To run ocean sounds continuously on YouTube Live, loop a local audio or video file in OBS, connect OBS to a YouTube stream using the stream URL and stream key, then test and monitor the broadcast. For several recordings, OBS’s VLC Video source can loop a playlist. Keep the computer, power and internet connection running for a local setup, and use only audio and visuals you have permission to stream.
Before you start: check eligibility and rights
Make sure the channel can go live
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before your planned launch. YouTube’s current workflow is in YouTube Help’s live-streaming guide; its encoder setup is described in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Clear the audio and visual rights
Use a recording and any accompanying visuals that you made yourself or are licensed to use for a YouTube livestream. Keep the source, license terms, attribution requirements and any commercial-use restrictions. The recording of ocean sounds may carry rights separate from music or other material in the recording, and a video loop or still image may have its own rights. YouTube describes permission, public-domain material and applicable Creative Commons licenses as possible routes, but none guarantees avoiding a Content ID claim or copyright strike. Prepare and test the ocean-sounds media
Choose a file and check its loop
For a single recording, use an audio file or a video whose audio track contains the intended ambience. Play it through its end and back to the beginning before streaming. Listen for silence, clicks, abrupt changes in loudness or a noticeable break in the surf; if the visual loops too, check for a jarring jump. This is a practical check, not a guarantee that every file will loop seamlessly.

Keep local source files available during the broadcast. If you intend to use a sequence of recordings, decide whether they should play in a fixed order or shuffle; test transitions and levels between every clip you plan to include.
Use OBS’s loop controls
OBS supports looping one file with Media Source. For a playlist, use VLC Video; OBS requires VLC to be installed, and 64-bit OBS needs a matching 64-bit VLC installation for the source to appear. Consult the OBS Media Sources guide for supported media types and source controls.

- In OBS, create or select a scene, then add a Media Source and choose the local file. Enable Loop in the source settings.
- For multiple files, add a VLC Video source, build the playlist and enable Loop Playlist. Enable Shuffle Playlist only if you want the clips to rotate in a different order.
- Add or arrange the ocean visual in the scene, whether it is a still image or video. Confirm the intended source is visible and that the scene looks right.
- Play the scene and listen to the output. Check that the OBS audio mixer meter moves, then listen to the actual output rather than relying on the meter alone.
Create the YouTube Live stream and connect OBS
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live. Use the Stream tab to set up a stream, or schedule one through Manage. Follow the current encoder instructions if the interface labels or steps differ.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room into OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: do not display it in a screen capture or share it with anyone.
- Start streaming from OBS and wait for YouTube’s preview. Check that both the picture and ocean audio arrive as intended. If you scheduled the stream, follow the Live Control Room prompt to go live when required.
- Before a public launch, run an unlisted or private test. Open the watch page on another device, including a phone if possible, and verify playback, audio, privacy setting and that the loop continues across a file boundary.
- Once the preview and test are correct, make the stream public or proceed with the scheduled launch in Live Control Room.
YouTube recommends testing and monitoring the stream. Its encoder guide lists OBS among software encoders and notes: “You do not need expensive equipment, what you have at hand will do.”
Keep a local 24/7 stream running
A local OBS broadcast depends on the computer and its network connection staying available. Plan for operating-system updates, power or internet interruptions, OBS closing unexpectedly, and media playback stopping. YouTube recommends monitoring audio and video quality, but the reviewed setup guidance does not establish one universal automatic recovery configuration for OBS.

- Check the YouTube watch page after launch, not just the OBS preview or mixer.
- Listen periodically for missing audio, clipping, a stalled file or an abrupt transition.
- If you are recording locally, check that the recording file is being written and growing.
- Decide who will notice and respond if the encoder or connection stops. Test reconnection behavior rather than assuming an unattended stream will resume correctly.
Plan separately for the replay
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That rule does not promise a complete replay of a continuous 24-hour broadcast or establish a universal maximum stream duration. If a full replay matters, verify YouTube’s current behavior before launch and consider recording locally or dividing the broadcast into segments. YouTube’s API documentation includes a 24/7 broadcast as a technical example, but that is not a guarantee of uninterrupted operation or complete archiving.
Choose the operating setup that fits
The practical choice is who will keep the stream running and how much control you need over the playlist. YouTube’s encoder guide also lists cloud and hardware options, but a directory listing is not a reliability test, endorsement or price comparison.
