To run a lofi radio stream from OBS on Windows 11, prepare an eligible YouTube channel, build an OBS scene with a visual and music you have permission to broadcast, configure YouTube’s recommended encoder settings, then test the complete stream before leaving it unattended. A single stream lasting more than 12 hours may not be archived by YouTube, and a Windows PC setup is not guaranteed to recover from every outage.
Before you set up the stream
Confirm your channel can go live
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days, and live streamers must be at least 16. Check live access in YouTube Studio before configuring OBS; if YouTube says live streaming is not ready, follow the activation prompts there. The OBS guide has described a wait of up to 24 hours for new activation, but check the current Studio status rather than relying on a universal timeline. Gather the visual, audio, and connection
- Choose a static image or subtle animation for the lofi scene. Keep the visual simple enough to encode reliably on your PC.
- Use music you created or have permission to use for both the live broadcast and any replay. Confirm the license covers your intended territories and monetization.
- Check that your internet connection has stable upload capacity above the stream’s bitrate, leaving headroom for fluctuations and other network use.
- Decide whether you need a YouTube replay. Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured, so plan a local recording and adequate storage or schedule shorter broadcasts if an archive matters.
Build the lofi scene in OBS
- Install OBS Studio. Download it from the official OBS Project website and use the Quick Start Guide for current setup basics.
- Create a scene. In the Scenes panel, add a scene for the broadcast. Use Sources to add the visual and an audio source for your music. Arrange and preview them in the OBS canvas; verify the audio meter moves and the image appears as intended.
- Check audio levels. Listen to the stream mix through OBS monitoring or a test broadcast. Make sure the music is audible without clipping, and that no other desktop audio or microphone source is unintentionally included.
- Keep the source arrangement simple. A static image avoids unnecessary motion; if using animation, confirm it continues during a test. OBS source-loop behavior can depend on the media source and current software version, so verify that your visual and music continue rather than assuming a source repeats automatically.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Studio and create or schedule a live stream using YouTube’s current live control room.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream. Choose the current YouTube service or integration, then connect the account if that option is available. If you use a stream key instead, copy the key from YouTube’s live setup into OBS.
- Keep the stream key private. Anyone with access to it may be able to send a broadcast to your channel. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- Start streaming from OBS for a private or otherwise suitable test, and confirm the incoming preview and stream health in YouTube Studio before making the broadcast public.
OBS and YouTube periodically change their interfaces, so use the labels shown in the current versions rather than relying on old screenshots.
Choose stable video and audio settings
YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted ingestion and supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video. For a straightforward OBS setup, H.264 is a practical choice when supported by your encoder. Set a constant bitrate (CBR), use a two-second keyframe interval, and do not exceed four seconds. YouTube lists AAC or MP3 for audio; for stereo it specifies 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. These are YouTube’s published H.264 ingest figures, not a guarantee that a particular PC or connection can sustain them. For a mostly static lofi scene, 720p30 is a reasonable lower-bandwidth starting point; use 1080p30 if your connection and encoder can sustain the recommended rate. In OBS, set the output resolution and frame rate to match the format you choose, select CBR, and enter the corresponding bitrate. If the stream shows dropped frames or unstable health, reduce the output load and test again.
Test the stream before relying on it
- Run an upload-speed test while the network is in normal use. Make sure the available upload capacity comfortably exceeds the chosen bitrate.
- Send a test using similar audio and visual motion to the intended broadcast. Confirm in YouTube Studio that the preview arrives and stream health is good.
- Listen for distortion, silence, unexpected desktop sounds, or interruptions. Check the visual for unintended black frames or source stoppage.
- Monitor YouTube’s stream-health messages and OBS statistics during the test. Resolve warnings before treating the setup as ready.
- Test what happens after a brief internet interruption or OBS restart if you plan to operate unattended. A desktop configuration is not a promise of automatic recovery.
Keep a Windows 11 stream running
OBS can send the broadcast only while the PC, power, internet connection, OBS process, and media sources remain available. Before a long session, review Windows power and sleep behavior, system updates and restart timing, available disk space, and whether the source files remain accessible. Exact Windows controls vary by build and device; verify the active settings on your own PC. Arrange a way to check the stream and restart it if needed. Do not describe one OBS installation on a home PC as guaranteed unattended uptime.

A single continuous broadcast is simplest for viewers, but YouTube says streams over 12 hours may not be captured at all. Its archive guidance says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived and recommends making a local backup. If replay availability matters, record locally and ensure the disk has enough free space, or plan shorter sessions while accounting for the interruption when you restart.
Clear the music rights before going live
You are responsible for having the rights needed to use material in a YouTube broadcast. A track that is available for personal listening or appears in a video library is not automatically cleared for a 24/7 live stream and replay. Check the license for live streaming, archived playback, territory, and monetization.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. Detection can trigger a warning, interruption, or termination. Even if you have a license, the rights holder may need to allowlist your channel for live use. YouTube explains this in its copyright guidance for live streams and Terms of Service. Its Audio Library guidance describes its own music and sound effects; Creator Music availability and terms can vary by region and eligibility.
Troubleshooting common problems
- YouTube Studio does not show an incoming signal: Confirm the correct YouTube destination is selected, the current stream key is copied accurately, and OBS is actively streaming. Reset an exposed or outdated key in YouTube Studio.
- Stream health is poor or frames are dropping: Check upload stability and encoder load. Leave more network headroom or lower resolution, frame rate, and bitrate to a setting the connection and PC can sustain.
- The picture is present but music is silent: Check the selected audio source, OBS mixer meter, mute state, and audio output settings. Make a fresh test after correcting the source.
- The visual freezes or the music stops: Confirm the source file is accessible and the source behaves as intended throughout a test. Recheck after OBS or Windows restarts rather than assuming playback resumes.
- The live stream is interrupted for copyright: Review YouTube’s notice and the track’s specific license. Remove or replace material without the required rights; if it is licensed, ask the rights holder about channel allowlisting.
- The broadcast ends and no replay appears: A session longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Use a local recording backup or keep sessions below the platform’s threshold if a replay is important.
