You can broadcast a church playlist continuously on YouTube by sending a looping audio-and-video feed from an encoder to YouTube Live. Before you start, confirm that the church has the necessary rights for every recording, live broadcast, and any archive. Then create the stream in YouTube Studio, connect an encoder with the stream URL and key, test it, and plan for scheduled restarts: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived.

1. Confirm music and visual rights before building the stream

Make a track-by-track inventory of the playlist. For every song, identify the specific recording or version and its owner or label, then confirm that the church has permission for online live streaming and any archived replay in the territories where viewers may watch. Ordinary worship permissions, access to a recording, or permission to play a song in person do not by themselves establish those rights.

YouTube’s live-stream terms put responsibility on the content provider: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” This is YouTube’s contractual allocation of responsibility, not a determination of which licenses apply in a particular country. Ask the church’s licensing administrator and relevant rights holders to verify the permissions; this article cannot determine the status of an individual playlist.

YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party content. A match can replace the feed with a placeholder, interrupt the stream, or terminate it. Even if the church has permission, ask the rights holder whether the channel needs to be added to its Content ID allowlist; YouTube says licensed content may still be interrupted without that step. Do not assume a song is copyright-free because it is religious or Punjabi, or that a consumer music subscription grants rebroadcast rights. YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance explains its matching and allowlisting process, while YouTube’s terms set out the content provider’s rights responsibility.

Check the visual material too

A live stream needs a video feed even when the main content is music. A church-created still image or simple motion background with the playlist title and church information can work. Confirm permission for every image, font, logo, animation, and other visual element. Do not use a third-party lyric video, music video, or artwork without permission.

2. Choose how to keep the playlist running

YouTube Live accepts an encoder feed from software or standalone hardware; a dedicated encoder appliance is optional, not a prerequisite. For a simple playlist with a static visual, software that can reliably loop the media is a reasonable starting point. A hardware encoder may suit a dedicated installation, but verify that it fits the church’s production and connection setup before buying it. YouTube’s encoder overview also names cloud services for 24/7 prerecorded-video or live-video workflows; that is not an endorsement, so check any service’s current capabilities, cost, and rights workflow before relying on it.

3. Create the YouTube Live event

  1. Sign in to the church’s YouTube channel and open YouTube Studio.
  2. Select Create, then Go Live to open the Live Control Room.
  3. Create or schedule a stream. Scheduling can make a watch page available in advance. If the channel has never streamed live before, enablement may take up to 24 hours, so do this well before the intended broadcast.
  4. Keep the Live Control Room open for the encoder details, preview, stream health, and any warnings.

See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions for the current workflow and channel-specific options.

4. Connect the encoder and prepare a test feed

  1. In the encoder’s streaming settings, enter the YouTube stream server URL and stream key shown for the event in the Live Control Room.
  2. Treat the stream key like a password. It lets the encoder send a feed to your YouTube event; do not publish it, put it in a public document, or share it beyond people who need to configure the stream. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before broadcasting.
  3. Route the playlist audio and the church-approved visual loop into the encoder. Check that the correct event and channel are selected.
  4. Start the encoder and check the Live Control Room preview. Confirm the audience-facing watch page is accessible and listen to it on a separate device, not only through the encoder’s local output.

5. Set conservative video and network settings

YouTube’s encoder guidance lists H.264 video and AAC or MP3 audio among supported settings and recommends constant bitrate (CBR). For H.264 at 1080p and 30 fps, YouTube lists a recommended video bitrate of 5 Mbps. A music-led stream with a static visual may not need 1080p; choosing a lower resolution can reduce network demand, but test the actual encoded picture and playback before relying on it.

  • Equipped with a blazing fast Core i5 2.00 GHz processor.

YouTube recommends about 20% spare upload capacity beyond the bitrate being sent. For example, a feed sent at 5 Mbps calls for roughly 6 Mbps of available upload capacity under that recommendation. Leave additional room if other devices share the connection, and test at the location and time the church expects to stream. Use YouTube’s streaming tips and encoder settings guidance to check current recommendations; settings and options can change.

Test representative sections of the actual playlist, including the loudest and quietest songs, transitions, and any motion in the visual. Check that audio is audible without clipping or unintended silence, the picture remains stable, and the Live Control Room reports healthy delivery. A successful local preview does not prove that viewers receive a stable stream.

6. Go live, monitor, and handle interruptions

  1. Start the encoder and wait for the Live Control Room preview and health status to indicate that the feed is reaching YouTube.
  2. For a scheduled event, use the Live Control Room’s Go Live control when the preview is ready, if that workflow requires it.
  3. Check the public watch page from a separate device. Confirm that both sound and picture reach viewers.
  4. During the broadcast, monitor stream health, audio, video, and any copyright notifications. If YouTube flags material, follow the channel’s rights-holder and platform process rather than assuming that restarting alone resolves the underlying match.

Keep a person responsible for monitoring the stream and able to act if the encoder, connection, or YouTube delivery fails. A continuous playlist still needs an operational plan for outages and transitions.

7. Plan what “continuous” means on YouTube

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not establish that a single stream can run indefinitely or that one archive will cover a longer broadcast. Plan a controlled stop-and-restart cadence, tell viewers when a transition may occur, and decide whether the church wants each segment archived. Before launch, check the channel’s Live Control Room and YouTube’s current streaming and archive guidance for applicable behavior and restrictions.

Common problems and fixes

  • Live streaming is not available: Enable live streaming in YouTube Studio ahead of time. First-time enablement may take up to 24 hours.
  • The encoder cannot connect: Check that the server URL and stream key belong to the intended event, that the encoder is sending to YouTube, and that the connection is available. If the key may have been exposed, reset it.
  • The preview is unstable or stream health is poor: Check upload capacity, reduce the video bitrate or resolution, and stop other heavy uploads on the shared connection. YouTube recommends roughly 20% spare upload capacity beyond the outgoing bitrate.
  • The stream has sound or picture problems: Confirm the correct audio and visual sources are routed to the encoder, inspect the Live Control Room preview, and listen or watch on another device. Test playlist transitions, not just a single song.
  • YouTube interrupts the broadcast for a copyright match: Review the warning and contact the relevant rights holder. Confirm that the channel is covered by the necessary permissions and, where required, added to the rights holder’s Content ID allowlist. A restart does not replace permission.
  • The broadcast reaches its planned end or archive expectations are unclear: Use a planned segment length and controlled restart rather than assuming an indefinite single stream or archive. Recheck the channel’s current Live Control Room guidance.

Or let it run in the cloud

If the church does not want a computer and home internet connection running continuously, StreamNeo can keep uploaded videos looping to YouTube from the cloud. The setup is three steps: upload the recording or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and streams to YouTube only.

  • Nothing has to stay on at home; the stream runs in the cloud.
  • Videos stream as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot with no re-encode or quality tiers.
  • Automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream.
  • The first day is free with no card required, once per account.
  • Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, and StreamNeo team support. The same product is included on every plan; only the billing length changes.

Monthly: $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, then start the free first day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a Punjabi gospel song become copyright-free because it is used in church?

No. Religious use does not by itself establish that a song or recording is free to rebroadcast. The church needs to verify the permissions for its specific recordings, stream, territories, and any archive.

Do I need a dedicated hardware encoder?

No. YouTube accepts feeds from encoder software as well as standalone hardware. Hardware is optional.

Can I keep one YouTube live stream running indefinitely?

Do not assume so. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; plan a controlled restart cadence and check current channel guidance.
