Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →For a standard H.264 YouTube stream, a cautious starting point is 720p at 30 fps and 3 Mbps video bitrate, then a test over the same connection you will use to stream. YouTube lists 3 Mbps as the minimum and 8 Mbps as recommended for that format. At 1080p30, its figures are 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended. Those are encoder settings—not guarantees that a particular Indian broadband connection or route to YouTube can sustain them.
Choose resolution and frame rate before bitrate
YouTube’s ingest guidance organizes bitrate by codec, resolution, and frame rate. Its table does not provide an India-specific broadband setting, and it does not account for your ISP, city, router, household traffic, or route to YouTube. The values below are YouTube’s H.264 encoder figures; the page does not show a publication year.
| H.264 format | YouTube minimum video bitrate | YouTube recommended video bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
These are video bitrates, not the total upload capacity your connection must provide. Audio and ordinary network variation also use capacity. A faster resolution or frame rate can require a higher encoder bitrate to meet YouTube’s recommendation, so choose a format your connection can maintain rather than selecting the highest option first.
YouTube’s table also lists 720p30 AV1/H.265 at 2 Mbps minimum and 6 Mbps recommended, and 1080p30 AV1/H.265 at 4 Mbps minimum and 10 Mbps recommended. Use the figures for the codec actually configured in OBS; do not apply one codec’s row to another.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Measure the upload you can sustain
Run an upload speed test from the computer and connection that will stream. If practical, repeat it at different times and under the normal load of other devices. Advertised download speed is not upload capacity, and a speed-test result by itself cannot establish whether the full route to YouTube will remain stable.
OBS’s dropped-frame troubleshooting guide offers 75% of total upload speed as a starting heuristic for bitrate. It is not a guarantee: a speed test cannot account for every burst of congestion, Wi-Fi problem, competing device, or route issue. Use it as a cautious reference alongside the YouTube encoder table, not as a calculation that proves a bitrate is safe.

- Test the actual connection. Use the streaming computer and network, and test when typical household or workplace traffic is present.
- Pick a supported output format. If sustained upload is uncertain, begin with a lower target such as H.264 720p30. YouTube’s 3 Mbps figure is the minimum for that format, not its recommended quality setting.
- Leave headroom. Set OBS’s video bitrate below what the connection appears able to carry continuously; the measured upload should not be allocated entirely to video.
- Test representative content. Include the loop’s actual audio and movement, then inspect dropped frames in OBS and stream-health messages in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Adjust based on the test. If network-related frames drop or the stream disconnects, reduce bitrate and test again. Increase only after the stream stays stable and the image needs more detail.
Set the OBS encoder for YouTube
For a straightforward compatibility-oriented setup, use H.264 over RTMPS. YouTube supports RTMP/RTMPS and H.264, H.265, or AV1; it recommends RTMPS because it encrypts delivery to Google’s servers. In OBS, select YouTube as the service and use its RTMPS ingest option when available. Exact OBS labels can vary by version and encoder.
- Rate control: CBR (constant bitrate).
- Video bitrate: Choose the matching YouTube H.264 table value as your target, while staying within the stable upload your test supports.
- Keyframe interval: 2 seconds. YouTube recommends this interval and says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Audio: AAC is a compatible choice. YouTube’s advanced guidance lists 128 Kbps for stereo audio.
- Advanced video details: YouTube’s guidance also lists square pixels, progressive scan, two B-frames, one reference frame, CABAC, and Rec. 709 with 8-bit SDR for standard dynamic range. Availability and names of these controls depend on the OBS encoder and hardware.
For example, a cautious H.264 720p30 baseline is CBR at 3 Mbps video, a 2-second keyframe interval, and AAC audio. Treat it as a test configuration, not a promise of stable streaming or a recommendation to remain at minimum quality if the connection supports more.

What changes when the stream is a loop?
A loop does not have a separate YouTube or India bitrate table. Use the codec, resolution, and frame rate of the stream to choose the relevant row. A mostly static image may look acceptable at a lower bitrate than fast-moving footage, but YouTube publishes no loop-specific discount. Test any lower setting with the actual video rather than assuming low motion makes it reliable.
Because a loop can run for a long time, a short successful test is not proof that the connection will hold throughout. OBS describes dropped frames as a sign that the connection to the remote server is unstable or cannot keep up with the selected bitrate. YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream health.

Troubleshoot dropped frames and disconnects
Network-related dropped frames
Lower the video bitrate first, then test again. If OBS allows a different YouTube server or route, trying it can help identify a path-specific issue. OBS documents Windows-only network optimizations and TCP pacing as possible troubleshooting options, not guaranteed fixes.
Unstable Wi-Fi
Where practical, test with a wired Ethernet connection. OBS recommends wired networking because Wi-Fi may be unstable for streaming. Ethernet can improve the local link, but it cannot increase the upload service provided by your ISP or fix congestion upstream.

Repeated disconnects after lowering bitrate
Check one factor at a time: VPNs, security software, network-optimization utilities, outdated network drivers, router or modem problems, and congestion along the network route can all contribute. If local checks do not resolve the problem, contact your ISP. The available guidance does not establish a reliable bitrate for any particular Indian ISP, city, plan, or household.
Dynamic bitrate in OBS
OBS offers a beta dynamic-bitrate option that can lower the bitrate when the connection cannot keep up. It may reduce interruptions, but OBS cautions that it does not fix the underlying network problem and can lower image quality.
