What you are installing

The CurseForge project lists Minecraft 1.12.2 as its game version and identifies All the Mods 3 Lite-v3.2.0 as the latest listed main release. Its corresponding Minecraft 1.12 server pack is named ATM3L-SERVER-FULL-3.2.0.

The project is archived rather than actively updated: CurseForge lists June 18, 2022 as the last update date. The page records 676,665 downloads, but popularity does not remove the need to match the exact files. A client on one ATM3 Lite release cannot reliably join a server running another release, even when both are labeled “ATM3 Lite.”
This guide covers a server on your own Windows or Linux computer and a managed host. The same principles apply to both: use the pack’s server files, select Java for Minecraft 1.12.2, leave normal network bindings alone, and make the server reachable only through the address appropriate for your players.

Check the requirements before downloading

On Windows, use a folder outside OneDrive or another cloud-synchronized directory. Synchronization can lock files while Forge or the server is writing them. On Linux, place the files somewhere the account running the server can read, write, and execute.
Download the official ATM3 Lite server pack
- Open the All the Mods 3 Lite project on CurseForge and choose Files.
- Select the Minecraft 1.12.2 release that matches the clients. For the latest listed release, choose
All the Mods 3 Lite-v3.2.0. - Open Additional Files for that release.
- Download
ATM3L-SERVER-FULL-3.2.0, the Minecraft 1.12 server pack. - Keep the downloaded archive unchanged until it is extracted. Do not build a server by downloading a plain Minecraft server JAR and then copying random client files into it.
The server archive contains the pack-specific Forge setup, scripts, libraries, and configuration expected by ATM3 Lite. A normal client installation is not a substitute for it. If the file listing offers a different release in the future, select the server pack whose version exactly matches the clients you intend to run.

Windows
Create a short, ordinary path such as C:MinecraftATM3LiteServer. Extract the complete archive there rather than running files from inside the ZIP viewer. Confirm that the folder contains the supplied Windows start script, normally named startserver.bat, along with the other server files.
Do not put the directory under OneDrive or a similar synchronizing service. Avoid a location where Windows security software or a non-administrator account prevents the script from creating files. If extraction produces another nested folder, open it and use the directory that actually contains startserver.bat.
Linux
Extract the archive into a directory owned by the account that will run the server. The supplied Linux launcher is normally startserver.sh. Give that script execute permission if the archive did not preserve it, then run it from the server directory:
./startserver.sh
Running from the correct directory matters because relative paths in the installer and configuration files assume the server’s own folder. Keep the path writable; the first run downloads or generates files and will not complete in a read-only directory.

Use the Java runtime intended for Minecraft 1.12.2
ATM3 Lite targets Minecraft 1.12.2, so select a Java release that works with that version instead of assuming that the newest Java installation is suitable. The AllTheMods server guide specifically warns that java -version can report a different installation from the one you meant to use.
If the computer has more than one Java installation, identify the full path to the desired executable and place that path in the supplied start script or JVM argument file. On Windows, this means using the intended java.exe; on Linux, use the intended Java binary rather than whichever executable happens to be first on PATH. Do not delete other Java versions merely to make this pack work.
The pack’s scripts are the starting point for Java selection. If a host panel provides a Java-version selector, choose the option documented for Minecraft 1.12.2 and Forge, then verify that the panel is actually launching the selected runtime. A server that immediately exits, reports class-version errors, or fails before Forge loads is often using an incompatible Java executable.
Run the first launch and accept the EULA
- Open a terminal or command prompt in the extracted server directory.
- On Windows, run
startserver.bat. On Linux, run./startserver.sh. - Allow the installer and Forge setup to finish. Do not interrupt the first run while it is creating or retrieving its files; an interrupted installation can require starting over.
- When the process stops and creates
eula.txt, open that file in a text editor. - Change
eula=falsetoeula=true, save the file, and close the editor. - Run the same start script again.
The EULA stop is expected on a first launch. It is not evidence that the pack is broken. The second launch should continue into Forge and the mod loading sequence. Wait for the console message indicating that the dedicated server has loaded before attempting to join.

Allocate memory without starving the computer
The AllTheMods guide uses at least 6 GB of allocated RAM as its general baseline for most ATM packs. Treat that as a starting point for ATM3 Lite, not as a laboratory-tested minimum for this particular archived pack. The machine must retain additional memory for the operating system, Java overhead, and any game client running on the same computer.

Find the server’s JVM argument file or the memory options in its supplied script. The two settings you will normally see are:
-Xms: the amount of heap Java reserves when the server starts.-Xmx: the maximum heap the server may use.
For a computer with adequate headroom, a simple baseline is -Xms6G -Xmx6G. On a shared machine, set a lower startup value while retaining a maximum appropriate to the available memory; never allocate nearly all physical RAM to Java. The correct value depends on player count, world activity, view distances, other applications, and the host’s actual limit.
If the console reports an out-of-memory failure or the operating system begins swapping, first confirm that the intended -Xmx value is being used and that the host has enough physical RAM. Increasing a number in a script cannot create memory the machine or hosting plan does not provide.
Leave the base configuration alone until the server loads
Start the unmodified pack once before changing gameplay settings. After the dedicated server has loaded successfully, stop it and edit server.properties, pack configuration files, or world/server configuration files as needed.
For a new world, let the server create its default world directory. To import an existing world, upload or copy that world folder into the server directory and name it world. Preserve the world’s complete folder structure; placing region files in the wrong level will make the server generate a different world instead.
Make configuration changes with the server stopped whenever possible. Keep a copy of the original file before editing so you can restore a known-good configuration if a typo prevents startup.

