To run a Craft to Exile: Harmony server, download the matching Harmony server pack from its official CurseForge files page, extract it to a dedicated folder, use a compatible 64-bit Java runtime, accept the Minecraft EULA, and start the included Fabric server script. Every player must install the same Harmony release and loader on the client; the latest listed main release is CrafttoExile-Harmony-2.3.2 for Minecraft 1.16.5 Fabric.

What Craft to Exile: Harmony is

Craft to Exile [Harmony] is a Minecraft 1.16.X Fabric modpack built around the Age of Exile action-RPG progression system. Its advertised loop combines exploration, character development and looting rather than replacing Minecraft with a purely linear campaign. You establish a home base, leave on shorter excursions, improve your character and equipment, then return to prepare for the next trip.

Harmony is the more vanilla-like sister pack to Craft to Exile: Dissonance. The project describes Harmony as lighter in CPU load, with base defense and level-scaling mobs, while Dissonance is deeper and more linear. Harmony still adds a large amount of content: quests, team questing, enhanced dimensions, dungeons, storage, teleportation, fishing, alchemy, technology, ascendancies, a skill tree, unique items, gems and runewords.

The project states that official multiplayer servers are provided for both Craft to Exile packs. You can nevertheless self-host a private server by using the published server pack, which gives you control over the world, configuration, permissions and backups.

Choose the exact Minecraft, loader and pack release first

Harmony is not one interchangeable download. The official project page lists Minecraft 1.16.2 through 1.16.5 and provides both Forge and Fabric loader combinations. A client running one combination cannot reliably join a server running another.

File or combination What the official listing establishes Use it when
CrafttoExile-Harmony-2.3.2 Fabric pack for Minecraft 1.16.5; latest listed main file; dated December 10, 2021 You want the newest main Harmony release shown on the project page
Harmony 2.3.2 server pack Fabric server pack Your clients are using Harmony 2.3.2 on Fabric
Harmony 2.2.4b server pack Forge server pack Your clients are deliberately using the corresponding 2.2.4b Forge release
Harmony 2.1.2c server pack Forge server pack Your clients are deliberately using the corresponding 2.1.2c Forge release

For a new setup, the least ambiguous choice is the latest listed main file and its matching 2.3.2 Fabric server pack. If an existing world or community is tied to an older Forge release, keep that release instead of changing only the server or only the clients.

What you need before installing

  • A legitimate Minecraft account that can launch the 1.16.x pack.
  • A 64-bit Java runtime selected by the server launch script and by the client launcher. The Harmony wiki explicitly calls for 64-bit Java in its MultiMC instructions; it does not identify one universal Java major version for every operating system.
  • The exact Harmony client file and matching server file for the same release and loader.
  • A dedicated server directory with enough free disk space for the pack, generated world, logs and backups.
  • Permission to run a long-lived process on the computer or rented machine that will host the world.
  • Administrative access to configure server.properties, the whitelist and operator permissions.
  • A plan for how friends will reach the machine: a local network address for people in the same network, or a properly secured external connection for remote players.

Do not begin by downloading a random “server build” from a code repository. The official server repository contains the project files and explains that the server-pack download is on the CurseForge page; its README specifically says not to download the build from GitHub.

Download the correct Harmony server pack

  1. Open the official Craft to Exile [Harmony] files page on CurseForge.
  2. Identify the server file for the exact release and loader your group will use. For the current main listing, that means the 2.3.2 Fabric server pack for Minecraft 1.16.5.
  3. Download the server archive, not the ordinary client modpack ZIP. A client archive is missing or arranged differently from the files intended to launch a dedicated server.
  4. Save the archive locally and create a new folder dedicated to this world. Avoid placing the server inside a general Downloads folder where it can be confused with another release.
  5. Extract the entire archive into that folder. Preserve its directory structure, including the libraries, Fabric server launcher, server.jar, configuration, mods, EULA file and start script supplied by the pack.

The repository’s visible file layout is a useful sanity check: a complete server pack contains server libraries, a Fabric server launcher JAR, server.jar, configuration, mods, an EULA file and a start script. If those components are absent, you likely downloaded the wrong file or extracted only part of the archive.

