To stream a Malayalam podcast on YouTube with OBS, first make sure your channel is eligible for live streaming, create or schedule a stream in YouTube Studio, then send OBS’s audio and video to YouTube using the stream URL and private stream key. For spoken-word audio, a practical starting point is H.264 at 1080p30 and 5 Mbps, with CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and stereo AAC at 128 kbps / 44.1 kHz. These are YouTube recommendations, not guaranteed settings for every computer or internet connection; test before your show.
Before you set up OBS
YouTube’s documented encoder workflow does not specify a separate Malayalam mode or technical requirement. Malayalam is the language of your show; OBS and YouTube handle stream delivery in the same way as for other spoken-word programs. Plan your show presentation—such as its title, description, and any on-screen text—in Malayalam if that suits your audience.
- Your YouTube channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days.
- YouTube’s current help page says you must be at least 16 to livestream.
- Install OBS and have an audio input ready. A microphone is useful for clear speech, but YouTube says you do not need expensive equipment to start.
Check YouTube’s current eligibility details in Get started with live streaming. The exact OBS controls can vary by version; use the OBS Quick Start Guide for initial setup.
Create or schedule your YouTube stream
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create, then Go Live.
- To begin setup for a stream now, use the Stream tab. To prepare an event in advance, go to Manage and choose Schedule Stream.
- Enter the event details: title, description, thumbnail, visibility, and schedule. A scheduled event creates a watch page you can share, and viewers can set reminders.
- Keep the Live Control Room open. You will copy the stream URL and key from it in a later step.
For YouTube’s encoder workflow and stream controls, see Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder and Manage live stream settings.

Build a simple podcast scene in OBS
- Follow the OBS Quick Start Guide to configure the software and create a scene for the show.
- Add the audio input that will carry your speech, then confirm OBS is using the intended microphone. Speak at your normal distance and check that the audio meter responds without clipping.
- Add only the visuals your format needs: for example, a camera, title card, guest view, image, or overlay. A static visual with clean speech audio can be enough for a podcast.
- If you use a camera, mixer, preamp, multiple microphones, or other equipment, check each source in OBS before the stream. YouTube describes these as possible encoder hardware, not required equipment.
Connect OBS to YouTube
- In YouTube Live Control Room, locate and copy the stream URL and stream key for the event.
- In OBS, open the stream settings. Select YouTube as the service if it is available; otherwise enter YouTube’s stream URL and key in the server and stream key fields.
- Choose RTMPS if it is offered. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted delivery.
- Keep the key private. YouTube treats a stream key like a password and address: do not show it in a screenshot or on air. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update OBS with the replacement.
Choose video and audio settings that will hold up
For a speech-led show, begin with the following YouTube-recommended settings. If your computer or upload connection struggles, lower the video resolution or bitrate rather than risk interrupted speech or dropped frames.
| Setting | Starting point | YouTube guidance |
|---|---|---|
| Video codec and rate control | H.264, CBR | YouTube’s encoder guidance specifies H.264 and CBR. |
| Resolution and frame rate | 1080p30 | YouTube recommends 5 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p30. For 720p30, its recommended rate is 3 Mbps. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | Recommended interval: 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds. |
| Audio codec | AAC | YouTube also lists MP3 as an option. |
| Stereo audio bitrate and sample rate | 128 kbps / 44.1 kHz | YouTube’s recommendation for stereo audio. |
The figures above are YouTube platform recommendations, not a performance guarantee for your setup. The current settings tables are in Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

- Positionable design: Pivot the mic in relation to the sound source to optimize your sound quality thanks to the adjustable desktop stand and track your voice in real time with no-latency monitoring
When to use 720p30 instead
Choose 720p30 if 1080p30 causes encoder overload, dropped frames, or network instability. YouTube’s recommended H.264 video bitrate for 720p30 is 3 Mbps. For a show centered on conversation rather than fine visual detail, stable delivery and intelligible audio matter more than pushing resolution.
Test the stream, then go live
- Set up the encoder at least two hours before the event and start sending the feed at least 15 minutes before it begins, as YouTube advises.
- Start streaming from OBS. In Live Control Room, wait for the preview and confirm it shows the intended scene and clean speech audio.
- Open the watch page and check playback there and on a mobile device. If the event is not ready for viewers, use an unlisted or private test to rehearse.
- Check stream health and monitor audio and video while the show is running. Leave upload headroom: YouTube recommends upload capacity 20% above the total stream bitrate. Include both feeds in that calculation if you use a primary and backup feed.
- For a scheduled stream, click Go live in YouTube after the preview appears. At the end, end the stream in YouTube and stop sending from OBS.
See YouTube’s streaming tips and YouTube live streaming tips for platform advice on connection checks and event preparation. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; see its encoder guide.

Copyright and stream presentation
Use music, clips, images, and other material only when you have the rights or permission needed for a YouTube livestream. A Malayalam-language show is not exempt from copyright rules. Before going live, check the material in your scene and any prerecorded segments, and make sure the title and description accurately describe the episode. The setup guidance cited here does not establish a special Malayalam metadata format or guarantee how YouTube will treat a particular piece of content.
Troubleshoot common setup problems
| What you see | What to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| No preview appears in Live Control Room | Confirm OBS is sending to the correct event with its current stream URL and key. | Recheck the server and key fields, then start the OBS stream again and wait for the preview. |
| YouTube rejects the key or does not receive the feed | The key may be incorrect, outdated, or reset. | Copy the current key from Live Control Room and replace the value in OBS. If the key was exposed, reset it before continuing. |
| Video stutters or frames drop | Compare the selected resolution and bitrate with your upload capacity and encoder load. | Try the 720p30 profile and its 3 Mbps recommended video bitrate, then test again. Check that upload capacity retains YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom over the total stream bitrate. |
| Speech is missing or too quiet | Verify OBS selected the intended microphone and that its audio meter responds when you speak. | Correct the input selection and run another private or unlisted test, checking playback on the watch page. |
| The scheduled show is not public | A preview in Live Control Room is not the same as starting the scheduled event. | Once the preview appears and the show is ready, click Go live in YouTube. |
