In Windows 11, open Settings > System > Display > Advanced display, choose the 200Hz monitor if more than one display is connected, then select 200Hz from the refresh-rate menu if it is available. The same page shows the selected display’s current resolution and refresh rate. Microsoft says the options depend on the display and its supported capabilities. Microsoft Support.
Set the monitor to 200Hz in Windows 11
- Open Settings > System > Display > Advanced display.
- If multiple screens are connected, use the display selector to choose the monitor you want to configure. Check the screen identity before changing a setting; otherwise you may adjust the laptop panel or a different monitor.
- Find Choose a refresh rate (the wording can vary slightly by Windows build) and select 200Hz if it appears.
- Read the information for the selected display on the Advanced display page. Confirm that it reports a refresh rate of 200Hz and check the current resolution.
Microsoft’s instructions apply to Windows 11 and Windows 10, and say that the rates shown depend on the display and what it supports. If 200Hz is absent, this page does not provide a way to force an unsupported mode. Microsoft Support.
Check the resolution after choosing a rate
Windows marks refresh rates that do not support the current resolution with an asterisk. Selecting one of those starred rates changes the display resolution to obtain that refresh rate. After changing modes, return to the Advanced display information and verify both values: the refresh rate and a resolution you are willing to use. Microsoft Support.
If 200Hz is missing from the menu
- Recheck the selected screen. With more than one display attached, confirm Advanced display is showing the monitor you intend to configure.
- Check the available modes, not just the target rate. The Windows list reflects the display’s supported capabilities; an absent 200Hz option is not evidence of a hidden Windows toggle.
- Check the resolution alongside the rate. A starred entry changes resolution when selected, so do not treat the refresh-rate number as the only consideration.
The Microsoft guidance cited here does not establish that a particular cable, adapter, graphics card, or monitor setting is the cause when 200Hz is unavailable. The right next step depends on the exact monitor and computer configuration.

Windows 10: same setting, legacy support status
On Windows 10, the refresh-rate setting is also under Settings > System > Display > Advanced display. Windows 10 does not support Dynamic Refresh Rate. Microsoft ended Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025; after that date, free Windows Update software updates, technical assistance, and security fixes are no longer provided, although the PC continues to work. Microsoft Support.

A 200Hz setting describes the selected display refresh mode; it does not guarantee that a game will render or sustain 200 frames per second. Windows 11’s Dynamic Refresh Rate (DRR) is a separate feature that automatically adjusts refresh rate based on activity. Microsoft says DRR requires compatible hardware, VRR support, and a display rate of at least 120Hz, and notes that it can limit maximum refresh rate in some games. Selecting a 200Hz mode in Advanced display should not be confused with enabling DRR or confirming a game’s frame rate. Microsoft Support.