Start the server and accept the EULA

  1. Open a terminal or command prompt in the extracted server directory.
  2. Confirm that the machine is using a 64-bit Java installation. If multiple Java installations are present, edit the start script or your system path so the script calls the intended 64-bit executable.
  3. Run the included start script once. The first run creates or completes generated files and may stop when the EULA has not yet been accepted.
  4. Read the generated eula.txt and accept the Minecraft EULA according to that file and Minecraft’s server rules before allowing players to connect. The Harmony sources include the file but do not publish a separate Harmony-specific EULA procedure; follow the wording and format supplied with your server.
  5. Run the same start script again. Watch the console for a normal server startup and a message indicating that the server is ready for commands. Keep this console window available while testing.

Do not delete the supplied libraries, launcher JAR, mods or configuration to “simplify” the installation. The pack’s loader and mod set depend on that layout. If the first launch fails, keep the log and correct the Java path, extraction or release mismatch before rebuilding the folder.

Set memory in the launch script

The project recommends at least 2 GB for the modpack with custom arguments. The Harmony wiki’s approximately 4 GB recommendation is a practical baseline for a launcher setup, not a guaranteed server requirement for every number of players, render distance or world-generation workload.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Open the included start script in a text editor and locate its memory options. Set the initial and maximum heap values there, using the syntax already present in the script. Allocate at least the project’s 2 GB starting point, then increase toward roughly 4 GB if the machine has spare memory and the server’s logs show garbage-collection pauses or out-of-memory errors. Leave memory for the operating system and any other services; assigning all physical RAM to Java can make the server less stable.

Change one variable at a time. First get a clean launch with the pack’s supplied script, then adjust heap size after observing actual use. A larger heap cannot compensate for a mismatched loader, an incompatible mod or an overloaded CPU.

Configure the world, access and network

Server properties

Stop the server cleanly from its console before editing files. Open server.properties and set the world name, difficulty, game mode, view distance and other options required by your group. Restart after saving so the server reads the changes. Keep a copy of the original file before making extensive edits.

Whitelist and permissions

Use the server console to add trusted players to the whitelist and grant operator status only to people who need administrative commands. A whitelist is especially important when the server is reachable beyond your home network. Test that an invited player can join while an unlisted account is refused.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Backups

Back up the world directory and the configuration before changing mods, loader versions or major settings. Stop the server before copying files so region data is not being written during the backup. Keep more than one dated backup and store at least one copy outside the live server directory.

Network access

Players on the same local network can usually connect using the host machine’s local address. Remote players require a reachable external address and appropriate firewall or router configuration. The canonical Harmony sources expose the server files but do not provide a complete port-forwarding or security guide, so treat those steps as general Minecraft administration and verify them for your router, operating system and internet provider.

  • The classic UNO card game builds fun on game night with a Minecraft theme.
  • UNO Minecraft features a deck and storage tin decorated with graphics from the popular video game.
  • Players match colors and numbers to the card on top of the discard pile as in the classic game.
  • The Creeper card unique to this deck forces other players to draw 3 cards.
  • Makes a great gift for kid, teen, adult and family game nights with 2 to 10 players ages 7 years and older, especially Minecraft and video game fans.

Do not publish the server address widely before the whitelist and firewall rules are in place. If your network changes addresses, consider a stable access method appropriate to your environment rather than repeatedly distributing a changing private address.

Install the matching client pack

Every player must launch the same Harmony release and loader as the server. The easiest route is a launcher that can install the modpack catalog entry, but the project also documents manual import through MultiMC.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

CurseForge App

  1. Install the CurseForge App and choose Minecraft.
  2. Open the modpack browser and search for “Craft to Exile.”
  3. Select the Harmony pack and choose the desired release. For a new 2.3.2 Fabric server, select the matching 2.3.2 Harmony profile rather than an older Forge file.
  4. Install the profile and launch it once. The first launch installs required components and requests Minecraft account login.
  5. After the title screen appears, quit and confirm that the launcher still points to the intended profile before attempting to join the server.

This method reduces manual file handling, but it does not remove the need to verify the version and loader shown in the profile. A launcher catalog can contain several historical combinations.

GDLauncher

  1. Install GDLauncher and sign in with a valid Minecraft account.
  2. Choose the option to add an instance.
  3. Select the CurseForge/Twitch catalog, search for Craft to Exile and choose Harmony.
  4. Download the same release used by the server.
  5. Launch the instance and check that the account, Java path and memory settings are valid.

