The reliable way to set up a racing wheel for Forza Horizon 6 is to confirm the exact model and platform first, update its firmware and drivers, connect the wheelbase directly, then create and test a custom wheel profile before changing force-feedback settings. Xbox and PC compatibility are not interchangeable for every wheel, and a wheel that turns the car may still be assigned incorrectly for force feedback.
Forza Horizon 6 launches on Xbox Series X|S and PC on May 19, 2026; Premium Edition early access begins May 15. Playground Games says a PlayStation 5 version is planned later in 2026, but the supported-wheel information below applies to the Xbox and PC launch platforms.

Check compatibility before you plug anything in
Use the current supported-wheels table from Forza Support as the deciding authority for your model. The Xbox and PC versions of many wheel families are separate products, so a model that works on PC is not automatically licensed for Xbox. Check the label on the wheelbase, the exact model number and the platform designation on the box or manufacturer account.
| Wheel family listed by Forza Support | Platform information in the support article | Required software or qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Logitech G923 | Xbox and PC | Install the current Logitech G Hub before launching the game. |
| Logitech G920 Driving Force | Xbox and PC | Install the current Logitech G Hub; Xbox owners may need a PC or laptop to perform the update. |
| Logitech G29 | PC | Install the current Logitech G Hub. The G29 is not listed as an Xbox model in the cited table. |
| Thrustmaster T248 | Xbox and PC | For Xbox, Thrustmaster recommends reducing Wheel Damper Scale in the game’s Advanced Controls. |
| Thrustmaster TS-XW | Xbox and PC | Confirm the exact firmware and platform variant before connecting. |
| Thrustmaster TMX | Xbox and PC | For Xbox, Thrustmaster recommends reducing Wheel Damper Scale in Advanced Controls. |
| Thrustmaster T150 | Xbox and PC | Confirm the exact firmware and platform variant before connecting. |
| Thrustmaster TX | Xbox and PC | Confirm the exact firmware and platform variant before connecting. |
The same Forza Support table also includes selected Fanatec, MOZA, Nacon, Turtle Beach and HORI models. Asterisks identify models with partial support or support expected in an update, so do not treat a family name as blanket approval. Check the individual row for your model and platform immediately before setup.

What to compare after compatibility is confirmed
Compatibility comes before price or hardware features. Once your model is listed, compare the things that affect your setup:
- Platform certification: Xbox, PC or both, exactly as listed for that model.
- Support completeness: full support versus a partial or update-dependent entry.
- Force-feedback design and torque: direct-drive, belt or gear mechanisms and their torque figures are manufacturer specifications; the Forza compatibility article does not establish those values.
- Pedals and accessories: check what is included and whether a separate shifter or handbrake is needed. The support table does not state bundle contents.
- Firmware workflow: determine whether updates require a Windows PC, a manufacturer utility or a platform-specific switch.
Do not infer Xbox support from a visually similar PlayStation or PC version. Forza Support specifically warns that platform versions are separate in many product lines.
Update firmware and drivers first
Forza Support’s May 19, 2026 guidance says: “Before you play Forza Horizon 6, ensure you have the latest drivers and firmware for your wheel.” This step fixes many detection and force-feedback problems before they reach the game.

- Install the wheel manufacturer’s current control application and driver package on a PC. Logitech G29 and G920 users should install the latest Logitech G Hub.
- Connect the wheelbase as the manufacturer’s updater specifies and apply every available firmware update for the base, pedals and any attached accessories.
- Restart the PC after the update, then power-cycle the wheelbase. Allow its startup calibration to finish without touching the rim.
- If you play on Xbox, connect the wheel to a PC or laptop for the update when the manufacturer utility requires Windows. Move the updated wheel back to the Xbox only after the utility reports completion.
- Record the platform mode or switch position required by your model. A base in PC mode may be invisible to an Xbox, while an Xbox-certified base may need a console-specific mode.
Close the manufacturer’s utility before launching the game if it captures the wheel exclusively. If the utility shows movement but the game does not, continue with the USB and profile checks below rather than repeatedly reinstalling drivers.

