How to Set Parental Controls and Purchase Limits in Disney Magic Kingdoms

By VGSources Team 9 min read

If you mean Gameloft’s Disney Magic Kingdoms, the reliable way to control spending is through the store or console account that processes the charge. On iPhone or iPad, Screen Time can block in-app purchases or require authentication every time. On Android, Google Play can require authentication for every purchase on the device. Nintendo Switch and PlayStation use their own family-management tools, with PlayStation offering a documented monthly spending limit. The game’s support guidance does not establish one universal, cross-platform game PIN or allowance system.

The title “Disney’s new game” is ambiguous. These instructions target Disney Magic Kingdoms, the Disney game covered by the available official help guidance. A different Disney title may use different menus or payment systems.

Start with the account that will be charged

A parental-control setting only works when it matches the account and payment route used for the purchase. Before changing anything, identify where the child plays and which store appears at checkout:

  • iPhone or iPad: Apple’s App Store billing and iOS Screen Time controls.
  • Android phone or tablet: Google Play billing and Google Play purchase authentication.
  • Nintendo Switch: Nintendo’s console controls or the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app.
  • PlayStation: PlayStation Family Management and its Monthly Spending Limit control.
  • Another device or store: Check the game publisher and the device manufacturer, as the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recommends.

Do not assume that a restriction on one platform follows the child to another. A control configured for Google Play does not govern a Nintendo or PlayStation account, and a console setting does not automatically govern purchases made on a phone.

Which control should you use?

Platform Documented control What it changes Best fit
iPhone or iPad Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > iTunes & App Store Purchases Set In-App Purchases to Don’t Allow, or set the password requirement to Always Require. Blocking all in-app purchases or requiring a password for each purchase.
Android Google Play Store > Menu > Settings > Require Authentication For Purchases Select For all purchases through Google Play on this device. Requiring authentication for every Google Play purchase on the device.
Nintendo Switch Nintendo Switch console controls or Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app Nintendo identifies purchase restrictions as a platform capability where supported, alongside content, play-time and selected-feature restrictions. Managing a child’s Switch use and supported purchase activity through Nintendo’s family controls.
PlayStation PlayStation Family Management > Monthly Spending Limit Sets the child account’s monthly spending limit. Allowing a defined monthly amount instead of permitting unrestricted spending.

The documented options differ in friction. Don’t Allow is a complete block for iOS in-app purchases. Always Require and Google Play’s all-purchases setting leave buying available but put an authentication step in front of it. PlayStation’s monthly limit is an allowance-style control. Nintendo’s documentation confirms purchase restrictions as a capability where supported, but the exact purchase menu and limits depend on the current Nintendo family-management implementation.

iPhone and iPad: block purchases or require a password

Gameloft’s Disney Magic Kingdoms help guidance points iOS players to Screen Time rather than to a universal in-game spending dashboard.

  1. Open Settings on the iPhone or iPad.
  2. Choose Screen Time. If Screen Time is not active, turn it on and complete Apple’s setup prompts.
  3. Open Content & Privacy Restrictions.
  4. Choose iTunes & App Store Purchases.
  5. Under the in-app purchase control, choose one of the documented options:
    • Don’t Allow: blocks in-app purchases on the restricted device.
    • Always Require: keeps purchases available but requires the account password whenever a purchase is attempted.

Choosing between the two iOS options

Use Don’t Allow when the child should not be able to spend money in the game at all. This is the least ambiguous setting: a purchase attempt is blocked rather than handed to the child for approval.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use Always Require when you want to approve occasional purchases yourself. The password requirement is useful only if the child does not know the password and cannot complete the authentication step through another enabled method. Keep the account credentials private and enter them yourself when you have decided to approve a purchase.

Check the result without completing a charge

After saving the setting, open the game on the child’s device and proceed only far enough to display the purchase prompt. With Don’t Allow, the transaction should be blocked. With Always Require, the purchase flow should stop at authentication. Cancel before confirming a charge. If no restriction appears, check that you changed the settings on the device and account actually used for the game.

Android: require authentication for every Google Play purchase

On Android, the documented route is a Google Play Store setting that applies to purchases made through Google Play on that device.

  1. Open the Google Play Store.
  2. Open Menu, then choose Settings.
  3. Choose Require Authentication For Purchases.
  4. Select For all purchases through Google Play on this device.
  5. Complete the authentication setup. If fingerprint authentication is enabled, Google Play may ask for the account password during setup.

What this Android setting covers

The wording is important: the setting requires authentication for all purchases through Google Play on that device. It is not described as a password setting inside Disney Magic Kingdoms, and it does not govern purchases made through a different store or console.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This is an approval gate, not a monthly allowance. Each purchase still requires authentication, but the documented guidance does not describe a separate dollar cap for Disney Magic Kingdoms on Android.

If the child uses more than one Android device

Apply the setting on every Android device where the relevant Google Play account can be used. The documented option is explicitly tied to “this device,” so do not assume that configuring one phone or tablet changes another device automatically.

Nintendo Switch: use Nintendo’s family controls

Nintendo handles Switch restrictions through the console’s parental-controls features or the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app. Nintendo describes these controls as able to restrict content, set play-time limits and restrict selected features; its overview also identifies purchase restrictions as a platform capability where supported.