The Harmony wiki says GDLauncher selects the correct Java version and allocates about 4 GB of RAM by default. Treat that as a launcher baseline: confirm the selected Java is 64-bit and reduce or increase memory if the computer cannot support the default alongside the operating system.

MultiMC

  1. Download the main Harmony file ZIP for the chosen release from the official CurseForge page.
  2. In MultiMC, import the ZIP as an instance rather than extracting random files into an unrelated profile.
  3. Open the instance’s Java settings and select a 64-bit Java installation.
  4. Set the maximum memory to about 4 GB as recommended by the Harmony wiki, leaving enough RAM for the operating system.
  5. Log in with the Minecraft account that owns the game and launch the instance.

Harmony includes Jumploader, a bundled mod that installs and runs Fabric for you. The project wiki therefore says Harmony players do not need to install Fabric separately. Installing a second, manually chosen Fabric loader can create duplicate or conflicting components.

Optional JVM arguments

After the launcher’s default arguments, the wiki recommends the following additional JVM arguments:

  • Now Minecraft lovers can play a special version of UNO!
  • Same as Basic UNO but features Minecraft characters and includes special Creeper rule card. Draw this card and the other players have to draw three more cards from the pile!
  • The goal is to get rid of all the cards in your hand.
  • First player or team to 500 wins.

Add them as one argument string in the launcher’s Java or JVM settings. Keep the launcher’s memory flags intact, and remove an argument only if the Java runtime rejects it or the launcher documents a conflict. These flags are optimization guidance from the project wiki, not a promise of identical frame rates or server tick performance on every machine.

Connect the first player and verify the installation

  1. Start the server and wait until its console reports a completed startup.
  2. Launch the client profile that matches the server’s release, Minecraft version and loader.
  3. Open the multiplayer screen and add the server’s local or external address, depending on where the player is connecting from.
  4. Join with one test account before inviting the full group.
  5. Confirm that the player can move, open inventories, accept a quest and travel without immediate disconnects.
  6. Have a second player join and test team questing, permissions and the whitelist.

A successful login proves that the basic loader and mod set agree, but it does not prove that every configuration change is safe. Make a backup after the first clean test and before adding optional mods or changing world-generation settings.

Match clients and server exactly

Check Client Server Why it matters
Harmony release Same numbered release selected in the launcher Corresponding server pack Different mod versions can reject the connection or corrupt expectations about content
Minecraft version The version shown by the selected profile The version targeted by the server pack Harmony files span 1.16.2 through 1.16.5
Loader Fabric or Forge, as required by the release The matching Fabric or Forge server pack Fabric and Forge files are separate combinations
Mods and configuration Pack-managed files, with no unapproved additions Pack-managed server files and configuration Extra or missing content can produce registry and handshake errors

When troubleshooting, record the exact profile name and loader displayed by each player. “Harmony” alone is not enough information because the project publishes several historical releases and both loader families.

Troubleshooting common failures

The server stops immediately or reports that Java is unsuitable

  • Check that the selected executable is 64-bit; the Harmony wiki specifically requires 64-bit Java for its MultiMC instructions.
  • Run the supplied start script from the server directory so relative library and configuration paths resolve correctly.
  • Do not replace the pack’s launcher files with a client-only Java command. Restore the original server layout if files were moved.
  • Reduce memory flags if the operating system cannot reserve the requested heap, or increase them toward the project’s guidance if the log shows an out-of-memory failure and the machine has capacity.

Players receive a missing-mod, registry or incompatible-version error

  • Compare the server pack and every client by release number, Minecraft version and loader.
  • Make sure a 2.3.2 Fabric client is not being used with a 2.2.4b or 2.1.2c Forge server pack.
  • Reinstall the launcher profile from the official pack listing instead of copying individual mods between instances.
  • Remove manually added mods until the unmodified Harmony profile connects successfully.

The client says Fabric is missing

For Harmony, Jumploader is bundled with the modpack and is intended to install and run Fabric. Verify that the complete Harmony profile was imported and that you did not remove Jumploader or replace the profile with a generic 1.16 instance. Manual Fabric installation is not required by the project’s documented Harmony route.

