To set your personal respawn point in Minecraft on PC, place and use a bed in the Overworld. Look for the chat message “Respawn point set.” If you mean the default spawn for the whole world, use /setworldspawn instead; it changes a different setting and requires command access.
Set your personal respawn point with a bed
- Place a bed in a safe, accessible spot in the Overworld.
- Interact with the bed. When the chat message “Respawn point set” appears, it has become your personal respawn point.
Minecraft’s official guide, “Spawning and dying in Minecraft”, recommends putting the bed somewhere safe. If you move or lose access to the bed, that respawn point may no longer work and you can return to the world spawn after dying. Use the new bed again after moving it to set your point there.
Change the default spawn for the world
Use /setworldspawn when you want to change the world’s default spawn location, not just your own bed-based respawn point. With no coordinates, Minecraft’s command guide says the command sets the world spawn to the command user’s current location; coordinates can specify another location. See Minecraft’s “How to Use Commands in Minecraft” guide.
Command access depends on edition and world settings. In Bedrock Edition, the official /setworldspawn reference says cheats must be enabled and the user must have Game Director permission. Do not assume that Bedrock permission description applies to Java Edition.

Java Edition and command changes
In Java Edition single-player, commands may need to be enabled for the session; Minecraft’s command guide explains the available command-enabling option. Command behavior can also depend on version: the Java Edition 1.21.9 release notes describe changes to /spawnpoint and /setworldspawn, including broader direction control and setting respawn locations outside the Overworld. Because syntax changes by edition and version, use the in-game command help for the version you have installed.
Use a respawn anchor in the Nether
A normal bed is the Overworld method, not the Nether method. Minecraft identifies a respawn anchor as the block for Nether respawning. The official gameplay guidance cited here does not give a full anchor crafting, charging, or use procedure, so consult the in-game guidance for those steps.
