations for a standard-class VPC input.
- Start the MediaLive channel only while the push source is active. AWS says a push source must be pushing when the channel starts. When the channel is stopped, MediaLive does not respond to the RTMP handshake and the sender pauses.
Troubleshoot common connection failures
- FFmpeg cannot connect: Check that you used the generated endpoint and application/stream path, and that the sender can route to it. For VPC inputs, private endpoint addresses require network reachability into the relevant VPC.
- A standard-class input does not receive the expected stream: Confirm the upstream system is publishing to both generated endpoints. A single-class input uses only the first.
- The channel does not acquire the push input: Start the FFmpeg source first, then start the channel. A stopped channel does not respond to the RTMP handshake, so the sender may pause.
- The input rejects the media: Verify H.264/AVC video and AAC audio are being sent over RTMP. RTMPS input is not supported according to the cited MediaLive documentation.
- The viewer-facing destination is wrong: Separate ingest from delivery. FFmpeg sends to the MediaLive input; MediaLive processes the input and sends output to the configured RTMP server or MediaPackage channel as appropriate.
