Nintendo’s December 2021 holiday guidance confirms the airport-card route and says a gift can be attached. It does not specify the exact menu wording or all recipient restrictions, so follow the prompts displayed in your game.

Other meanings of “send a gift”
The airport is the documented option for sending an attached gift to another player. Giving something to an island resident and redeeming an item for your own mailbox are different activities.

Use the in-game instructions for the interaction rather than relying on an unverified step-by-step sequence.

NookLink lets players collect Nook Points and redeem them for items delivered to their own in-game mailbox. To use it, sign in to the Nintendo Switch App with a Nintendo Account and enable NookLink in the game’s settings. Nintendo says a compatible smart device and persistent internet connection are required; Nintendo Switch Online is needed for certain features, and availability varies by country. Limits Nintendo does not specify
Nintendo’s public airport guidance does not state which items can be attached, whether a particular friendship level is required, how many cards can be sent, or how long delivery takes. Do not assume a limit or timing that the game does not show you.