The server starts, but remote friends cannot connect

  • Test locally first to separate a mod or world problem from a network problem.
  • Confirm that the host firewall permits the server process and that the router rule points to the correct host machine.
  • Give remote players the externally reachable address, not a private local-network address.
  • Keep the whitelist enabled while testing and avoid exposing an unprotected server.

Performance is poor or the server experiences pauses

  • Check CPU load as well as Java heap use. Harmony is described as lighter in CPU load than Dissonance, but world generation, dimensions, dungeons and multiple players can still stress a host.
  • Use the project’s memory guidance as a starting point rather than assigning all available RAM to Java.
  • Reduce view distance or other server settings before adding more memory if CPU usage is the limiting factor.
  • Test the recommended JVM arguments only after the basic pack launches, so an argument problem is not confused with a modpack problem.

A world will not load after a change

Stop the server, restore the last known-good configuration or mod set, and test with a backup copy of the world. Do not experiment on the only copy. A release or loader change should be treated as a migration: preserve the original server directory and make a new backup before attempting it.

Harmony compared with Dissonance

The choice between the two Craft to Exile packs affects the kind of server you need to administer.

Axis Harmony Dissonance
Overall direction More vanilla-like exploration with a home base, shorter excursions and base defense Deeper and more linear progression
CPU load Official description characterizes it as lighter in CPU load Official description characterizes it as heavier than Harmony
Progression systems Age of Exile progression, quests, skill tree, ascendancies, uniques, gems and runewords Deeper progression structure according to the project comparison
Group play Team questing and multiplayer servers are supported Multiplayer servers are also provided by the project
Base play Base defense is an explicit emphasis More linear play rather than Harmony’s stated base-focused rhythm

For a small private group that wants exploration, loot and a defendable home without the most linear progression, Harmony is the appropriate project choice. The server setup procedure remains governed by the exact release and loader, regardless of which pack you select.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Self-hosting or a managed server

Self-hosting gives you direct access to the world folder, start script, configuration, whitelist and backups. It is usually the best fit when one player already has a reliable machine and is comfortable handling Java, firewalls and routine maintenance.

A managed Minecraft host can reduce operating-system and network administration, but you must verify before paying that the service supports the specific Harmony release, Fabric or Forge combination, custom server-pack upload and the memory you need. The official project confirms that multiplayer servers exist, but it does not establish compatibility, pricing or terms for any particular hosting provider.

  • Choose self-hosting when file-level control, local access and flexible configuration matter more than convenience.
  • Choose managed hosting when continuous uptime, remote administration and simplified networking justify a recurring fee.
  • In either case, keep your own downloadable backups; hosting control panels are not a substitute for an independent copy of the world.

Safe update and maintenance routine

  1. Announce a maintenance window and stop the server cleanly.
  2. Copy the complete world, configuration and current server directory to a dated backup location.
  3. Read the release and loader information for the new Harmony file before downloading anything.
  4. Install the new server pack in a separate directory instead of overwriting the working installation.
  5. Update every player’s launcher profile to the same release and loader.
  6. Start the new server with a copy of the world and test login, quests, inventories, dimensions and team play.
  7. Only switch the public server after the test succeeds; retain the previous directory for rollback.

Because the latest listed main Harmony file is dated December 10, 2021, treat the displayed release as a historical 1.16.5 pack rather than assuming that a newer Minecraft version or loader build is supported. A newer launcher, Java installation or unrelated mod does not automatically make the pack compatible.

Final setup checklist

  • The server pack came from the official CurseForge files page, not the GitHub build.
  • The extracted directory contains the supplied launcher, libraries, server.jar, configuration, mods, EULA file and start script.
  • The server uses a compatible 64-bit Java runtime.
  • The EULA has been accepted in the supplied eula.txt before players connect.
  • Memory is set in the launch script, starting at the project’s recommended minimum of 2 GB and adjusted only when the host has capacity.
  • Every client uses the same Harmony release, Minecraft version and loader as the server.
  • The whitelist, permissions, backups and network rules have been tested.
  • A clean test player can join, complete a basic quest action and reconnect after a restart.

Once those checks pass, Harmony is ready for a cooperative world built around exploration, Age of Exile character development, loot and defendable bases without requiring players to assemble Fabric or the mod list by hand.