Connect the hardware in the right order
- Shut down the game. On PC, close other driving games, remapping tools and controller utilities that could claim the device.
- Connect the wheelbase directly to a USB port on the PC or console. Avoid a USB hub; direct connection is the specific recommendation in Forza Support’s force-feedback troubleshooting guidance.
- Connect the pedals and shifter to the ports required by the wheelbase or to separate USB ports according to the manufacturer’s design.
- Turn on the wheelbase and wait for its self-calibration. Keep the rim centered while it calibrates.
- Disconnect competing controllers temporarily. With multiple USB devices attached, Forza sends force feedback to the device registered as Device 1.
- Launch Forza Horizon 6 only after the operating system or console recognizes the wheel. If you need a controller for menus, connect it after the wheel has been assigned and tested.
Why Device 1 matters
A wheel can provide steering input while receiving no force feedback if another controller, pedal set or shifter is registered first. If the game identifies the wrong device as Device 1, unplug the competing USB devices, restart the game and test again. Reconnect accessories one at a time after force feedback works.
Create and test a custom wheel profile
Separate USB pedals or shifters may not map automatically. Build a custom profile before tuning strength or rotation.
- Open the game’s Settings.
- Choose Advanced Controls.
- Open Wheel and select Custom Profile.
- Assign steering, throttle, brake and clutch one at a time. Turn the wheel through its full range and press each pedal from zero to full travel.
- Assign shifter positions, handbrake and any buttons you intend to use. Leave unused controls unassigned rather than duplicating a critical input.
- Save the profile with a clear name such as “Xbox T248” or “PC G29.”
- Drive a short test in a low-powered car. Confirm that the wheel centers, the steering direction is correct, the pedals reach 0 and 100 percent and every button performs the intended action.
If the game does not show movement during assignment, return to the operating-system or manufacturer utility and confirm that the axis is visible there. If it is visible outside the game but not in the profile, disconnect other controllers and repeat the Device 1 check.
Choose Normal or Simulation steering
Forza Support describes Normal steering as the more stable option. Simulation turns off the layered steering systems that assist control. The game’s input layers are disabled whenever a wheel is used, so the choice changes the steering behavior you feel rather than adding controller-style assistance.

- TRUEFORCE: Next-gen TRUEFORCE technology connects to game engines for high-definition feedback; experience the ultimate driving experience with processing at 4000 times per second
- Programmable dual clutch: Get off the starting line cleaner and faster; a programmable dual clutch simulates real race car launch assist right from the controller, when playing supported games
- Control your game: Fine-tune your speed with a built-in LED RPM indicator; integrated Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One or PC game controls, a 24-point selector and progressive brake spring keep steering under control
- Premium Racing Design: Refreshed Logitech G gear design includes premium materials like a hand-stitched black leather wheel cover and polished metal pedals; experience the pleasure of driving at home
- On-wheel game controls: Take charge of wheel sensitivity, force feedback levels and simulated steering; Logitech G Hub Gaming software enable button customization right from the controller
- Start with Normal if you are learning the wheel, drive mixed road and off-road events or want a calmer response while checking calibration.
- Try Simulation if you want the game to expose more of the wheel’s direct steering behavior and are comfortable correcting slides yourself.
Make this choice before changing sensitivity. Switching modes while also changing several sliders makes it difficult to identify which adjustment caused a new behavior.
Set the important wheel controls one at a time
Forza Support recommends starting with default settings in both the game and the wheel software, including overall force-feedback gain and rotation angle. Change one control, drive the same test section, and keep or undo that change before touching another.
Steering Axis Deadzone Inside
This creates a dead area around the center of the wheel. Leave it at zero in a healthy wheel. Add a small deadzone only when the car will not travel straight with the rim physically centered, because a larger value removes useful on-center detail.

Normally, a corner should produce resistance that opposes the turn. Enable Invert Force Feedback only when the wheel pulls in the direction of the turn instead of resisting it. Test at low speed; do not compensate for a mechanically miscentered wheel by inverting the forces.

