Create a stream in YouTube Studio, put its server URL and stream key into the encoder, and start the feed. For a channel intended to run continuously, plan for operator monitoring and split broadcasts: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, but does not guarantee that a longer stream will be saved as one complete video.
Before you start
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. First-time enablement may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave it until just before a scheduled launch. YouTube’s encoder streaming guide describes the setup.
- A prerecorded video or playlist, plus an encoder that can play the material and send it to YouTube. YouTube supports encoder software on a computer and standalone hardware encoders; it does not require one particular device model.
- A stable internet connection and a plan to monitor the encoder and Live Control Room. The official setup guidance does not prescribe an India-specific bandwidth target or promise unattended continuity.
- Permission to use every video and audio element in the broadcast, and a format that adds original value if you intend to apply for monetization.
Set up the stream in YouTube Studio
- Enable live streaming. If this is your channel’s first live stream, enable the feature in YouTube Studio and allow for the possibility that activation takes up to 24 hours.
- Create or schedule a broadcast. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create a new stream or schedule one. Scheduling gives you a shareable watch page and lets viewers set reminders. Check the current labels in Studio, as its interface may change.
- Copy the ingest details. In the stream setup, copy the YouTube server URL and stream key. YouTube’s instruction is to enter those into your encoder. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your stream. If it is exposed, reset it using YouTube’s stream settings before broadcasting again. See YouTube’s stream-key guidance.
- Configure your encoder. Select YouTube or a custom RTMP/RTMPS destination, then enter the server URL and key exactly as provided. Choose a local software encoder or compatible hardware encoder based on the video source, its continuous-run capability, the monitoring and restart options you need, and total equipment or service cost. YouTube’s general documentation does not establish a universal bitrate, resolution, keyframe interval, or computer specification for every encoder; follow the current guidance for the encoder you choose and YouTube’s ingest settings.
- Start the feed and inspect it. Start playback and transmission in the encoder. For a scheduled workflow, wait for the preview in Live Control Room, check that picture and audio are correct, then select “Go live.” Do not assume the stream is running correctly merely because the encoder says it is connected.
Choose settings for a prerecorded broadcast
Latency
Latency is the delay between the feed and what viewers see. YouTube notes that lower latency can increase playback buffering. A prerecorded music, ambient, or gameplay loop usually does not need real-time audience interaction, so prioritize stable playback if viewers are not relying on live conversation.
DVR
With DVR enabled, viewers can pause, rewind, and resume during a live stream. Decide whether late arrivals should be able to seek back through material already broadcast, and configure DVR accordingly in the stream settings.
Auto-start and auto-stop
YouTube provides auto-start and auto-stop controls, and reused stream settings carry those selections forward. Confirm the settings match your intended process before relying on them. These controls do not replace monitoring the encoder connection or checking that the stream remains live.

RTMPS
If your encoder supports it and your workflow calls for secure ingestion, use YouTube’s RTMPS endpoint. YouTube describes RTMPS as RTMP tunneled through SSL and specifies port 443 for RTMPS connections. Consult YouTube’s recommended encoder settings and the encoder’s own instructions for the current endpoint details.
Plan continuity and archives for a 24/7 channel
YouTube states that “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” That guarantee is limited to streams under 12 hours; it does not establish that a longer broadcast will become one complete video. For a channel designed to run all day, plan separate broadcast segments and decide how you will handle the resulting archives. Verify current Live Control Room behavior before depending on a single long broadcast or a particular archive workflow.

Neither an encoder nor YouTube’s general setup guide establishes a guaranteed method for endless uninterrupted looping. Build a practical operating plan around your chosen encoder: test the playlist’s repeat behavior, monitor the YouTube preview and live status, and determine how an operator will notice and restart playback or transmission if either stops. Include your actual device, network, and restart process in a trial run before treating the setup as unattended.
Protect the channel’s monetization eligibility
Running prerecorded videos live does not by itself guarantee YouTube Partner Program acceptance or ad revenue. YouTube says monetized content should be original and authentic; generic, repetitive, or mass-produced content may be ineligible. Reused material may also be ineligible when the channel lacks significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. The review can consider the channel as a whole, including its theme, most-viewed and newest videos, watch-time distribution, metadata, and About section. The current YPP overview lists an ad-revenue eligibility route of 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the prior 12 months or 10 million qualified Shorts views in the prior 90 days. Those thresholds do not guarantee acceptance: other requirements and a channel review apply, and eligibility can change. Check the channel’s Earn tab and the current official YPP page before relying on the figures.
Clear the rights to all footage, music, and other audio or visual material before streaming. Having permission to use a video is not the same as meeting YouTube’s originality and reused-content rules. YouTube’s India-facing earning guidance also notes that feature-specific criteria apply and earnings may be subject to taxes in the creator’s country of residence; it does not determine an individual’s Indian tax obligations. Check the current monetization policy information and India-facing earning guidance, and seek individual tax advice for your circumstances.

Troubleshoot common setup problems
- Live streaming is not available yet: first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours. Wait for activation and confirm the channel is eligible to use live streaming in Studio.
- The encoder cannot connect: check that the server URL and stream key were copied correctly, that the selected destination matches the encoder mode, and that the encoder is using the current endpoint. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube rather than continuing with a compromised key.
- Studio shows no usable preview: confirm the encoder is actually sending the feed and that its video and audio sources are active. Wait for the preview, then verify picture and sound before selecting “Go live.”
- Viewers report buffering: latency settings involve a trade-off; YouTube warns lower latency can mean more playback buffering. Review the latency choice and check the encoder’s current settings and connection rather than assuming a single bitrate will suit every setup.
- The stream or archive ends unexpectedly: inspect encoder and Live Control Room status, then review auto-start/auto-stop settings. Do not expect a single complete automatic archive for a broadcast longer than 12 hours.
- Monetization is refused or limited: review the channel-wide originality, authenticity, and reused-content standards, as well as rights clearance and the current YPP eligibility rules. Watch hours alone do not ensure acceptance.
