For a 24/7 mantra broadcast, match the loudness of the recordings before they reach the encoder, preserve intentional changes in intensity, and keep peaks below digital clipping. Then test and listen to the complete signal chain; YouTube’s viewer-side Stable volume is not a dependable substitute for preparing a consistent stream.
What audio normalization should do for a mantra stream
Normalization is about perceived loudness, not just the height of a meter reading. A peak meter can show whether a brief sound approaches the digital ceiling, but it cannot tell you whether one recording in a playlist sounds much louder than the next. Measure the prepared program with a loudness meter that reports integrated LUFS, and check peak level separately.
For a loop or playlist, the practical goal is to prevent distracting level jumps between recordings while retaining the mantra’s intended quiet-to-loud movement. Match the files before streaming where possible rather than forcing a real-time processor to continually reshape the whole program.
Is there a recommended LUFS target for YouTube Live?
No published LUFS target appears in YouTube Help’s live encoder recommendations. That guidance covers encoding and testing, not an integrated-loudness requirement. In particular, -14 LUFS is not established there as a mandatory YouTube Live target.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The Audio Engineering Society’s TD1008 v3.13 (2021) provides a general online-audio reference: it recommends music averaging -16 LUFS when music and speech are normalized separately, and gives -16 LUFS as an integrated-loudness example for pop music distribution. These are AES recommendations, not YouTube rules or a prescribed target for devotional mantra. Treat -16 LUFS as an optional starting reference, then decide whether it suits your recordings by listening and checking peaks.
Prepare and level-match the recordings
- Assemble the intended program. Put the recordings in the order or loop you plan to broadcast. Include the quietest and loudest material, as well as any passages with deliberate changes in intensity.
- Measure complete recordings. Use a loudness meter that reports integrated loudness using a recognized loudness method. Measure the whole recording, not just a short excerpt, and note the result for each file.
- Adjust relative gain where needed. If one file is substantially louder or quieter than neighboring items, change its clip or file gain and measure again. Listen across the transitions; matching a number alone may not produce a natural-sounding sequence.
- Preserve intentional dynamics. Do not raise quiet passages merely because they are quiet if that variation is part of the performance. Check quiet sections as well as average loudness so that the stream remains coherent without flattening the material.
OBS’s documented main audio meter is a peak program meter, and its black indicator is VU-style; neither is presented as an integrated LUFS display. Do not infer a recording’s integrated loudness from an OBS meter bar. For meter behavior and monitoring practice, see the OBS audio mixer guide.

Control peaks without flattening the sound
Set the gain so the encoded output stays below 0 dBFS. OBS notes that audio at or above the final digital ceiling can clip. A limiter can catch unexpected peaks, but avoid pushing it so hard that breaths, room tone, repetition, or deliberate changes in intensity become audibly compressed.
Real-time loudness correction is a different approach from matching the files in advance. It can react to what has already happened, but it cannot know what comes later. The Audio Engineering Society’s loudness-normalization guidance explains that real-time processes cannot predict the remainder of a live program and may override intended dynamics. It describes rolling analysis windows commonly between 30 seconds and two minutes as a compromise for active correction—not as a universal setting every stream should use. If you apply real-time correction, audition it through both quiet and loud sections and listen for pumping or lost dynamics.

Set YouTube’s encoder audio separately
YouTube Help’s live encoder settings list AAC or MP3 audio, a 44.1 kHz stereo sample rate, and 128 kbps for stereo audio. These are transmission settings, not loudness targets. Configure them separately from your file gain, loudness matching, and peak control.
Test the complete stream before leaving it on
- Choose a representative test section. Include the quietest and loudest expected passages and at least one playlist transition. YouTube recommends that tests use audio and movement similar to the planned stream.
- Listen at the source and at the encoder output. Check the audio before it enters OBS or the encoder, then listen again to the signal in the streaming setup. Headphones or monitor output can help with listening checks, but they do not measure LUFS or normalize the audio.
- Record and play back a test. Listen to the recording rather than relying on live meters alone. Check for clipping, sudden changes between files, silence from a playback fault, pumping, and distracting encoding artifacts.
- Monitor the actual live stream. YouTube recommends monitoring stream health during the event. Check the delivered audio as well as the status indicators; meter activity alone cannot establish whether the mantra sounds comfortable or whether its reverb and tonal balance remain appropriate.
OBS also recommends listening at the source and in OBS, then recording and checking a session before going live. Its audio mixer guidance explains its meters and monitoring options.

Why YouTube’s Stable volume is not a mastering control
YouTube says Stable volume is enabled by default for viewers and balances quiet and loud portions, but it is not available on every video and viewers can turn it off. It is a playback feature, so creators should make the stream coherent on its own rather than depend on every viewer receiving identical processing.
YouTube also documents audio enhancements, including automatic volume adjustments and sound balancing. Its documentation says the enhancement setting can be managed for a channel’s future uploads; it does not establish that a live input is normalized to a fixed LUFS value. Do not count on these controls to correct an inconsistent live mix.

Common normalization problems and fixes
- The meter looks safe, but one recording sounds much louder. A peak meter is not an integrated loudness meter. Measure the recordings with a LUFS-capable meter, compare their full-program results, and adjust relative gain by listening.
- The sound distorts even though average loudness seems reasonable. Check true output peaks and lower gain so the signal remains below 0 dBFS. Use limiting only for occasional peaks, not as a reason to drive the whole program harder.
- The stream seems to swell and dip. Listen for aggressive real-time correction or limiting. Reduce the processing, audition quiet and loud sections, and match files in advance where possible.
- A playlist boundary causes a sudden jump or gap. Listen across the transition in a test recording. Recheck the gain and playback behavior of both files, and verify that the next item starts as expected.
- The test meter moves, but the stream sounds wrong. Record and listen back to the encoder output, then check the delivered stream. A meter cannot identify every issue in comfort, tone, reverb, or encoding quality.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the audio is ready but you do not want a home computer to remain on, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded video live on YouTube from the cloud. The setup is three steps: upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos; it is not a camera broadcast.
Nothing has to stay on at home. The video streams as uploaded at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. You still need to prepare and check the audio: cloud delivery does not choose a loudness target or make an inconsistent playlist consistent. Start the free day with StreamNeo.