Force Feedback Scale
This controls overall wheel strength. Increase it gradually if the rim feels weak. Excessive scale can saturate or clip forces, turning several different impacts into the same heavy signal and removing detail. A lower, clearer signal is preferable to a constantly locked-up wheel.
Center Spring Scale
Center Spring Scale adds dynamic centering. Too much spring can mask the tire-aligning torque that tells you when the front tires are losing grip. Keep the default initially and add only enough centering to solve a specific stability problem.
Wheel Damper Scale
Damper adds resistance to movement. It can calm a light or oscillating wheel, but excessive damping overpowers slip information and makes drifting harder. This is the control Thrustmaster specifically calls out for Xbox users of the TMX, T128 and T248: open Settings > Advanced Controls and reduce Wheel Damper Scale to improve Xbox force feedback.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesSteering Sensitivity and rotation
Steering Sensitivity changes how hardware rotation maps to the car’s steering lock. Changing both the driver’s rotation angle and in-game sensitivity at the same time can create erratic steering. Set the wheel-software rotation first, leave sensitivity at its default, then make small sensitivity changes only if the car responds too slowly or too sharply.
Best Value
- The most popular racing wheel on Forza.
- Easy to use: official plug-and-play Xbox racing wheel with USB recognition.
- Works on Xbox Series X/S & XBOX One
- Comprehensive controls for all driving actions, with 9 action buttons, 1 Manettino dial, 1 D-pad, 1 Xbox Guide button and 1 pairing detection LED for Kinect.
- Wheel is 11 inches / 28 cm in diameter — a 7:10 scale replica of the wheel on the real Ferrari 458 Spider sports car.
Published starting points for Fanatec wheels
Fanatec’s manufacturer guide, updated May 15, 2026, publishes separate PC and Xbox starting values. They are baselines, not universal targets for every wheel or car.
| Setting | Fanatec PC baseline | Fanatec Xbox baseline |
|---|---|---|
| Steering | Simulation | Simulation |
| Invert Force Feedback | Off | Off |
| Wheel Damper Scale | 0.2 | 0.2 |
| Force Feedback Scale | Use the game’s starting value and tune for the wheel | 1.5 |
| Steering Rotation | Use the wheel’s starting value | 1440 |
Apply the values only after the wheel is detected and the profile passes the pedal and steering test. If the rim clips, feels artificially heavy or oscillates, reduce the relevant control rather than assuming the published baseline must be retained.
Platform-specific setup notes
Xbox Series X|S
- Verify that the exact wheel is listed for Xbox, not merely for PC.
- Use a PC or laptop for firmware updates when required by the manufacturer’s utility.
- Connect the base directly to the console and remove other USB controllers during the first force-feedback test.
- For the Thrustmaster TMX, T128 and T248, begin by reducing Wheel Damper Scale as directed by Thrustmaster’s Xbox guidance.
- Fanatec’s Xbox baseline uses Simulation steering, Invert Force Feedback Off, Wheel Damper Scale 0.2, Force Feedback Scale 1.5 and Steering Rotation 1440.
PC
- Install current drivers and firmware before starting the game.
- Confirm the wheel is visible in the manufacturer’s software, then close software that might hold exclusive control.
- Use a direct USB connection and remove competing devices while establishing Device 1.
- Logitech G29 is listed for PC; Logitech G923 and G920 are listed for both PC and Xbox. Do not substitute one model’s platform assumption for another.
- Fanatec’s PC baseline uses Simulation steering, Invert Force Feedback Off and Wheel Damper Scale 0.2.
Fix the most common failures
The wheel is not detected
- Exit the game and reconnect the base directly, bypassing the USB hub.
- Check the platform mode and confirm that the model appears in the official supported table.
- Open the manufacturer’s utility and verify that steering and pedals move there.
- Update firmware and drivers, restart the system and launch the game again.
- If several controllers are connected, unplug them and establish the wheel as Device 1.
Steering works but there is no force feedback
- Disconnect separate pedals, shifters and controllers temporarily.
- Reconnect only the wheelbase directly and restart the game.
- Check that the wheel is Device 1.
- In Settings > Advanced Controls > Wheel > Custom Profile, verify that steering is assigned to the wheel axis.
- Test Invert Force Feedback. If the wheel pulls with the corner, invert the setting; if it resists correctly, leave it off.
- Check firmware again. A wheel that lost force feedback immediately after a platform update may need the manufacturer’s current firmware rather than a game-side slider change.
The wheel pulls the wrong way
Use Invert Force Feedback only when the force direction is reversed. If the rim is physically off-center, recalibrate it in the manufacturer’s software first. Do not add a large steering deadzone to hide a calibration error.
The car will not drive straight
Center the rim mechanically, verify the steering axis reaches zero at center, then add only a small Steering Axis Deadzone Inside if necessary. Check that you have not changed both driver rotation and in-game sensitivity, which can produce an unpredictable center and response.
Pedals or shifter do not respond
Reopen the custom profile and assign each separate USB device manually. Test the full travel of every pedal. If another controller is attached, remove it while assigning inputs so the intended wheel remains Device 1.
The wheel feels too heavy or has no detail
Reduce Force Feedback Scale if impacts feel identical or the rim stays at maximum force. Reduce Center Spring Scale if centering masks tire feedback. Reduce Wheel Damper Scale if the wheel resists quick corrections or drifting becomes difficult. Change only one slider, then repeat the same road test.
A repeatable calibration routine
- Start with default wheel-software gain, rotation and game values.
- Test steering center and pedal endpoints in the custom profile.
- Choose Normal or Simulation steering.
- Set wheel-software rotation, then test before touching Steering Sensitivity.
- Correct force direction with Invert Force Feedback if required.
- Adjust Force Feedback Scale until strong impacts remain detailed rather than clipped.
- Adjust Center Spring Scale and Wheel Damper Scale only for a clear symptom.
- Save the profile and test it in more than one car, because a setting that feels comfortable in a high-downforce car may feel excessive in a light road car.
What the launch context means for wheel owners
Playground Games announced more than 550 cars at launch and up to 540 degrees of updated steering animation. Those game features do not replace hardware compatibility checks: the wheel must still be supported for the platform, updated and assigned correctly. The launch platforms are Xbox Series X|S and PC on May 19, 2026, with Premium Edition early access on May 15; a PlayStation 5 release is scheduled later in 2026, so its final wheel list should be checked separately when that version is available.