Do not normally edit server-ip or server-port
Leave server-ip blank in normal installations. The AllTheMods guide warns that many tutorials incorrectly tell people to fill in this field and that unnecessary edits can prevent the server from starting. The server can listen on the computer’s available interfaces without a manually entered address.
Use the standard server port, 25565, unless you have a specific reason to change it. If you change the port, every connecting player must use the new port and any router rule must match it. A networking problem is not fixed by guessing an address in server-ip.
Connect to the server

In Minecraft Java Edition’s multiplayer screen, add a server using localhost. This avoids guessing the machine’s LAN address and works even when the computer has several network adapters.

Another computer in the home
Find the host’s private address, such as the address assigned by the home router, and enter that address in the other player’s multiplayer screen. Both computers must be on the same network, and the host’s firewall must permit the server process or port. Do not give a LAN address to someone on the public internet; it is not reachable outside your home network.
Friends outside the home
Port forwarding is the usual way to make a locally hosted dedicated server reachable from the internet. In the router, forward external TCP traffic on port 25565 to the host computer’s private IP and the same internal port. Give friends the public IPv4 address and port. Reserve the host’s private address in the router or operating system if possible so the forwarding rule does not point to a different device after a reboot.
Port forwarding exposes a service from your home connection. Use a strong operating-system account, keep the server files isolated from personal documents, and forward only the port you need. If your internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT, a router rule may not be sufficient; in that case, a managed host or another network solution is more practical.

Keep every client compatible with the server
Install the same ATM3 Lite release on every player’s client that the server uses. For this guide’s release, that means the 1.12.2 client and All the Mods 3 Lite-v3.2.0 matching ATM3L-SERVER-FULL-3.2.0.
Compatibility includes more than the visible pack name. The Minecraft version, mod loader, mod versions, and relevant configuration files must be compatible. CurseForge notes that mod loaders matter because not every mod and game version works with every loader combination.
Do not copy every file from a client’s mods folder to the server. Client-only mods are generally unnecessary on a dedicated server and can prevent it from working. Start with the supplied server pack; add a mod only when you know it is required server-side and is compatible with this exact 1.12.2 pack.
Self-hosting versus a managed host
Self-hosting avoids a recurring hosting bill and gives you direct control over files, Java, backups, and configuration. It also makes you responsible for the computer’s RAM, uptime, network exposure, operating-system updates, router access, and every startup error.
A managed host is useful when you do not want to expose a home machine or leave a computer running. AllTheMods documents uploading extracted server files through FTP or SFTP, and many panels provide one-click modpack installers. Before paying, confirm that the service supports this archived 1.12.2 pack rather than assuming a current one-click catalog includes it.

Do not choose a host solely because it advertises “modded Minecraft.” Verify the exact pack and version, Java/Forge controls, memory limits, file access, backups, location, pricing, and any affiliate or renewal terms before ordering.
Troubleshoot the common failures
The script exits immediately or reports a Java error
- Check which executable the script calls rather than relying on the result of
java -versionin a separate terminal. - Select a Java runtime compatible with Minecraft 1.12.2 and point the script or host panel to it explicitly.
- Run the script from the extracted server directory so its relative paths resolve correctly.
The server starts as vanilla or never loads the mods
- Replace the files with a clean extraction of
ATM3L-SERVER-FULL-3.2.0. - Use
startserver.bator./startserver.sh, not a plain Minecraft server JAR. - Remove client-only additions from the server’s
modsfolder. - Check the console for the Forge loading completion message before testing a client connection.
The client is rejected for a mod or version mismatch
- Confirm that both sides use Minecraft 1.12.2.
- Confirm the exact ATM3 Lite release, not merely the same pack family.
- Use the matching server pack and avoid manually replacing its mod files with files from another client or release.
The server will not start after network edits
Restore a blank server-ip and the intended server-port. The normal configuration does not require the computer’s LAN or public address in server-ip. Test locally with localhost before investigating the router.
Players outside the home cannot connect
- Confirm the server is fully loaded and still running.
- Confirm the router forwards the chosen external port to the host computer’s current private IP.
- Confirm the operating-system firewall allows the port or Java process.
- Give remote players the public IPv4 address, not the private LAN address.
- If the internet connection uses carrier-grade NAT, ask the provider whether inbound forwarding is possible; otherwise use a managed host.
The server runs out of memory or lags badly
- Verify that the configured
-Xmxvalue is actually passed to Java. - Compare the allocation with the machine or hosting plan’s real RAM limit.
- Keep at least the broad AllTheMods baseline of 6 GB allocated for most ATM packs, while leaving headroom for the operating system and other programs.
- Reduce simultaneous workload or move the server to a machine or plan with more capacity if the heap is correctly configured but still exhausted.
Back up and operate the server safely
The world, configuration, and mod state live in the server directory. Before changing mods, importing a world, or editing major settings, stop the server and copy the complete world and configuration folders to another disk or host location. A backup is useful only if you can identify which pack version it belongs to and restore it without mixing files from another release.
Keep the server directory separate from personal files, restrict access to the account that runs it, and document the Java executable, memory arguments, port, and pack version. When troubleshooting, change one setting at a time and retain the last configuration that successfully reached the loaded state.