  1. Choose whether you will configure controls from the Nintendo Switch console or the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app.
  2. Open the parental-controls setup and select the child’s Switch or child profile that uses the game.
  3. Review the available restrictions, including purchase-related controls if they are presented for the account and region.
  4. Save the settings and keep the parental-control authentication information private.
  5. On the child’s profile, start the game and verify that a purchase attempt is blocked or requires the parent’s authorization. Stop before confirming any transaction.

Why the Nintendo wording matters

Nintendo’s documentation describes purchase restrictions as available where supported; it does not establish one identical purchase-limit menu for every Switch configuration. The exact labels can change with Nintendo software updates, account type and region. If you do not see a purchase option, use the current parental-controls guidance for the console and check which account is linked to the child’s activity.

Because the control is administered by Nintendo, changing Screen Time on an iPad or authentication in Google Play will not protect a purchase made on the Switch.

PlayStation: set a monthly spending limit in Family Management

PlayStation documents a Monthly Spending Limit as part of its Family Management controls. This is the platform’s allowance-style option for a child account.

  1. Open PlayStation’s family-management settings.
  2. Add the child to PlayStation Family Management if the child is not already listed there.
  3. Select the child account and locate Monthly Spending Limit.
  4. Set the monthly amount you are willing to allow, using the current value controls shown by PlayStation.
  5. Save the setting and verify that the game is being played under that child account rather than an adult account.

How the PlayStation limit differs from a password gate

A monthly limit is not the same as requiring a password for every purchase. It defines the amount available to the child account over a month. PlayStation lists it alongside age-level, playtime, communication and service controls, so review the other family settings if the goal is broader supervision than spending alone.

The limit applies through PlayStation Family Management. It does not create a universal cap for the same game on iOS, Android or Nintendo Switch.

If you cannot find a purchase setting

The FTC’s Kids and Video Games guidance says to check both the game publisher and the device manufacturer. Its consumer guidance explains that in-game purchase restrictions can block spending, require a password or set a dollar limit, depending on the game and platform.

  1. Identify the billing route. Look at the device where the purchase would occur and the store named in the checkout flow.
  2. Check the publisher’s support page. Search the exact game title, device and “in-app purchases” or “parental controls.” Do not assume instructions for another Disney game apply.
  3. Check the platform’s family controls. Use the account-management tools for Apple, Google Play, Nintendo or PlayStation, whichever processes the charge.
  4. Confirm the child account. A restriction attached to a child profile will not necessarily govern activity performed on an unrestricted adult account.
  5. Verify before spending. Start a purchase flow, look for the block, password prompt or limit message, and cancel before final confirmation.

Common failure points and fixes

The game still offers a one-tap purchase

Check whether the game is running on a different device or account from the one you configured. Also confirm that the purchase is routed through the store covered by the setting. A Google Play restriction cannot control a Nintendo transaction, and an iOS Screen Time setting cannot control a PlayStation account.

The child knows the authentication credential

A password requirement only adds protection if the child cannot authenticate independently. Change or secure the relevant account credential, keep it private, and do not enable an approval method the child can use without you.

You expected a spending cap but found only a block or password prompt

The documented Disney Magic Kingdoms guidance does not establish a universal in-game allowance or spending dashboard. iOS offers a block or repeated password requirement; Android offers authentication for all Google Play purchases on the device; PlayStation documents a monthly limit; Nintendo exposes purchase restrictions where supported. Select the platform control that matches the type of friction you need.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A menu label does not match these instructions

Apple, Google, Nintendo and PlayStation can change navigation labels. Follow the same path conceptually—family or parental controls, then purchase restrictions—but use the current wording shown on your device. The publisher’s help page also cautions that platform menus are the enforcement point.

Limits of what is documented for Disney Magic Kingdoms

The available game-specific guidance documents store-level restrictions for iOS and Android. It does not establish a universal game-level PIN that works across every platform, nor does it document one cross-platform spending dashboard or allowance. For that reason, treat the store or console family account as the enforcement point.

These controls also should not be confused with streaming-profile restrictions or child modes in other Disney services. Those settings govern access to streaming content, not purchases made inside a game.

A practical setup checklist

  • Write down the device where the child plays Disney Magic Kingdoms.
  • Identify whether the charge would go through Apple, Google Play, Nintendo or PlayStation.
  • Choose the desired friction: block all purchases, require authentication, or set a monthly allowance where the platform supports one.
  • Apply the control to the child’s actual device and account.
  • Keep the parent account password or approval credential private.
  • Test the purchase flow without completing a transaction.
  • Repeat the check after moving the game to another platform or signing in with another account.

For iPhone and iPad, the strongest documented no-spend setting is Don’t Allow. For Android, select authentication for all Google Play purchases on the device. On PlayStation, use Family Management’s Monthly Spending Limit when a recurring allowance is appropriate. On Nintendo Switch, configure the available purchase restrictions through the console controls or parental-controls app. If the game is on another platform, follow the FTC’s advice and check both the publisher and the device manufacturer.
