For an H.264 YouTube Live stream at 1080p, set OBS to 10,000 Kbps at 30 fps or 12,000 Kbps at 60 fps. YouTube lists minimums of 5,000 Kbps and 6,000 Kbps, respectively, but the recommended rate is the better target when your connection and computer can sustain it. A Kannada playlist needs no special bitrate: choose based on codec, output resolution, and frame rate.
Recommended OBS settings for 1080p
The figures below are YouTube’s H.264 live-ingest recommendations and listed minimums. They are platform settings, not a guarantee that a particular internet connection or computer can maintain the stream.

These values come from YouTube’s live encoder settings. If you choose an ingest codec other than H.264, consult the matching codec column in YouTube’s table rather than assuming the H.264 rates apply.
Set the video output in OBS
- Open Settings → Video. Set Output (Scaled) Resolution to 1920×1080. Choose 30 or 60 fps to match the source and the presentation you want.
- Open Settings → Output. Set the video bitrate to 10,000 Kbps for 1080p30 or 12,000 Kbps for 1080p60, assuming H.264 and sufficient stable upload capacity.
- In the streaming encoder options, use CBR and set the Keyframe Interval to 2 seconds. YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Use RTMPS as the server protocol where available. YouTube lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 as video codecs, and AAC or MP3 for audio. For stereo audio, YouTube specifies 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps.
- In YouTube Studio’s live control room, copy the stream key for the intended stream and enter it in OBS’s stream settings. Keep the key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a stream to your channel. Confirm the selected YouTube ingest destination and stream details before starting.
OBS’s streaming overview documents the relevant settings areas and notes that 60 fps can place more load on the system than 30 fps. Test the chosen configuration rather than assuming a computer can encode it continuously.

Choose 30 or 60 fps for a Kannada playlist
The language of the songs or narration does not change YouTube’s bitrate recommendation. A playlist built from mostly static artwork, lyrics, or low-motion visuals may work well at 30 fps if that matches the source. Choose 60 fps when smoother movement is important and the source, computer, and connection can support it.
- Match the source: if the video is 30 fps, setting OBS to 60 fps does not create additional source motion.
- Consider system load: if OBS cannot render or encode reliably at 60 fps, reduce the frame rate and test again.
- Choose for the actual presentation: transitions, animation, or other movement can affect whether 60 fps is worthwhile; the bitrate table follows output frame rate, not playlist language.
Match the bitrate to your upload connection
Your upload speed must be stable enough to sustain the video bitrate, with room for audio and normal network variation. A speed-test result is not provided here, so there is no personalized safe maximum. Start with a rate your connection can hold consistently; if OBS reports dropped frames, lower the video bitrate and test again. OBS explains that dropped frames can signal an unstable connection or a configured bitrate the connection cannot sustain. See its dropped frames troubleshooting guide.

Test before the public stream
- Run a test with the playlist audio and representative movement or visual transitions.
- Check OBS for dropped frames, rendering or encoding strain, and audio problems while the test is running.
- Check YouTube’s stream health and messages in the live control room. YouTube advises testing with audio and movement similar to the planned stream and monitoring stream health.
- If frames drop or the system struggles, lower the bitrate or frame rate as appropriate, then repeat the test before going public.
YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple playback formats, so the ingest resolution and bitrate you send are not necessarily the exact resolution every viewer receives. YouTube’s encoder settings page provides the current bitrate and protocol guidance.
Copyright and playlist readiness
Bitrate settings do not grant permission to broadcast music or video. Before streaming a playlist, make sure you have the rights or permissions needed for the recordings, compositions, artwork, and other material it contains. A live stream may be interrupted or receive a copyright claim if it includes protected material without authorization. Review the copyright safety checklist before scheduling a long-running playlist.
